Dal-Rihan: Iratha Reborn

Here she is, my latest Matriarch Dal-Rihan.

The build is a rather standard meteorb, with points going to cold mastery (just one in fire mastery). What makes her a bit special is the equipment. I played with Iratha's Finery on some other char for a while and decided to take a char through hell with that one. It turned out to be a solid choice, resistances at 85% is very nice to have. She had problems with her mana pool of course, usually you have stuff to increase max mana. I decided to counter that with charms and that 'Bone' armour. I never regretted to put two UMs in that thingie, the ctc bone armour is surprisingly efficient. Almost nothing could seriously harm her except some nasties later in A4 / A5 hell... but with teleport and enough potions she seldom died. I played her to relax from my more demanding HC chars, I took some risks while playing... sometimes it turned out being too much, but that's what SC is for.

She has a very good Baal map... maybe I'll switch equip to make her a Baal runner (Baal himself took about 8 Minutes... not a good value for runs ;) ).

Except for the oculus, stormchaser, aldurs, and bonehew, which were FOUND by her, i do not credit the other items listed, because they happened before the crash, and were backed up so i could twink her with MF. I only credit items into my atma stash that were found after the crash. This Character took less than A week to finish, and has had extraordinary luck in restoring my grail to it's former status. The only EU's i have found are Fleshripper and Bonehew, but the lower level stuff is filling up lost space. Seeing that i now own a fleshripper, I may start a new daggrmancer, or i may just do a Barb.

Deaths:

Two in all. First one was in the Inner Cloister to an extra strong, mighty archer pack. It was at the start of a playing session, I didn't really see them. Carelessness on my part; this was entirely avoidable. The second was a stair trap in the Throne of Destruction. Two Sand Raider packs: the first fanatic, the second extra fast and mana burn. Of course, the aura helped both packs. Hooray. A lot of teleporting within a small region (I didn't dare venture into the darkness) and quite a few visits to town were needed, but I still died once when I couldn't teleport or enter a town portal.

Close encounters:

Quite a few, actually. The idiotic ones apart, there were a few tough fights:
- High Council with Might + Fanaticism. Had to kill the minions one by one.
- Stair trapped by an fanatic mana burn doll pack in Durance 1. Lots of town visits, merc revivals, full juves, NDEs, etc. but I managed to get them before they got me. On another day, this would have been a death or three.
- CE FE cursed frenzytaur boss in the Glacial trail. Once the minions were killed, I had to use telekinesis while the merc jabbed away.

The packs of an accursed Infector and an extra fast Lister had to be broken up, but neither caused any tense moments. With the ancients, I hit the switch and teleported all the way down. On the first roll, only Talic followed me. FI and CI, no thanks. On the second roll, Korlic followed me. He was cold immune (CE stone skin). After killing him with fireball (forgot to static first), I set after the other two. Madawc was fanatic, so Talic had to be isolated (FE and something else, FI) and killed first. I had managed to keep the merc alive until now, but he didn't survive contact with the fanatic Madawc (LI and CI, CE and fanaticism). Luckily, Madawc took position behind a pillar, and I did the cheesy thing by firing fireballs at the pillar and letting the area damage kill him. Not finding out the mods before separating them was probably stupid: imagine killing two and then finding out that the last one was FI CI.

Finds:

Rockstopper was the best find. Darned useful item, although probably not very rare. Not a single elite. HF gave me a Lum and a Fal.

Verdict:

* All in all, quite safe. Going non-block turned out to be a good decision, considering I found a very good shield that I would otherwise have been unable to use, and I had good hit recovery too.
* Act 5 progress was very, very slow. It took about 20-30 town visits per area clear, mainly for merc healing/resustication/detoxication. Par for the course?
* I didn't use meteor much. Going fireball/orb would have been more effective, with firebolt to synergize fireball, saving three pre-requisite points. I used FO a lot, and could really have used a few more points in cold mastery.
* NOT happy with the merc's performance. I couldn't outfit him well. I didn't really find any good elite polearms (I wasn't really reliant on the meditation aura in Hell, and was prepared to forgo it), and had to sacrifice a high defence armour with "Godly" prefix for resists. Still, with some timely teleports, he could handle most melee creatures quite well, but had a really tough time against minotaurs, succubi and Greater Mummies, and virtually every cursed, mighty or fanatic boss. And I haven't even mentioned IM yet. All in all, I can't help but feel HF would have been a better choice.
* Looking back, this is pretty nice gear for an untwinked character

