Well this has been my fastest (and lowest level) Guardian ever. Done in just a few days playing about 2 hours a day, this Blizzard sorc had a blast playing through the game. So without further ado:

Well that about covers it. 250% MF, 325% on switch, while still keeping her damage and resists high. Very well-balaned. Merc handled Cold Immunes if I felt like killing them/had to kill them, and this sorc played on P8 all through Normal and Nightmare except for Ancients. On Hell she switched it down to P1 except when doing Mausoleum/Ancient Tunnel/Pindle runs to level up. The Ancients were the toughest fight as they were Fire Enchanted and Korlic was Cold Immune (he always is) and Stone Skin. However, I teleported around, dodging Korlic's leap, and killed Madawc and Talic within the first minute of the fight. After that, I let my merc tackle Korlic after placing an Oak Sage down and brining him down to half life with Static Field. Then, I waited around for about five minutes, giving my merc the occasional potion, and sometimes casting Chain Lightning (which did 1-163). My merc had trouble with Korlic because he was Stone Skin, but he finally fell. I TPed through the WSK straight to Throne Room and took Baal on P3 with ease. Once I level her to 90, she's going on my sig. I will say that she was one of my favourite characters to play, ever, and I didn't get bored of her at all. Time to do P8 Pindle with only 325% MF!

Normal & Nightmare

Envy setup til’ 18, then Iratha’s til 30. At 30 Razorswitch+Vipermagi+Peasant, and at 42 Occy+Whitstan’s which remained through all Nightmare. Anyone who played a FO sorc knows how overpowered it is through Normal and Nightmare, my merc dealt with the occasional CIs.

Act 1
Got 71st lvl upon killing NM Baal so it was time for Full Tal’s. With the added +15% cold damage, FO did ~430 damage and was enough to kill all the non CIs.

Act 2
First opportunity to try out Lightning was in Claw Viper temple and it did a fine job. Because of relatively slow cast rate and FHR they stunned me a few times, but nothing too alarming because of the max block and high life orb.

Act 3
Flayers... How I hate them. It would be just fine if there were only Lightning immune Soul Killers or Cold Immune Flayers, but when they spawn together they can be a real pain...

Act 4
Love this act, it’s short, gets you two skills and a high chance of scoring a good rune. Lord de Seis spawned with extra fast + Fanaticism so it was kinda hard separating them, but FO did a good job.

Act 5
Had some really bad rolls in this one. When I entered the Crystalline Passage, two extra fast Moon Lord boss packs + one Succubi boss pack awaited for me. Had an NDE there (they become REALLY fast when they manage to hit you with their frenzy a few times). Frozen River spawned Gloams (even though my lres is 75, they still hurt).

Impressions:
I found myself using FO all the time, and L/CL only for the CIs (even though I have more points invested in the lightning tree). Somehow I have the feeling this isn’t the right char to go with untwinked, Meteorb or Blizzard is probably the way to go. So if you don’t have some elementary gear don’t expect wonders from this build.

Not surprisingly it was my meph-runner that first made it to guardian.
Most of the time it was a breeze, but come Hell act 4 some areas just got slow as killing Izual on p8 Normal untwinked.
First big hurdle was Chaos Sanctuary. Until I found the reaper's toll I had no way to deal with the OKs which Is why I was such a high level when I finally went ahead and made her guardian (Note: she was lvl 78 when she first killed Mephisto)

Since I was such a high level and had 800+ life with nigh full resists and a decent fcr most of the open areas of act V was teleported through. Nothing was fast enough to hit me so even the times I landed in the middle of a pack nothing happened.
Then came frozen river. Suddenly the roles of Cool_gal and her merc switched. Usually the merc was holyfreeze on a stick but now Cool_gal was teleport on a stick. Lots of positioning, teleporting and TP'ing to remove IM later and I had a resist scroll as well as a red portal.
Lots of teleporting later and I was among the ancients. 2 non-CI and one harmless CI on the first roll. He did have stoneskin though, so it took a while but there was no real danger.

