Low Level Random Tournament, Round 2

Necrotron is in Act V and going strong. The melee thing didn't work out so well; I can't really hit anything, and even when I do, don't do much damage at all. So back to Bone Spears and exploding corpses it is.

On the equipment front, let me tell you, I've never been so excited to see a Sol rune drop. Just as soon as I can find a two-socketed helm, I'll be making myself a Lore runeword with that and my Barb quest reward. Damage reduction, lightning resist, and +1 to skills? Yes, please!

Act V
Waypoints: 1 - lvl26, 2 - lvl26, 3 - lvl27
Quests: Shenk - lvl26, Barbs - lvl26
Skills: Amp Damage=3, Bone Armor=3, Clay Golem=6, Teeth=3, Bone Wall=3, Corpse Explosion=6, Golem Mastery=3, Blood Golem=3
Rerolls Remaining: 4

God I love Sols. There are few runes, droppable in normal, that are better at totally rocking! I make Lore pretty much every time I take a character into NM. (The NM countess is one of the only monsters I'll run, if I need a Sol. I usually have one by this point though.) Plus 3 Sols = 1 Shael!

Well, maybe that's not the best use of such runes. But hey...

I got the Spider Forest WP (at level 22). That is all.

The low levels thing is something I've been thinking about a lot as well...this once again persuades me to step into the Frigid Highlands, and see just what level I can Pat my Necromancer at. (lower being more exciting of course) Naturally this will happen after Hell Duriel hands my Wolf his severed head. *uber-wishful thinking*

Chaos_Knight is still going. And after using up some rerolls, he will (if I'm lucky) be a Ranger eventually. Here's my updates for tonight.

Quests:
Radament - 15

Waypoints:
Sewers - 14
Dry Hills - 15

Good luck to all, and scores will be uploaded in a few minutes.

Grrrr, this is getting to be a pain in the rear.

Decided that it was time for some levels to avoid dying. Since he has used so many rerolls, I decided not to use any more unless I'm truly in dire need. But Kelvin got polearm mastery at lvl 18, and mace mastery for lvl 21. So far 12 out of 22 pts into masteries. Doesn't make for good killing power.

Anyone know if the bug where you can't hit is still on (If you hold the mouse button down)? It seems with a 90% chance to hit that most of his swings miss.... maybe 3 out of 4 miss even though the char screen says his chance to hit is good

Got the amulet, and therefore the tainted sun quest at lvl 19, haven't gone for the staff yet, but have got the cellar lvl 1 wp at lvl 19, and the arcane sanc wp at lvl 20.

Good luck to all

Another update, been playing a lot today, cause of this typhoon in Japan:

Werewolf, Raven, Oak sage x 2, Spirit wolf, Lycanthropy, Feral rage, Rabies, Dire Wolf, Lycanthropy
Rerolls Left: 6 (2 more down, but at least it's left me with good trees)

Act 5: Quests:
(1) 22 (2) 22 (3) 22 (4) 22 (5) 22 (6) 23
WPS:
(1) 22 (2) 22 (3) 22 (4) 22 (5) 22 (6) 22 (7) 22 (8) 23

Act 1 NM: Quests:
(1) 23 (3) 24
WPS:
(1) 23 (2) 24 (3) 24 (4) 24 (5) 24

Damn ancients, if it weren't for them I would have gone through all of A5 withough leveling  As it is, the only hard part of act 5 was baal, who took forever, what with my Steel flail. I really wish I had something with CB. As soon as I get a perfect ruby or 2... Anyway, it's not that I didn't kill anything in Act 5, it's just that when you're such a low lvl, killing doesn't get you experience, so I'm now using that to my advantage in NM.

I was somewhat item poor coming into NM, and killing things isn't so easy at lvl 24, but my current strategy is to do a ton of bishbosh runs before I hit lvl 25. He spawned next to the Cold Plains WP, and he gives me almost no experience and usually drops at least 1 rare. I've already gotten a nice 110% ed rare maul with some other nice mods, including AR and some elemental damage. Also, this really sweet, low level necro circlet for the prize stash:

Brimstone Veil
Circlet
Defense: 26
Durability: 28 of 35
Required Level: 27
Item Level: 39
+49 to Life
Fire Resist +15%
Lightning Resist +15%
Cold Resist +35%
Poison Resist +15%
+1 to Necromancer Skill Levels
20% Faster Cast Rate
Level 1 Ice Blast (20/22 Charges)

Quite frankly I wish I was a bonemancer with this thing, + life, resist all, +1 skills, and 20% fcr at lvl 27!!! As you can see from the ilvl, this is one of the things Bishbosh was nice enough to donate to the cause. I might try to finish the rest of act 1 while I'm 24, but with my %to hit getting worse, there's little or no chance of moving onto Act 2 at this lvl. And as soon as I hit lvl 25 the ~0 experience zone disappears, so I'm gonna mf while there's still little consequence in terms of experience. Good luck all.