Future plans:

Could be useful for MF'ing in the act 1 areas with low life critters. The Ward gives me nice resists, so I can stick MF gear in nearly every other slot. Some more +skills would be useful

My mercenary is pretty much the reason I managed to beat him...and full rejuv potions, heh. She would kill faster with better gears but since she's untwinked...I had to do with what I had. Baal spawned me a Griswold's Heart too :D

As you can see, this time my merc's equipement is worst than mine. Hell Forge gave me Amn, Lum and Lem in Normal, Nightmare and Hell respectively. I had to reroll the Ancients a few time because Korlic almost always spawned both Cold and Fire immune. The other two were frozen orb-then-run. Baal's minions were a breeze; none of them were both cold and fire immune. Baal himself was also a breeze; my merc was leeching like there was no tommorow and I was raining meteor down on him until he died. I prefer the fire-intense Meteorb over the ice-intense one. Next build? A Javazon.

Normal went fairly well. Once I got my insight, fireball/static did all the work. Ran normal Baal until 45. By then, Frozen Orb was doing a lot of damage.
Stayed in nightmare until 76. By this point Frozen Orb was devastating. Was a lot of fun moving/teleporting around to position myself to deal the most damage. I have played strictly HC since day 1 of SP, and for the first time since then I died - got caught in a group of knights in CS trying to hurry and tele around! Whew! On SC so we're ok!

Hell was going ok. I had decent gear in Act 2 Hell but my merc still had his 150dmg insight and was pretty worthless. I had all of Tal's minus Tal Rasha's Gaurdianship.@Gynli was very generous - I found his giveaway thread and received Tal Rasha's Guardianship and monarch! This completed Tal's for me and upgraded my Lidless Wall significantly. Quickly I moved to Act 4 Hell. In quick succession I acquired more items from the Trading Forum! Once again, @Gynli to the rescue! I traded some PGems for a new base for merc, a new treachery, and a +1 Fire Skills GC. Act 4 Hell was easy and fast!

Act 5 wasn't challenging either. At this point I had great gear and my merc was nearly self-sustaining.

Everything went smooth. It was funny to see how effective static field, lower res and an enchanted Act II merc one-shots basically everything that was not cold immune. She leveled up with Nova, very funny spell to use! When merc died, it was a bit painful since we had to enchant buff him and also fade buff his trechery. Also the strength bugging of the armor can be a bit annoying, but totally worth it. The damage reduction was very useful against cold immune spear cats and other cold immune ranged attackers.

Number of deaths: 1 (nightmare Hephasto on p8, we were cursed with amp dmg and he had both might and fanatiscm...)

Well, I only have 1 sorc (CL/FO), so i needed at least one for more effective magic finding. My initial plan was play this with Tal Rasha's set, but I don't have find amulet yet and got frustrated, anyway I have good gear already. I have found Ber from Lower Kurast before i posted here and I don't have screenshot for that, first when I saw it I grabbed it very fast and got town immediately.

I played most time p8, even most hell, some places like chaos sanctuary were played p1, just because they were very frustrating. Normal went fast as soon as I hit level 27, and merc got insight. Nightmare this was propably my fastest character, mostly teleporting and killing monster only for exp. Hell was also quite easy: there weren't many cold/fire-immunities, those I used telekinesis and merc killed them.

Overall great character, superb killing speed and fast as hell. My res were pretty low, but it didn't matter that much. I wanted to use spirit shield all time, that's why I have 156 strength, could have been much lower, but I don't think it mattered much. I also have Nightwings, but I think I gained more from Shako. My cold mastery was left for 1, if/when I will found better items, it will get higher level.