WSK... lvl 1 was a bit slow since everything was cold immune, but no undead flayers or gloams until I cleared some parking space for Baals minions so I was never in any danger here either.
Enter the minions. Blizzard. No more minions. Enter Lister and Company. Blizzard. Only Lister stands as he is Cold immune. Reapers toll does it's thing and Im following Baal through the portal. Teleport on top of Baals area, drop a lot of blizzards in big B's face and Give the merc a few pots as needed and viola! Instant Guardian! (Now why has it taken so long to get here?)

I was actually very surprised to finish the game at level 83. In SC, I generally would beat baal around 86 or 87... but I tend to be a lot more thorough and not skip so much in SC and when I'm playing a character who doesn't have so many problems with immunes.

Since I was playing self-found, I focused on resists (especially lightning) and faster cast rate, and +skills. Without further adieu... atma readouts for her gear.

I used the rockstopper against bosses, and the vamp gaze for everything else so he had some leech. I never found an elite polearm to make a better insight. At this point, I'm not even sure I still really /need/ insight... although it is really nice, and he seems to do pretty well with it. Hopefully I find a nice ethereal cryptic axe soon and get lucky on the socket recipe.

At this point, Xendaria will be a full time magic finder. First to get herself better geared for safety and maximizing efficiency, and then to supply the rest of my HC characters. I'm hoping to do a LF/FA zon soon, a wolfbarb and eventually if I get lucky and get runes for infinity... I'll make a pure light sorc.


I learned an awful lot with this character. Playing hardcore seriously has taught me how to play smarter. I can spot bosspacks instantly now, and quickly assess them for danger. I have learned to make much better use of teleport... and playing as a single element sorc taught me how to deal with really hard circumstances in the game.

All in all, this has been a very fun character... and I hope she will live forever and supply all my characters. Next up for her is about 2000 mephisto runs, and then pindle and AT forever.

Cream is my 2nd Guardian in Single Play. My first one, LisaLisa, a Blizzwaller, met her fate in the hands of Mephisto. Overconfidence, the HC killer, as I saw somewhere in diii.net :crazyeyes:

Back to Cream. She's a pure blizzard sorceress, intended to give Hell Meph a quick and painful time; her territory is the durance of hate, the best build for meph farming IMO. However, being cold only, most of the time she's zipping through every other area in hell. As for MF only, I'm very satisfied :nod:

Cream obtained her title by level 83. Ancients weren't difficult. Talic and Madawc came down somewhat quick to blizzard and ice blast, and CI Korlic felt the wrath of my defiance merc and 4-5 damage of my telekinesis :jig:

The WSK was quite annoying, as I had to reroll about 3 times to avoid nasty monsters and CI's, mainly in the throne room.

Minions were easy, except for the CI mages in the undead pack... had to static and rely on telekilling with my merc's help.

Baal himself, even easier. Drop blizzard, teleport near, static to 50%, blizzard, iceblast x3, blizzard, iceblast x3... Piece o' cake.

Her best finds have been a Lo this morning (will be making a Fort with it as soon as I find a base), and Azurewrath and Griswold's Honor in a MP session the other night (cheers to whoever it was that let me keep both). Apart form the odd MP session she's spending her time running ATs, Andy, and Meph (I have a perfect Meph map, so I'm making do with sub optimal AT and Andy maps, and not MPing for a while).

One question: does a plain Thresher beat an eth Partizan as an Insight base?

Matilda has reached 'Guardian' status! Matilda is named after 'Matilda' from, y'know, the film 'Matilda'. This was one of my favourite films as a young child. For those who don't appreciate it, and since there is no highlights video (see below), please watch the following clip :D


Unfortunately, there is no video for Matilda as OBS for some reason got completely messed up and everything is out of sync. I still have the footage, but the audio is off. Kinda annoying because there were a couple of beautiful NDEs :p

Matilda was played slightly differently than my other guardians in the sense that it was a matter of utility. I just wanted ther to Guardian ASAP as she is going to be my CS runner, and so normal and nightmare were P8, whilst hell was P1. Therefore, she reached guardianship at level 79, my lowest. She is a fairly standard blizzard sorceress...

A few points of interest;
- As I said, a few nice NDEs!
- NM HF was an Um
- She found a Sur rune in act IV, I think it was going into Plains of Despair. That will be cubed to make CoH for her.
- 50% of my guardians have found a high rune whilst questing. Crazy.