Goltar: Quick tournament question. We can mule items that we find off and on, can we mule money off and on using the the bank of ATMA, as long as we keep track of how much goes each way, so that there isn't a surplus on? I'm just curious because I'm making a ton of money, but I don't want to gamble until my level is higher.

Had a little time to play today and decided to start Leopold rather than continuing my TWD adventure.

Decided not to go the ultra-low level route as I'd be dead before the end of Act III (muchos kudos to those who are! :worship: ) Instead went the /players8 way with the intention of surviving for some while. Am leaving the side areas though and occasionally running to a WP rather than fighting everything I come across first, so that will help a bit.

No scares yet except for an LE rogue archer type in the Tower...but that was very close! Have an awful map for the Countess, so no temptation to run her at all.

Got a second random Might roll on the fourth skill roll (and no rerolls used at all), so I am a very happy bunny.

Since last update:

WPs: Cold Plains 1, Stony Field 7, Dark Wood 12, Black Marsh 13
Quests: Den 5, Blood Raven 8, Cain 12, Tower 15

this is my last last update,

i tried to pull off the same "get all the wps in act1 first" like i had in nm, but i met my end in the underground passage.

The final boss that killed me was fe/ce/spectral. I dont think i can blame it on the fe bug though.

a question though - do all item finds have to go in the stash? i've remembered how much fun hc is and i'll probly be starting it up again, that occy would look nice on my mfer. If they do then thats fine

quests -

den-58

waypoints

plains - 58
stony - 58

Sorry to hear about the death. Tough losing a character once you've made it all the way to hell. Usually you send all set/unique finds in with the stash (although of course goltar gets final word as creator of the tourney). Don't worry though, with a character making it to hell, there's a chance you'll get it back. Even if people get farther than the last tourney, I have a feeling only a handfull will make it past NM baal.

you know, funnily enough, i didn't really feel too bad about dying. I knew it was going to happen sooner or later, and heck an under powered lvl 57 with self found gear was always going to have it tough.

ok i'll send in my stash, 95 items, including 45 green and golds, a few nice yellows and blues and a 15 ias 8 res all charm.

Tough break Shermo. But Madmaxxam is probably right.... not too many will make it to Hell, so you will likely get your stash or at least parts of it back anyway.

As for me, just a little progress today. Kelvin killed the summoner and read the journal at lvl 21, then went to the canyon WP. He then went back to the maggot lair to get the staff, and completed the horodric staff.

Now it's off to fight little D!

I decided it would be too sad to stop with 3 points left so I decided to roll up another character. Enter Leela the Assasin. With no points left for rerolls and my hopeless attempts at low level play I decided to play this one at players 8 in the hope that I might get some useful skills earlier and maybe some items. Haven't made much progess as yet.

Leela Level 7 Assassin
Waypoint 1 - Level 1
Quest 1 - Level 5
Quest 2 - Level 7

Skills
Psychic Hammer 3
Tiger Strike 3
Fists of Fire 1

Rerolls Left 0

Shermo: if you look at the rules you don't HAVE donate anything, you just don't get a pick if you don't donate. i.e. donate means willing donations.

Anyway, haven't been able to play too much... dang real life.. but here's my update

lvl 18 Dry Hills wp
lvl 18 Dead halls wp
lvl 19 Far Oasuis wp

P.S. Due to that real life thing, Goltar will update score sheets later tomorrow.

Quick update from me.

Decided to go to /players1 from the Jail WP in order to progress faster. Will be back up to /players8 for most of Act II.

A2/Q5: Level 23 (Duriel)

* * * * * *

Finally ! ! ! !

I went from thinking Level 19 was pretty good, to not being able to get past Duriel until now at Level 23. Each time I went down to him, he would zap me so fast that I knew I had to get out, or life would be over.

So I did some Blood Raven and Andariel runs letting the Merc move up and "hoping" to get a weapon that was more to my level (20's) versus the Level 12 weapon I have been using. Was not having any luck.

Added the Pit in the Tamoe Highlands to the runs because my brother said that he usually gets at least some kind of set item or unique; but didn't know if it would work with Normal. I wasn't getting anything useful.

