Lighting Sorc

Re: Lighting Sorc

Warmth: 1
Frozen Armor: 1
Chilling Armor: 1
(people may disagree, but you will often be in close for Charged Bolt if that is something you enjoy using)

----------------

Charged Bolt: 20
Static Field: 1
TK: 1
Nova: 1
Lightning: 20
Chain Lightning: 20
TP: 1
Thunder Storm: 1
Energy Shield: 1
Lightning Mastery: 20
===================
Total skill pts - 89
(with 12 skills from missions, means its good at level 78)

Dump the rest in whatever makes you happy. The emergence of synergies makes a ton of differences in Sorc builds now, so note that. I don't think that much of Nova (except for as a synergy) nor Thunderstorm, but ymmv. Warmth, TK, TP, and Ch.Armor are one point wonders. I do like Charged Bolt (unlike many here), mainly because it doesn't have the wild fluctuation of dmg that the others have, and with a good FCR, you can spam the hell out of it doing tremendous dmg to mobs, which is a sight to see.

For the build above, you keep up your defensive skills and then fight according to your enemy. For most mobs, a Chain Lightning followed by a spam of CB is sufficient. For tougher mobs, Chain Lightning and then Lightning.

Note that with an Infinity runeword equipped merc (NM Act 2, for Holy Freeze) will give a decent -LR that could probably break most immunes making you one tough cookie. Having max'd block couldn't hurt either, I get nervous about playing with CB since its most effective close up, where you're likely to get hit once in awhile.

Re: Lighting Sorc

I used to have an ES lightning sorceress, and she was built rather bad.. Unless you have really nice gear, I suggest you go for a less critical build - mine only worked because I had infinity on my merc, together with a few nice runewords on me (kill me if I remember, 3 years ago..).

I too used to think chainlightning is the main killer, but Lightning was actually a lot more useful when you level up. If I remember correctly, lightning doesnt get stopped the same way CL does - it hits a number of enemies and gets dissipated, even when heavily maxed. Pair lightning with a fast cast rate and its a lot of fun :)

The build above this post looks solid :). I'm planning to do another lightning sorceress, however I dont see a point without Infinity :D.

PS Thunder storm is rather bad. You could take an editor and make a single player char and try out the different skills :).

Re: Lighting Sorc

Forgot about the Ice Bolt and Ice Blast prereqs for Shv Armor. That would take you out to lvl 80. The difference between Frz and Shv armors might not be worth 3 skill pts, but I definitely recommend getting one of them.

Re: Lighting Sorc

Honestly find something that has + shiver to it and just swap your weapons cast the armor and then swap back to your original gear. I really do not think those armors are worth the skill points when you can just get them off items. Especially when you consider how diablo 2 is such a min/max game (at least in my opinion).

This is what I'm doing as I'm plowing through normal with my new sorc. Find a +1-3 shiver armor staff and just swap it in and out. Saves you at least 1 skill point that can be put to better use elsewhere.

Kinda late for that now. Wasted one point in frozen armor already. :(

At first I wanted to go all CB, but I've become fond of CL. Now I use them both. CL is good for mobs, and CB does well for stronger creatures and bosses.
My worry is hell though. What kills lighting immunes if you don't? Is there -resistance to lightning items?
I've seen Infinity, but thats like yeah right. 2 Ber 1 Ist and one Mal. HAHA :(

yes you can break immunities with infinity runeword weapon - ber, mal, ber, ist -

you will have a very difficult time in hell without infinity as a pure light sorc.

Yes its quite hard in some areas, but at least Baal(2-4pl), Pits(full game), Nihlathuk(1-2pl)and Arcane(full game) Eld/Shenk(full game) are quite easy. Couple of immunes in those areas, but merc can kill those nicely.
And worldstone lvl2 and 3 are sometimes lightning immune free.

I leveled mine up to 85 in arcane (full games), then next 3 lvls in full game pits. Now doing mainly just baal and dkey.

No anni, torch, skillers, sojs, arach yet, so lightning damage is only 16k so far, but that kills nicely enough in those areas. Gaze, Reapers/Insight act2 merc with aldurs armor. Armor goes away as soon as I found decent one.

Re: Lighting Sorc

I checked, he counted with a lvl 17 vs a lvl 36 ts.

Also, akse, do you know what stone of jordan and arachnids mesh, spirit and insight etc. Even if you don't use all of them, they will still provide you with enough mana to get along without taking mana pots too often. Nova sorcs and lightning sorcs are completely different classes.

Re: Lighting Sorc

Synergies are super-important nowadays. Synergy-heavy skills (like the lightning skills) need to be synergized, or else the monsters in hell will laugh at you. Thunderstorm has no synergies, and has been rendered useless. I would recommend not a single point. Warmth and static field are both one-point wonders, and +skills will boost them to a points hwere it's not worth it to boost hem any further. For your build, the modern pure lightning build is:

1 warmth
1 shiver armor
1 static field
1 telekenisis
1 teleport
20 chain lightning
20 lightning
20 lightning mastery
20 chared bolt
Rest in nova

Ok I have scanned these forums for a light sorc build and I like this one. The last time I had a light sorc was 5 yrs ago and that was in .08. Synergies is something that my .08 sorc didn't have and my main characters have been pallys since.

My question though is in what order would you max these skills? My sorc is about lvl 26 and I've already put 1 point in teleport, telekin, warmth, static field and thunderstorm. I have roughly equal points in CB, LT and CL. Around 6-7 in each so far. I have come to accept that my baby sorc has a drinking problem at the moment since she is too small for decent gear so I really have to put my points in the right place so that I can live!

I play on NL East PVM (no interest in dueling). Spirit shield sounds great but until I obtain one I think I will use my spare Stormshield and COH. I have Treks and Shako already. I have tried using an OCCY in the past and couldn't stand the teleport feature. Not that I mind teleport but I like to control when I use it. I have a HOTO already but I may try to get an ES. I'll def need to get a decent belt with fcr and mana regen. I have magefists and trangs already. Still need to get a decent ammy for sorc and rings. Gear can always be interchanged depending on MF or just rushing, etc...

My other question is regarding how much str so I can use my SS. My net can be unstable at times and I don't want to be gear dependant on my str bc re-equipping in the appropriate order can be a *****. I also don't want to waste alot of space on small charms when I want to leave room for lifers, mfsc, skillers and torch when I get them.

I would appreciate as much advice as possible as I am such a sorc newbie.

Thanks!

Darkravensor