Normal and NM were a walk in the park however hell was a different story altogether. With no means of dealing with any cold immunes many of hells minions throughout all of the acts were simply ignored and Teleported past. This explains the low level at which guardian was acheived. In diablos sanctuary however Job hit a very large snag when he was required to kill 2 cold immune OK bosses and a pack of champion OK cold immune's. Luckily I had this stashed away in ATMA:

Thus allowing the cold immunes to be very, very slowly cooked. (It took 45 mins from entering the sanctuary to killing diablo)

Diablo,was a breeze, the ancients had only one cold immune, and balls minions went down suprisingly easily. I should have almost expected baal to drop what he did.

Jobs only problem was cronicly low health which resulted in lots of teleporting , sweating, full rejuvs and more teleporting. leaving me thinking that max vit is a more attractive option than max block.

Normal and NM were played on p8, and they were really easy in almost every way. I killed NM Baal at lvl 75, and after that I started doing NM meph runs for gear. I could have started the runs earlier but I didn't have any problems and it is safer to run Meph when you have leveld up little bit more. Got my selffound HC grail started nicely too.

I did some NM meph runs today, and got Vipermagis with good resist. At that point I decided to start hell, at last I could get good resists without too much hassle. Yep, the whole hell difficulty was played through today (mostly on p1 though). There was few problematic areas, first of them was Claw Viper Temple with all those cold immune snakes as skellies. Couldn't get anywhere on my first try, so I cleared Ancient Tunnels dozen times on p5 for exp (and possible items, got Arioc's there, which is my 1st HC EU). Managed to get the top piece of Horadric Staff on second try, I had to use doorways, SF and TK to help my merc quite often.

Act 3 was very easy, I used teleport to skip most CI, because I didn't want to wait until my merc kills every damn CI blowdart flayer in the jungles...

I met gloams in act 4 but they weren't much of a problem, just dodge the lightning and cast Blizz on them. Hellforge dropped Ko btw.

Act 5 wasn't too bad, I had to reroll Frozen River couple of time because of Sirens. My merc can handle most CI monster quite easily, except those. I killed Ancients on third reroll. Triggering the altar with TK and quickly teleporting to the other side of the mountaintop worked quite nicely for separating the barbs. I killed Madawc first because he was Cursed+Conviction. When he died I lured the other near the WSK entarnce and teled fast to Ancients Way entrance and waited until curse duration runs out. Talic was easy to pwn (he wasn't CI), and merc killed Korlic without any problems (I had wand with Life Tap charges on switch).

WSK was easy, even though gloams, snakes and OK's spawned. Baal dropped crap, but got a nice title for reward.

This is my first sp character since starting to play again. I've always been HC player and this time wasn't an exception.
High lvl of this character was caused by many many ancient tunnels / pindle / mephiruns before I decided to make her Guardian. Normal/Nmare was played with /players 8,
Hell with /players 1. Had to reroll Ancients once because they all were Cold Immunes. The Oculus wasn't very good at WSK, ctc teleport was freaky :) Nevertheless, had no NDEs.

I am not good at writing long stories so this is it. This character will be my main Pindle/Mephi/Cowrunner. Main goal now is to find IK Armor, ww barbarian will be my next character.

Introduction

On a whim, I decided to play some HC again. My first character was a Fire Summoner, following AlterEgo's guide. To be fair, it's probably a Hell-viable character untwinked, but it's slow as molasses. He ended up kicking the bucket in Hell Arcane Sanctuary at level 75. *shrug* Even with Decrepify, trying to Teleport past monsters with minimal FCR/FHR is typically a bad idea. ;).

Anyway, with that death, Yagami Hayate was born. I had a very tough time deciding how to build her, as her spells happen to be modeled particularly well by Diablo 2. *shrug* Eventually, I settled on Frozen Orb and Glacial Spike, with a small pinch of Blizzard. If that doesn't sound like actually making a decision... well... :D.

