Last Wish Vs Death For Frenzy Barb (Berserker Axes)

Please sum up pros, cons, any ideas.

My frenzy bar currently is using Beast BA main hand, Death BA offhand.


I've been contemplating switching to Last Wish BA for offhand instead of death.

This switch is mainly due to LW's Life tap and fade, I figure that would come in really handy on ubers. Also the might aura would allow me to use blessed aim or defiance merc.

Death is a really good runeword though and I'd lose the deadly strike and mana leech. What I've decided so far is lastwish is probably more of a PvM weap, where as death would be better for PvP situations.

Anyone have any advice? Last Wish is expensive as hell not sure if I want to pay the price to get it. But being in hardcore I think the life tap (don't want to use dracs) would make a huge difference against ubers.
 
LW is awesome for ubers

(life tap ~ 70% CB)

^^pretty much invaluable against ubers.

It's not really needed outside of fighting ubers though, although still good I think there are better options, ebotd, death, beast, doom.

there all good though, all choices are good.
 
ive been using lastwish for while doing ubers, and cant argue about its usefulness, tho on normal runs (baals, messing with friends,) id rather use indestructible weapon...
 
Is it true that nightmare offensive merc (at highest aura) gets a level 29 might aura?


Wondering if switching to a blessed aim merc and using last wish for might aura would take a great hit to my damage...since LW is only level 17
 
NM might mercs get lv20 might at 99 (or something like 97-99 forgot)

My guess is hitting the monster and triggering CB is more important than higher damage. Think about it, you practically rely on CB for the first 99% of the ubers life anyway, and hitting more often would help you finish off the uber when u get them down to a sliver of life....thats my guess tho.
 
Note: Max level on merc is 98.
LW is good for ubers, and if you focus on Ubers themselves (i.e. not chasing minions) the weap won't break (1-2 players). LW allows for one of the safest tristram setup, I currently use it.
Death is far better option in general pvm (but you need Drac). Or save Ort runes.

If you are HC...I really see no point in using LW in pvp, or Death, most duelers on the boards prefer Beast/Grief or other setups...Well, I do not see the point of using a Frenzy barb in pvp in the first place...but that is just me.

Both last wish and death are not suited for pvp

Reasons why death is better than last wish for frenzy pvm (frenzy pvp doesn't work because near impossible to namelock at frenzy running speeds)

- indestructible --> huge damage bonus
- deadly strike --> last wish has none
- death only has 10-20 less CB than last wish
- mana leech --> very handy for pvm allowing you to use dual ravens instead of manald + raven
- barbs are limited in worthwhile glove choices --> steelrends are too heavy which leaves you with dracul's or laying of hands, and dracul's has the lifetap you need for frenzy (laying of hands win for pvm whirlwind)
- you don't need fade, you should have a minimum of 3k+ life after battle orders already
- might merc = worthless aura on last wish, take the concentration from "pride" and put it on last wish instead and give pride some other powerful aura instead
- you don't need blessed aim for pvm frenzy, arreat's + beast main hand (fanat) + dual ravens + a few AR charms + demon limb prebuff will give plenty of AR against the level 110 ubers/sub-ubers
- you don't need defiance for pvm frenzy, your defense won't even exist when you are running
- SIX high rune cost (mal/ist = hr on east ladder) for JUST those mods on last wish? Blizzard likes making us laugh don't they?

and once again many people keep forgetting that death itself has plenty of crushing blow when combined with duress + gores against ubers
 
1) Mana -burn monsters, or Baal's mana-burn attack.

2) I doubt barbs would want to carry mana pots, or chug their rejuvs (its an ego thing, lol).

3) DS requires no mana.. but you wouldn't want to use it against baal, etc.
 
Why not? Double swing is a great against bosses.

Also, I don't know about you but the mana burn from baal tends to just go over top my barb.
