Making Prudence

Hello all,

I found an eth scarab husk last night and cubing it yielded two sockets, which I've hoped for on the last 3 to 4 eth armors.

Scarab Husk
Defense: 1003
Durability: 15 of 15
Required Level: 51
Required Strength: 85
Fingerprint: 0xb967dab9
Item Level: 78
Version: Expansion 1.10+
Properties:
Ethereal
2 Sockets (0 used)

I'm thinking of making:

Prudence 2 Socket Body Armor
Mal + Tir
+25% Faster Hit Recovery
+140-170% Enhanced Defense (varies)
All Resistances +25-35 (varies)
Damage Reduced by 3
Magic Damage Reduced by 17
+2 To Mana After Each Kill
+1 To Light Radius
Repairs Durability 1 In 4 Seconds

In the end it will have between 2400 and 2700 defense. This is about as good as it gets as far as defense in an armor, though I could keep looking for one with better defense.

Or I could just make a smoke or stealth for my mercs. What do you think?

Re: Making Prudence

Imo, Prudence is a pretty weak runeword. I would just make either smoke or stealth because a Mal rune is pretty valuable (at least to me).

Unless you have a specific use for Prudence and you really think you need the armor, I would say save the Mal.

Re: Making Prudence

If you can actually put Prudence to good use (and spare the Mal), I'd go for it. Gotta be worth some style points for treading way off the beaten path!

Re: Making Prudence

I recall someone using Prudence as part of a MDR build...I think it was a wind druid utilizing Cyclone Armor.

Re: Making Prudence

Use the Mal to make a stone instead (trade it for Um and a Pul). You maybe lose a bit of defense but you will get

+35% FHR
10-20 less resist all
+16 STR (can be spent in vit so 32+ life)
+16 VIT (at least 32 life)
+10 ENE

+60% Faster Hit Recovery
+250-290% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+300 Defense Vs. Missile
+16 To Strength
+16 To Vitality
+10 To Energy
All Resistances +15
Level 16 Molten Boulder (80 Charges)
Level 16 Clay Golem (16 Charges)

+25% Faster Hit Recovery
+140-170% Enhanced Defense (varies)
All Resistances +25-35 (varies)
Damage Reduced by 3
Magic Damage Reduced by 17
+2 To Mana After Each Kill
+1 To Light Radius
Repairs Durability 1 In 4 Seconds

Why did I never make stone :hang::banghead:

Re: Making Prudence

For a defence-based build a Prudence would be really nice.. Either some paladin or ironbarb would make sweet use of that item, but like bassen said, Stone offers a lot of really usefull stuff. Unless you are defence based and want that really high def go with stone..

Re: Making Prudence

There are little to no builds which can make use of Defense - and always at the expense of skill-points. The implementation of this parameter within D2 game system simply sucks.

Seeing as high defense is the only major advantage of 'Prudence' over similar unique/RW armors, and counting in the random range on an important attribute (resists), it's rather a fad with uncertain result. If at least those ethereal armors looked ethereal when equiped..

REMARK: found the word "fad" in a dictionary, so I hope it means what I suppose it does :scratchchin:

I admit, however, I considered making this RW as well, but went for 'Sanctuary' instead. For some reason, both these runewords containing Mal depend on how the roll on resists turns out.

As for Bassen' remark, my 'Stone's been collecting dust in the stash since the day I made it, and condemned it as inadequate for Baal-running purposes. Things may have been different if I had not made it in a Sacred Armor , but not that different. The overall usefulness of these armors is just too low.

Re: Making Prudence

@ Ugla - I think thats the main reason it's collecting dust, you can't use it due the high STR req :p unless its on a more STR based build. Still in comparsion to Prudence, Stone is much better and it's also cheaper.

Re: Making Prudence

Prudence is basically a Skin of the Vipermagi with huge defense (which is mostly useless) and nice fhr, but no fcr/+skill/no socket for costumization.

Other mid RW's that require a Mal (eg, Oath and Sanctuary come to mind) are far better than Prudence.

In short, in your shoes I wouldn't use that Mal to make Prudence.

Re: Making Prudence

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm glad I asked for opinions first.

I already have an eth stone, eth duress, eth guardian angel, non-eth smoke, and non-eth treachery so I'm pretty well covered on merc armor. The next merc armor I make will probably be an eth Gloom. For my characters, I could make a stone or duress or gloom instead of prudence. And actually Gloom looks pretty good too.

Gloom
3 Socket Body Armor
Fal + Um + Pul
15% Chance To Cast Level 3 Dim Vision When Struck
+10% Faster Hit Recovery
+200-260% Enhanced Defense (varies)
+10 To Strength
All Resistances +45
Half Freeze Duration
5% Damage Taken Goes To Mana
-3 To Light Radius

Prudence just looked pretty good and the possibility of huge defense on a barb or paladin seemed good too. That and it's about the only use for 2os eth armor. I guess I can make a smoke with it.

I don't actually have any mals; I have 4 ums. Mals were used up cubing a Vex a while back. And I am saving 2 ums so I can make an Oath, but I want to make it in a 1.07 eth cryptic sword. My 1.07 sorc is in act 4 of NM. :smug: So the Oath has to wait just a bit longer.

I just won't make anything yet. It's better to make something later when I'm more sure what I want.

LHTB, my mercs usually wear guardian angel when killing council members. Though mdr could help a lot.

Ugla, I made stone in a Archon Plate and it sees a lot of use. My zon's defiance merc has about 24k defense.

Thanks again.

Re: Making Prudence

I've got one of these, lying around in a stash. I've never used it for anything. :p

Code:
Prudence
Scarab Husk
'MalTir'
Defense: 2582
Durability: 15 of 15
Required Strength: 85
Required Level: 51
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 86
Fingerprint: 0x4c1ad0df
+157% Enhanced Defense
Damage Reduced by 3
Magic Damage Reduced by 17
All Resistances +31
+1 to Light Radius
25% Faster Hit Recovery
+2 to Mana After Each Kill
Repairs 1 durability in 4 seconds
Ethereal (Cannot be Repaired), Socketed (2: 2 used)

It does look nice, but in the end, it doesn't offer anything of value over RW's like Stone or Duress.