Comments
Glacial Spike cheats. The damage looks pretty low, but it's actually very good. Many times, it was more usable than Frozen Orb, though they worked very well in combination as well. It was something along the lines of, "Would you be so kind as to stay in my sweet spot?". Blizzard was used a little more sporadically. *shrug* It was just a matter of preference, I suppose. The damage was good enough to kill Baal's waves on /players 1 quite easily, so that certainly wasn't a problem. Frozen Orb was *probably* the best act boss killer, or at least it felt the fastest. As for Shiver Armor, I'd definitely say that it helped. It gives you that extra split second you need to get away from a melee attacker. Not something I'd rely on (because it means stuff is getting close to you), but it certainly saved Hayate's skin from time to time.

When it comes to Cold Immunes, it depended on the situation. Some were just skipped, while others (Oblivion Knights, and other such nuisances) had to be dealt with methodically. Hayate was quite lucky finding gear for her mercenary. His 'Insight' Thresher was great, in conjunction with Static Field, Telekinesis, and Open Wounds, made short work of most immunes.

NDEs? Let's see. She didn't have much trouble with the first few acts. With her gear mixing and matching Angelic, Cleglaw's, Hsarus', and Iratha's, it's not hard to imagine why. Normal Diablo *almost* got her. His lightning hose hit her for far too long, and she had around 25 hit points after it was all said and done. Hell Diablo also almost got her. He let loose his firestorm right as he died, and Hayate wasn't exactly prepared for that. =X. I'm a real sucker for Diablo. You'd think I would learn after he fried Nanoha in Hell. *shrug* She also suffered many NDEs against things with massive elemental damage (Scarabs, Souls, etc.). Most of her resist gear was not equipped until later on in Hell (poor stat point distribution), which meant many of the earlier battles were very dangerous.

Hayate is a staff wielder, so you can probably imagine how happy I was to see that Chromatic Ire drop relatively early on in the game (especially with that roll!). Having said that, she used 'Spirit' and 'Rhyme' up until around Act 5 Nightmare. Chromatic Ire's resistances were very nice, and so was its 22% extra life. Useful stuff. Other finds? She got an ethereal Kelpie Snare, as well as basically all of her own gear. From her forges, she got a Lem rune (NM) and Hel rune (Hell). She also found quite a few FECELE bosspacks. Off the top of my head, I can remember about 5. Yuck. Such tough little buggers.

Anyway, since this is a pretty simple character, I might as well keep things short. Hooray for Guardian Hayate!

Future Plans
For Hayate, she might slap on some MF and do Pindle runs. She can handle them quite easily on /players 1, though her mercenary dies too much on anything higher.

For my project, I have no idea. The Fire Summoner's death is annoying in the grand scheme of things. Not exactly raring to remake him, and it doesn't help that all my twinking gear was lost after I suffered a lag death in an MP game recently. Meh. (Yes, I am going to blame lag for that HORRIBLY pathetic death.)

He's doing insane damage with fortitude and might. Like 2k-8k or something. But I'm not really that impressed with his obedience weapon. I'll swap in my near perfect eth Arriocs once he's at a level to do that. For area runs he'll get a delirium crown. Fortitude will stay where it is.

I'll probably replace her shaft with a skullder's and do a few MF runs. Though she needs 2 more levels first. Or a few str charms.

Well, basically there's not much to tell about her. Overall it was pretty easy, a few NDEs but always the occulus bailed me out just in time. Once it teleported me like 10 times in rapid succession, I bet that made IceQueen kinda dizzy. Ancients were kinda easy, too. One wasn't CI and went down to blizzard, my merc took the other two. I noticed that I was constanly losing life for no good reason, though. Mods were magic resistant and cold enchanted and I took damage even though I was half a screen away and the guy wasn't even doing anything. Not much damage but it was weird nontheless.

So, what's in store for her now? I guess she'll go back to act 2 and clear the ancient tunnels repeatedly. I don't need another pindle runner and meph has already given me most of what he can reasonably give me. I won't run baal with her, I've got several people who are a lot better suited for that job.

I still need some input on what to do with the last 18 skill points. I'm thinking of taking CM to -150%. Does it make sense to take it higher?