Future plans

Gonna play this character a lot. She will be my main character in Ancients Tunnels, Lower Kurast, Pindleskin and run little bit of Baal, till she is level 90 or so. Don't know which my next character will be, this was my 8th character to finish game. Now I have runes for Vex and could make Death, so propably frenzy barb.

Introduction and history

I have played Diablo 2 since its release, but always at such a casual level that I never even made it through Hell. Until now.

Meet TheMadGeniusII, the Frozen Orb/Fireball Sorceress, also known as the Orbitaller.

It all began at a modest Lan party at a friend's home way back in 2004. My previous project, an artillery necro (Poison Nova, Bone Spirit, Fire Golem and Curses) had become useless with the arrival of 1.10, and I was looking for a build that could brave the dangers of Hell alone without the need for exceptional gear. Combined with the fact that I always enjoy playing teleporting nukers, the Meteorb build was an obvious choice, and the LAN an excellent opportunity to start her. Even though we only got only halfway into Act 2 Normal, I held on to the character through the years. After my laptop collapsed I was set back a couple of levels but it didn't deter me, for severall incarnations of this character survived in my Gmail inbox. So I fired up the most recent backup and got going again.

When 1.13 arrived I respecced to FO/FB, for I did not like Meteor. I also reassigned most stat points to vitality, for I was not going to achieve max block with my shield and my defense against physical attackers consists of outmaneuvering them or letting my merc tank them.

Through the years I progressed slowly, finishing a small part of the game every now and then. Now that I have made it through Hell once, I am determined to do so again at a quicker pace.

I played mostly untwinked because I had nothing to twink with to begin with, except for a Magefist I found back in the 1.09 days and a small charm of +5 resist all.

Apparently I have a knack for being lucky in terms of finding gear, as I found a Wizardspike somewhere on the plains of Hell Act I, and a Shaftstop in the Durance of Hate. When playing through Act V Hell I decided to take a shot at gambling, and on my first attempt I got the Coronet with +2 Sorc skills and +19 resist all I am currently wearing. Holy smoke.

Thoughts
Even though it took place nearly six years ago, I still recall the battle with Duriel in Normal well. And by the Ancients, it is the worst boss battle ever conceived for a lone Sorceress. The mercenary dies within seconds, leaving me completely vulnerable. With static field, fireballs and running around with my level 1 Blaze I eventually managed to take the fat bastard down.

The rest of Normal and Nightmare went quite well. Once I entered Hell I returend to the Nightmare WSK to farm a bit. Baal was kind enough to drop Sazabi's Mental Sheath, with +1 Skills, 16% Fire res and 15% Lightning res.

The Durance of Hate on Hell was scary, with Stygian Dolls lurking in shadowy corners.

The Ancients took quite a few potions but they were not too difficult to deal with.

Perhaps I got lucky with their mods, but the Minions of Destruction were the easiest of the packs of minions Baal threw at me except for the pack of Fallen. Whereas my merc died quite a number of times when I wasn't fast enough to teleport him to safety against regular monsters (looking at you Frenzytaurs and Gloams), I was surprised how well he could tank the Minions. I was like "what are you, Minions of Destruction or a bunch of overgrown Fallen Ones?"

As most of you know, Baal is quite easy compared to many parts of Hell. No problems there. No noteworthy drops except a rare +2 to Druid skills cudgel.

The future
I will be using this character to do some MFing to gather resources for future projects and crafting.

I think taking this Sorceress through Hell has awoken a thirst for more Patriarchs and Matriarchs. It is very likely they will take much less time than six years to complete their journey 😁

This character is fun to play and versatile. Great MF against Mephy and alot of others, sorry no pit (too many immunes for speed). Funny thing is she kicks against Baal as well which I didn't think would happen. Here's how. The Merc's Woestave slows target 50%, and when he's frozen from Holy Freeze and my FO, he doesn't move, and he doesn't attack! That means teleport next to him, feed merc 1 potion, bang he's stunned, static and then meteor/FB/FO away until dead. The CB on the merc is just gravy. It takes less than a minute, almost faster than my CB necro. The Woestave unfortunately doesn't work against Meph or Diablo (his little fire wave destroys my Merc, although I do have Steelshade so maybe with that equipped he could tank Diablo, + Guardian Angel or something of the sort). If I was careful this character could Guardian at HC, but I'm not so I don't dare. Next project is a hammerdin then back to my favorite build ever. PS/TS/Dtail Assassin.

