Ladder Season 2 Low Level Item Fund
NOTE: This thread will inevitably get incredibly long. (last one was 376 posts) So when it starts getting long, please read this post and the last page of posts. I will have melianor update this post with any relevent information that needs to be included.
BACKGROUND: Ever notice how it seems like everyone starts the game by creating an mf char then doing mf runs 2 hours a day so they have enough gear to trade for or find anything they want? Ever wonder what happens to the gear they find that they don't want but is still good, if only for new characters?
We are trying to collect that garbage to distribute and/or save for someone who wants it or when it is needed to complete a set.
HOW: it works like this:
There is a mule account (or 2) set up on each of the major realms that you would expect to find on this site (east, west, Europe).
There are a handful of people who know the password to the accounts. All accounts have the same password so anyone who knows the password can access any of the other accounts on the other realms.
STATUS: Currently we have two accounts on east, west, and europe realm. 01 was the characters from ladder season 1 and is now non-ladder storage. 02 is from ladder season 2 and is current ladder storage. In ladder season 1 there were a couple of Asia players who offered to give items to new players. I lost contact with them.
Jackson donated a few accounts full of non-ladder items on USWEST. (Account names listed below)
There are currently a handful of people that know the password to the accounts including: myself (play on east, run west and part time on europe), sasja(europe), melianor(europe).
DONATING/COLLECTING: We have experimented with several ways and have concluded that these are the most effective ways that are still relatively low maintenance (because I’m not getting paid for this).
1) Contact one of active administrators for this account. Contact them any way possible (instant messenger services, forum private messages, in game messaging).
I personally have 3 instant messenger services listed. I primarily use AOL IM, but I will have the other 2 online as much as possible. Last time I ended up shouldering most of the requests and I don’t want to intrude on anyone else. So the only way I can say for sure something will get done is if you contact me.
2) The other way is by leaving your account name here in this thread. These Account names will be added to the friends list in the specific realm. I will try to log onto the fund once every few days and see if anyone who left their account name is online.
This way is less sure of results. Keep in mind the friend’s list only holds 25 accounts (more names than that requires juggling).
2 TYPES OF COLLECTING:
1) Specific needs: ie, you need isenharts sword to complete the set. The item fund doesn’t have an inventory list somewhere. And it is limited in items, so chances are we won’t have it (but we will look on the off chance). But, by saying you need it in this thread we can do 2 things. Keep an eye out for it, and it will be posted. So, if someone has one lying around, they can give it to you directly.
2) "I'm using horrible gear. HELP!!!!": This is much easier to remedy because in general if your asking, you can be helped. We won't always have that one set item that is needed, but we will have items.
ITEM QUALITY/QUANTITY: As far as what gets donated, it’s entirely up to the donators. Low level set items, decent rares, str/dex charms, basic uniques and things of that quality are what I expect to get. We would like to get some decent mid-level equipment (some of the high level set items, low % vipermagi and other good uniques). This was because we found level 80 sorceresses using… well… lets just leave it at bad items.
There was a bit of argueing about what items should be donated. While it may be a "low-level item fund," better items are welcome. I tend to save the better items for the donators when they need them.
As far as giving away is concerned, the rule of thumb I use is one item per item slot. A character has no use for 2 helms other than trading purposes and that isn't what this is about. This system is crude, but I found it to work. We didn’t run out of items last time. For the quality of items, it’s a judgment call for who is giving the items. This may seem unfair, but its simple and anything different would take way too much work.