Okay, here's how it all went down. I made a blizzard sorc shortly before this one and had a friend rush me to diablo who I wound up dying to. This character's life was going to be devoted tot he mfo, so with only a few days to prepare, I wasn't sure if I was even up to it anymore. Then, FoE offered a rush and some starter gear such as dual spirit and low level rares. So after he got me past diablo and to eldritch, I was ready to grind the levels, and did eldritch/pindle until maybe 45-48. I also did a few baal runs, too. Then, I rushed to NM meph, where I was hoping to find vipermagi armor, and didn't. I also had a perfect (almost?) map that took me 1 teleport through an annoying corner to get to lvl 3. Of course I got bored of that pretty quickly and rushed to eldritch/pindke again and levelled to about 70. Then I rushed to ancient tunnels, and began preparing myself for the mfo (in other words, I ran until I was level 84, iirc). I grew very comfortable with my map, and then ran like crazy for the mfo.

After about 50 hours in those tunnels, with a map reset in the end because I found an eth skullders and wizardspike, and needed a respec, I set out for maybe 5 more hours on the last day. I placed, second, which I was very happy with, since it was nearly untwinked, and my mf started at 129 ;).

I checked my grail status beforehand (17%) and afterwards (58%) and I'm very happy with this. Almost all of the good items that I found were items I've never seen before, including windforce. I also found a Lo and a Ber, so you betcha i'm going to make a strafer with fortitude and windy. First I need to motivate myself to work on my sept, though :/

I recorded the final battle, too.

Just some backstory on this. As my first hardcore character I of course wanted one that would be able to magic find to my hearts content after our group concluded so I went with a sorceress. The teleport would of course be useful to the group to speed along where we needed to bypass (even though we walked almost all of it) and to do multiple boss runs (MP eliminates that nice static map feature single player has). Originally she was going to be a hydra/orb hybrid sorc. Since it was my first hardcore character I wanted something safe, but still able to progress and it was one combination I hadn't completed during my Bnet MP career. After some debate and since other elements were covered by the group I went with a standard full blizzard sorc. Being my first character I origianlly went untwinked up until about Act 4 or 5 NM where another forum member (Thanks FoE!) Generously dontated me some gear (including full tals set) to make the trek through Hell mode. At this point I respec'd to do max block with a visceratuant defender and kept rolling. MF switch consisted of an ali baba and rhyme in a grim sheild which kept max block even on switch.

The mp group originally consisted of a few members, including crawlingdeadman (Fire dancer), coju (singer), drewgie (Phoenix striker), and myself (blizz sorc). Hairless (fishymancer) joined us sometime in nm mode. The group eventually dwindled (drewgie disappeared, and hairless had an unfortunate rip in the pits) to the point where it was only cdm and I through to the end.

We ran all of normal and NM on p8 and all of Hell on p3, although I think we probably could have handled higher if we were daring enough too. Once I got to level 24 cruzing through Normal and NM was a breeze even untwinked, my blizzard combined with cdm's fire traps and the constant stun of war cry just made everything fall over without even trying. Bosses were taken down quickly through a combination of static and crushing blow from cdm's kicks, making much of the game a breeze. She did multiple NM meph runs to try to gear up some inbetween MP group sessions. Luck so had it that I found a vmagi, and some other gear such as frosties, magefists, goldwrap, and some other standard goodies (no occy of course though). With my finds I was confident enough to move onto hell (I was hitting good fcr and fhr breakpoints, with maxed res in nm (obviously would have been lower in hell) without problem but the tal's set definately made it easier.

Hell mode became a little more difficult, were were down to just me and cdm but our builds still complimented eachother pretty well. Any non-cold immunes were still steam rolled by the group, and any cold immunes cdm took out with his fire traps and kicked from here to next week with some nice static support of course. Act bosses still proved to be incredibly easy. The most difficult parts were probably some champion/boss packs in late hell mode as the immunity combinations were proving quite annoying. The ancients roll was decent, I believe Madawac was holy freeze enchanted (but the only non cold immune), another was Holy Shock. Didn't really catch the other since he was taken care of pretty fast after the holy freeze was gone. Baal himself was pretty uneventful, ran into gloams and dolls of course. In some baal runs after completion I definately teleported into (and promptly out of) some packs with fanac or might enchanted.

Anyway, heres some information on the final stats, I think I was somewhere around level 84/85 when we first killed baal due to my excess magic find runs in the tunnels and meph in hell mode. For some reason all of the tal set bonuses aren't showing up in the report so I added a couple things in parenthesis.