My 2nd untwinked Sorceress Matriarch. I had wanted to make a Hydra Sorc for a long time. I first thought of a Hydra/Lightning/FOrb tri-elementalist, but that turned out to be too weak for untwinked play. I respeced to Hydra/Lightning, but was unable to beat Act V NM at /p8 with this combo (Shamen were resurrecting minions faster than I could kill them, and I had no source of cold damage). So I burned another respec to Hydra/FOrb, unfortunately without points in Static Field, Teleport, and Telekinesis. Frustration kicked in and I parked her in Act V NM for a few months. In the end, I just finished NM at /p1 and did a few baal runs so I had enough skill points to invest in SF/TP/TK before starting Hell.

Hydra/FOrb is a reasonably powerful combination, though combined CI/FI monster spawns are a real pain due to the casting delay bug / design failure. Obviously, Hydra excels in situations like this and this, but the Sorceress simply lacks the crowd control to cope with Hydra's long warm-up time and relatively slow killing speed (compared to her usual powerhouse skills) in situations like this. (The bat boss was ES / cursed, so it was just GTFO).

All in all, Hydra is definitely viable untwinked but it requires some dedication to get the build to work smoothly in the later parts of Hell, even with fairly good gear and at /p1.

MVP goes to Treachery. It's nothing short of a full titanium plate mail armour. Also, Telekinesis is awesome, particularly against CI/FI bosses (it appears that this is by far the most common double immunity for Unique monsters). Take this! And this! And this!

Notable Finds: Aldur's Deception (grailer), Burning Grand Charm, perfect resist The Ward, and a 4os Cryptic Axe turned into Insight.

Total S/Us found: 160+

Highest rune found: Lem (in one of the Act V pits in Hell).

Hellforge: Io and Hel. The first 1.13 character of mine that was not able to make Smoke before Act V Hell (and that would have required cubing the three Io runes that she found, including the NM Hellforge one).

...and here's the boring part where I talk about everything. :laugh: I wanted a fairly cheap sorc, skill-wise, where I didn't ever feel I was behind the curve, or missing out on synergies or anything of that sort. Glacial Spike stayed glued to the left mouse button from the moment I learned it, and was my "primary attack" (not my primary killer, but I fired 'em out at a ridiculous pace).

I really wasn't sure what would happen between blizzard and firewall - I knew blizzard was a bit easier to get around with, and that firewall was fairly difficult to manipulate, but the damage on FW soared pretty quickly (endgame equipment had FW doing 6 dam/sec for well over 3 seconds). I ended up using blizzard for most little running-types (fallen, flayers, leapers, etc), and firewall whenever something would stand still or needed to take big damage and not wait for Blizzard to randomly spawn a hit - ALL bosses, archers and vampire-types.

I was lucky to get some great stuff early - WarTravs, Guillaume's, and a few other short-term-use items were all found in mid-NM, way before I had to worry about anything. That, more than anything else, got me jazzed about SugarCookie's chances of going all the way.

She was stuck in A2 hell for quite a while with immunity problems, until Moser's dropped in the Far Oasis. Jammed a couple diamonds in, and suddenly I wasn't worried about anything.

A3 Hell was seriously SugarCookie's biiyatch (Trav was a bit slow, but everything else was CAKE). I P8ed Lower Kurast for a couple days building up stuff. That's where the Hexfire came from, and Naj's Plate, and the abundance of gold that turned into gambling/cubing that eventually yielded the +3 fire-skills amulet.

Funny story about Static Field...I completely forgot about it until lev70ish, at which point I had already established my "playing pattern". I broke it out once against something, it didn't have any effect, and I discarded it permanently.