Then tonight it happened, I ended up getting a shield from Hsarus? set. Since I am an Amazon, I was not exactly impressed; I don't use shields.

Then it dawned on me that I am wearing the belt from that set. That makes 2 pieces. I need to go check the set bonus list to see if the bonus would be worth it to wear and change weapons. Sure enough, it would increase my defense tremendously and also give me a chance to block. Trouble is weapon choice. As an Amazon, the spear is what I have been using but the skill JAB is actually only 1 point different than the regular hit (strange how that works), so weapon choice is quite ok to use anything to get over this hump. I used the Bow on occassion in some areas to stay out of harms way; but I only got Fire Arrow to Level 3 tonight which meant I used Magic Arrow previously. Everything pointed to keep using the spear as it did the most damage for the time until something changed. Finding the shield changed the way I viewed how to tackle Duriel.

I made a Steel runeword out of a crystal sword. Turns out it does more minimum damage than my spear, but less maximum damage. The speed of the sword though is faster than my spear and the bonuses outweigh it. Thus I used the shield and a sword on an Amazon.

Merc died in the battle, but I kept going blow to blow with Duriel even though I was frozen most of the time. I am glad that part is over. Now I can go onward to the midgets. I am going back to the spear for now (at least I think so as I just now got to the next act) and see how it goes. My next skill will be in the next level and I am hoping to get something USEFUL.

This is definately a weird tourney and is very hard to progress like you normally would when the random chance is all you have to get your skills. I thought Amazon and the Jab would be a great start, but so far it hasn't proved to be that good yet. My magic arrow is not as powerful as my jab, my fire arrow is now better than magic arrow, but still not as good as a jab, and the normal hit is still better than the jab. I just need some form of offense to develop.

@Condor:

In your situation, I would have chosen the Hsaru´s combination (or a Bone Shield of Deflecting) and used Jab with the best javelin I could shop/find/gamble. Speed is important when jabbing, but has to be weighed against the bigger damage of Pilums/Short Spears in melee (compared to the faster Javelins) so it can be a tough choice.

Also, don´t be concerned about the damage display for Jab. It´s the rapid "three-fast-hits" thing along with the low mana cost and the possibility to use a shield (if you go with javelins) that is the strength of this skill.

You got me thinking  now, I forgot that I could use the javelin which can be used 1-handed. I will keep my eyes for javelins; this may prove 'useful' now with a shield.

As you can tell, I have never played a javelin/spear Amazon before. It's not like I get a choice in skill selection. A little jab, a little magic arrow, a little fire arrow; I am hoping I don't get cold arrow as my next skill. I really need ONE of these offenses to take priority soon.

Thanks for the tip!

This was the Ugliest Act III map I've ever played.

Basically I could stand on the Flayer Jungle Waypoint and see Great Marsh and Spider Forest waypoints on my map. But all three were so far from anything useful that it just stunk. Plus I hardly needed to go to the great marsh, there was a two-screen pathway that led from Great Marsh to Flayer Jungle. Lam Esen's tome was NOT in the Ruined Temple (that's a first for me) and I just realized I still don't have it. Sewers Level One would have ticked off many players (I was fine, since the map didn't have Horadrim Ancients I just cleared the whole thing), since the Stairs were somewhere near the middle. Durance 2 was an ideal running map, but Normal Mephisto is not worth running, and considering what happened in the Bazaar, I wouldn't want to anyway.

Basically, I got surrounded by two packs of minion Zakarumites, with 2 champion Cantors (one Teleportation, one CE), and a pack of Champion Thrashers. After batting everything surrounding me down, I "Alt" and there's a gold Morning Star on the ground. Woot! This one's my weapon, and the Skewer is for my HC grail, I guess. After hunting down the Teleporter, I checked the ground and was rewarded with a Sparking Mail! On the same section. <1 screen apart. And yet 30 Hell Andy runs turned up a bunch of chippies, an Eld rune, and a Bloodthief.

Scores:
Great Marsh-22
Flayer Jungle-22
Lower Kurast-22
Kurast Bazaar-23
Upper Kurast-23
Travincal-23
Durance 2-24

Gidbinn-23
Khalim's Will-24
Blackened Temple-24
The Guardian-24

New skill-Rabies (4 rerolls used total)

I want Fury!!!

Just now entering Act IV now of course since finishing Mephisto. I was a bit bummed when my next random skill was Cold Arrow; the one I really didn't want. But I only have 7 rolls left (used 3 to start over) so am trying to save them. My skills look like a 'little bit' of everything, and not enough of one thing to take a stronghold. I am kind of a jack-of-all-trades right now. I suppose it is working though.
