Lore​

One day the townfolk of -undisclosed- found a baby in basket at the gate. From the tiny firebolts flying at them they quickly deduced she was in fact a sorceress. They had heard sorceresses were good at aquiring valuables, so with a glimmer of gold in their eyes, they decided to foster her as their own. In the hopes of Nomen est omen the girl was named Gibamulet. It was only afterwards the townfolk realized their mistake: If RNGesus has a secretary reading these requests out loud to her they all might just end up with excess hair on their necks!

Even so, when Gibamulet was of age, at the risk of their hairdos, the townfolk sent her questing, wishing she would some day return to them with Tal Rasha’s Adjudication, Highlord’s Wrath and Cat’s Eye.

Thoughs​

The plan was originally to make a pure fire sorc. But I was really put off by the idea of needing to skip immune monsters or excessively rely on merc. So I decided to make a hybrid for the playthrough. Twinked to the teeth Gibamulet started with a focus on fire skills. After the short physical damage dealing childhood, Fireball Leaf staff was equipped and after that Fireballs were flying. Fireball and firebolt were maxed and one point was put in fire mastery before starting with cold skills.

Gibamulet needed a backup skill and Frozen Orb was chosen once again. To do something really wild and different I left cold mastery at one point and put all remaining points in ice bolt after frozen orb was maxed. In the end it did not feel any different to my Countess running Lightning / FO sorcerer’s orb which was done the classical way (1 in ice bolt, enough in mastery for -100 res).

Fireball damage never felt inadequate along the way although fire skills were not basically assigned any extra points after normal difficulty. This adequasy was at least partly due to the twinking adding to skills on regular intervals.

With full FB focus in normal Gibamulet was a powerhouse. In P8 NM Gibamulet was still a powerhouse. P1 Hell was doable. Players X in hell = slow.


Verdict​

I really liked the simplicity of never switching away from teleport on right click and just mousewheel up / mousewheel down to switch between the main skills. Act bosses got static fielded but that was the exception to the rule. Also having teleport always ready helped undoing “Oculus drift”. Great char for matting, but bad for leveling: anything more than player 1 felt slow.

Post matriarch dayjob​

I ran Hell Andy on P1 for a while. It did not feel so effective but I was hesitant to respec for a full fire build because of the fire immune little critters and undead in Andys chamber. Finally I did it anyway and was really happy as I could switch to P3 gresulting in more drops. Fire immunes were no real problem either. Runs go as follows: Teleport next to Andy, gift her 8 Fireballs, watch 0-2 unique packs die from death animation and pick up loot. This is the way. :)

Nice Mat! I love any and all varieties of Fire Ball Sorceress. Fire Ball with Frozen Orb as the backup skill is a fantastic combo. When Stoney Tomb was made an alvl 85 area in D2R, I re-spec'd my Fire Ball Sorc to go all-in on Fire skills. Now that Sunder charms are a thing in offline Single Player, she is of course using one of those as well. But I sort of miss the original hybrid FB/FO build that I quested through the game with. I have been thinking about going back to that and discarding the Sunder GC now that the novelty is a little over with that.

I have to ask: Which of the three amulets have you found thus far? I have been hoping to find a Tal's amulet for so long now... So many green amulets, and no Tal's. I've never found Cat's Eye either, which I hope to come across someday. The only one I've had some good luck with is Highlord's, having found two or three of them now.
 
@little birdy The amulet is Cats Eye.

I do remember reading your ”How many days/runs until Tal’s amulet” thread and thinking we will be having a competition :)
 
I need to get back to that project... I have a good Catacombs map in Hell with my Sorc right now, so I should get back in the habit of running Andy for green amulets more. The competition is on! :D