FredofErik, graciously offered his services to help progress a new Blizz Sorc. He also traded me a 3 cold skill/29% mf amulet as well in exchange for naming one of my characters Freddy_Sunshine but that is a different story that you will soon see and one of the reasons I have written this thread.

Well, through multiple multiplayer sessions, the rebuild was successful, I had a new guardian in short work thanks to the generosity of the others, however the victory was short lived as she ended up in her current black robe state in an unfortunate baal run with cdm and pharphis. That run has been one of the most deadly runs I have been in since both my blizz sorc, and phar’s singer deeded in that same run.

I don’t recall much about her since her life was so short, other than some standard meph runs for items and experience, there was not much different between her and her predecessor. Both were effective, and both deeded in the throne room. This version however was not of the max block variety. Since I was unable to have my prior sorc looted, and I didn't have another tals ammy, this one went with a occy/shako/snowclash setup rather than full tals. I still used the armor because it was either that or skulders, and I desperately needed the res if I recall correctly.

Unfortunately I do not have an accurate readout available for this character, but she made guardian somewhere around level 80, and deeded at level 84. You will probably see her successor at some point in the future, but she is not technically a guardian yet, and probably won’t be until I decide I want to complete the ancients quest either now or later.

The lesson learned from this experience though, when cdm says watch out for the lightning enchanted, watch out for them.

This merc was strong enough to kill any CI monsters in the game, thats why i used mighty one...



Gameplay events, finds, thoughts:

Normal/NM - she was melee fighter until lvl 18, then for rest of the game Blizzard/Ice Blast/Glacial spike/Static Field...I do nor remember any problems here, so this part was easy...
As for Hell - too many very dangerous situations (mostly because of reckless teleporting while running Areas/Bosses), but one REAL NDE when i encouraged myself and entered Nihlathaks chamber...I just foolishly underestimated dmg from his CE skill and my sorcy nearly died (say 50 hitpoints was remaining...).Full rejuv potion and very quick teleport away saved her life and lesson was learned, i think...

As for Act 5 Hell - i never seen so many CI monsters in my Diablo career...I've been lucky, when i had two types of CI monsters in area and one non CI, really...

Anyas quest was not that much bad as it would be, but Succubi/Sirens made it very funny...

Ancients - what a nice turn of events - i killed them very quickly on the first attemp, two of them non CI - yeah!!!

WSK/Baal - same like with ancients, very friendly rolls of monsters...

Ice queen is now Guardian...

Finds:

I won't list here all items she found while running, but just from my memory 4x Stormshield, Giant skull (bot grailers for me) and this nice surprise from chest behind Mephy - yeah SUR!!


HForges:

Normal/NM/Hell - thats pretty bad

Future plans:

MFO and then Mephy/Tunnels/Pindle until retirement or death....

Thoughts
I was going for as much survivability as possible. At 63FCR, 50%DR, 75%Block, 75@Res, 48%FHR, ~1750 life after BO she's quite durable I have to say. I'm only missing a Fathom, better fcr ring and BKWB. I would also like LR/Life SC's to stack LR a bit and Chilling GC's with life but she's doing just fine right now, so... Also I forgot to mention she's not wearing her Gheed's and one more Chilling GC, so add 40MF and +1 Cold Skills.

Sidenote: I deeded her at clvl71 in the NM Throne vs Dolls while leveling to equip the gear for Hell, which thankfully I haven't mulled on yet, so I remade her. :p

I like it enough not to reroll anymore, but I'm gonna need some opinions on how good/bad it is. I don't bother timing the runs as I usually don't run as fast as possible (pick up rares, gems, crafting runes etc. plus drinking stuff, smoking, Alt-tabbing every 5 runs and so on).

Future Plans
If I ever stumble across a decent Death's Fathom, I'd Probably Ist it and switch out the HotO and Chance Guards in favor of DF and Trang's Gloves, but that's one big if. Also as soon as I level up (or run Big D and Baal for essences) I will switch out the Strength charms in favor of 'of Good Luck' ones.

Also I'd like to thank Pyro for letting me borrow his Tal Ammy until I find/trade for one.