Hell Meph was moatified, Hell Diablo was BlizzWalled depending if he was running at me or trying to spit something at me (gave up on merc after three resurrections). Baal's minions were quickly dispatched; Achmel got me poisoned which required a trip to town, but there were no CIs so I was getting a LOT of good work out of Glacial Spike. The third roll of Hell Ancients was tolerable; divide and conquer made them fairly easy (gogo firewall).

Baal was ridiculously easy. The combination of Merc's HF, my Spikes, and Kelpie Snare basically locked him in place for ~20 seconds at a time, during which I ravaged him with a ~lev30 FireWall. He'd jump around and try to cause some problems, but we'd lock him down again. No trips back to town, maybe 5 potions used, and he was toast!

Runes were super-disappointing. I ended up getting a Ko in a recent (after-winning) Hell countess run, but otherwise she's capped at 1 Dol and a bunch of stuff below it.

So, I'm going to Pindle and Countess like crazy to pump up her gear, and then I suspect I'll be trying to run her level up as high as possible.

Deaths: 10-12. 5-6ish in A2 Hell (red immunities), two or three against gloams, one against 'sploding dolls, one against Hell Serena (sp?), and one against Pindle (fire/cold enchanted).

PS: FireWall is a FANTASTIC skill once you get used to aiming it. I'm still not great at it, but the 40+yd length at higher skill levels will easily clear a WSK hallway before you even have to look and see who's in it.

His resists were fine in Hell 75/x/75/75, but he was a bit on the low side for damage, topping out at ~650ish.

I tend to under-Vit most of my characters, and use evasive abilities instead of slugging it out. I put all the points into ENG because I kept running out of Teleport and Orb fuel.

I tended to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee, running back and forth giving myself a good axis to throw Orbs down. If Gulzar couldn't tank, I'd lead enemies to a good obstacle and run Blaze rings around it, making them follow. This was very helpful in Hell, exp running around the pools in front of The Council and against Andariel. This is also a great way to get out in front of the LI/LE bosses that killed Gulzar very quickly, as Static Field didn't work against them and even with 75% LR they did a lot of damage to my poor merc. I don't like to Teleport past problem monsters--just around them. Hence the subtitle Orb Racer: either Orb, or run like the dickens.

Notable deaths were the 4 against Baal in Hell where his mana burn just kissed me (thought I was out of range) and unfortunately left my corpse under his watchful eye. 3 failed corpse retrievals later and I grabbed my body and regrouped. Longest fights were against tri-immune OK in Hell Chaos Sanctuary (not Lord De Seis, surprisingly), Hell Baal, and a few LI/CI bosses in Act I that my hubris demanded I face down. Amazingly, the Hell Ancients were just 14 full rejuvs, no real risk for me or the merc.

I found some good items along the way. Given the MF (I leveled up to 72 in NM Ancients' Way and WSK with Gulzar wearing 4x PTopaz Gothic + 3x PTopaz Great Helm) of ~450, I was happy with Kuko, Goldstrike Arch, Trang-Oul's Wing, Tal Rasha's Horadric Crest, the Scintillating GC, and some great +2 All Skill/+3 skill weapons. A 4os Shadow Plate and 2os Berserker Axe dropped, so I'll likely save them for Stone and Strength in 1.11.

Joan will likely run LK (good map with 5 racks and 3 chests) and Nithli's temple (4 racks that have already dropped socketed Berserker and Cryptic Axes), maybe cows for experience to make that long, slow climb to 91 for great crafting. Still have to use those imbues and last socket quest...

Props-Yuiman for the encouragement and undying support of 1.07, Repusz for the good guide that made me want to stay with 1.07, Disco-Neck Ted, AlienBoyz, DodgyDave, and all the other regular contributors to 1.07 wisdom. Big props to Kelpie Snare: when a WSK Night Lord just stands their stupidly as my merc pokes him, I know I chose the right stick.

Slops-me for still not putting more points into vitality, Baal for being a OHK (from the edge of the screen, no less) jerk, Hell Ancients for not even killing my merc, Hell Duriel for dropping 7k gold and some bolts.

She's a Orb-it-aller if my names are right. Frozen Orb and Fire Ball. I don't like Meteor. So no points there.

I can't quite remember how she got through the game, as I started her a LONG time ago, went to D3, came back a couple months ago, played on and off for a while, killed most of my HC characters, before coming back to take her onwards.

She's totally self-found, untwinked as it is. I do remember finding a Shako very early in act 1 hell, to my great delight at the time. I was also endlessly scared my etheral lidless wall would break (got it in nightmare as far as I recall), but that wasn't to be, even after questing all the way to Baal. I also searched high and low for a monarch. White + Larzuk, or 4 sockets. Well I finally did find one. By the way, that's Baal's fourth wave. So I didn't bother to log off, mule the runes on, and start it all over to get my Spirit. Will have to be later on in her life. :p

The Ancients were interesting to deal with. None were fire-cold immune, and I didn't see any auras, so I went berzerk on the teleports to separate them. I manage to get Talic whirling along the south-west side of the map, with his bro's somewhere else. So I went tele-tele up left, Orb down right, tele-tele down right, Orb Up left, and on and on and on. Until he dropped. My endless mana supply survived, thanks to my endless Teleports keeping him out of whirl range. Once I got hit, mashed the rejuv, and survived to teleport out. Next came Khorlic, and much in the same place. Except the routine this time was tele-tele up left, FB-FB-FB-FB-FB... you get the idea. And lastly, Madawac ran after me for a long time. He was extra fast, cursed, and lightning enchanted. So I had bolts all over the place, and kept teleporting all over the place, with the occasional orb flying in his general direction. Another rejuv went down when he got a shot off. But as he spent so much time running around instead of aiming, it wasn't too hard.

I re-rolled my map a couple times last week, and got something I don't want to ever lose. A nice LK map. Five teleports from the waypoint to the first house, then three left, two up, three left, to get to the three next houses, that just so happen to be next to each other. That's the main reason for the Harmony bow on switch, and Natalya's boots. Makes those runs fast. On got a Gul at the moment. And a boat load of other goodies, skillers, gems, mid-range runes. The future is bright for Seleia.

Other things of note :
Gambling is fun. Don't know if it's really any good. For some hybrid perhaps.
HellForge... could be worse.

I have a blizzard sorc somewhere in nightmare running meph there, in hopes of a skins of the vipermagi. And other goodies for future chars. And to change things up as well. I don't know exactly where Seleia will be orbing around. I'm definitely going to be taking here around Lower Kurast a lot. And then try out some hell meph, and see how that goes...

Normal started out slow until I could use a 'Leaf' staff, at which point Fireball basically demolished everything. Later switched to a Razorswitch until I could put on my Occy. Went with the Act 5 merc since I had never used one before. Although I would have preferred it if he was a little less eager to get himself killed at times, he was able to hold his own rather well and his Stun skill is sweet.

Nightmare was pretty smooth going, except for the Ancients, which took me a lot of tries (and a couple of deaths <_<) to pass. Hellforge dropped either Ko or Lum, I believe.

Hell was done mostly on either /p1 or /p3, depending on the area. Pit runs pushed me to level 79, then I blazed through and farmed Meph until 81 (got my first Vipermagi that way, so the 'Stealth' came off and my resists became decent >_>). Diablo was easy, in no small part due to my LR wand IMO (hugs the Wand of Champ/Unique Slaying >_>). Farmed Pindleskin to 83 before finally ripping through the rest of Act 5. Hell Ancients were about a 10 minute fight because my merc died pretty much right off the bat, so it came down to me dropping blizzards and teleporting around until 2 of them were dead, then switching to fireball for the damned cold immune leaper. Never really came close to dying there, but it was slower than I would have liked. Only difficulty after that was a Extra Strong/Cold Enchanted/Spectral Hit Lister (FI/CI), who I had to park after he kept 2HKOing my merc. Ip fell to Baal, Baal fell to LR+Bliz/Fireball. He gave a decent drop this time:

Sadly, the Hone Sundan was not ethereal...again -_-. Other notable finds were a Pul from Hell HF and a Stormspike from Pindle (not that it looks like an impressive weapon, but it is my first one >_>).

Fairly fun overall. I was a little worried about how lightly synergized my attacks were, but the combination of a powerful timered skill and a spammable skill ripped through anything not immune to both. Anyway, I'll probably use her for Ancient Tunnels and Baaling, though I honestly do not expect to do too much of either any time in the near future.

Next on the horizon: probably matting my MA/FA/Strafe zon, or one of my many druids >_>.

Normal and nightmare were a breeze, normal was made short work of with the runeword Leaf using fireball, and nightmare and early hell were gone through with Frozen Orb. Once I started getting high enough to have decent fire damage I began spamming fireballs and the odd meteor around acts 3-5. Difficult areas were the Chaos Sanctuary (all of act 4, actually), and while Act 5 was mostly teleported through in my rush to become a Matriarch, Ancients were a pain. After about 20 deaths to them I got a very good roll and they went down finally without incident.

Probably my first good unique of the game. I had a smiter in Act 1 which was going very slowly, this new find has definitely re-aroused interest in him though. Another find was a 4 socket Hellforge plate with 573 defense. I'm debating whether or not to make it Stone, as I have the runes. Is the strength req too high (196)? Or should I go for it?

Introduction
One of the side effects of having the rule 'characters don't share gear' is that there is always a shortage of socket quests to go around. Luckily, runewords have lightened the load a little as I can cube socket the bases, however, there are still certain uniques/sets that do still need to be socketed, especially helms.

In the past, I've got more quests by:
  • Robbing Peter to pay Paul - that is to say, taking a socket quest from an up and coming character to furnish the higher level character (I dislike doing this, as you just kick the can down the road and save up problems for those characters down the line)
  • Rushing characters using windowed mode (this is a better alternative but I'm not a fan of windowed mode and having that many open instances has its drawbacks)
I've also passed down already socketed gear once a character had outgrown it, but that only works for so long.

Watching @Nano with his twinked speedrunning videos gave me an idea, I might as well self-twink-rush a character all the way to Hell, netting more socket rewards, more Hell Forge rewards and a bonus Matriarch to add to my Murios Project total. I could also avoid windowed mode and only work on 1 character at a time, while completing all quests, waypoints and do some more cow running to get some spare Cow King's set items for future characters.

I had a full Tal's Set sitting around and my Enchantress from last year along with plenty of Sorceress gear, that wasn't top end, but would do just fine for teleporting past most monsters. The aim was to kill only that which was necessary and not pick up too much junk (which is hard for a pack rat like me! :rolleyes:)

Thus Selene_I was born - the first in a hopefully long line of faithful socket reward collectors. This is more detailed, but subsequent threads will be shorter (and maybe added to the bottom of this thread...there will be nothing new to them as I plan to use the same build layout and gear).

[Obviously, I'll suspend my rule for character's don't share gear for this project as each character will be stripped ready to pass on all the gear to their descendant, but I will personalise some stuff as I go, so they're not forgotten!]

Theme
Selene_I is a Greek Goddess of the Moon and she drives her Moon Chariot across the heavens. Frozen Orb symbolises the Full Moon and cold dark side, while Fire Ball symbolises the Blood Moon and reflected sunlight. Finally, Teleport symbolises the movement of the Chariot.

Journey

Enchant boost to level 15 as quick as possible (Need Static Field, Telekinesis and Frost Nova, at least 45 Strength):
Level 1 - 4: Bow and arrows with an awesome Enchant boost
Level 5 - 11: Flawed Ruby Gemmed Breastplate & Skull cap
Level 12 - 14: Ruby Gemmed Breastplate & Skull cap

I then muled off all her gear ready for Selene_II to take the mantle. I will probably create about 10 Selenes for the socket quests. It's a shame I deleted my much older previous cadre of socket quest characters (who weren't kitted out well at all and only got to normal Larzuk before being deleted - what a waste of potential!)

Another one of these ladies! As usual, played her on P8 through Normal and Nightmare and then P1 thereafter. She didn't quite make it to level 79, but I have completed everything including cows. Only 3 socket quests remain (which is kinda the point of this Mat!)
