Infinity runeword for Blizard Sorc

Hi

I know that it is some kind of waste because cold mastery turns a cold resistance of no cold immunes to zero but if i am right conviction aura will brake imunities and then cold mastery will reduce reamaining resists. So that are my questions :

Is that true that conviction breaks immunity to cold ??

If first answer is yes then :

After the immunity is broken will cold mastery reduce remaining resists ??

If so is blizzard sorc with conviction the only realy unstopable sorc ??

Please answer me (and i hope that i am right :) )

yes it will break immunities but it wont break many immunes because of the immunes base resistances being higher than 117 to cold.

The immunes that do break will then be effected by mastery.

Unstoppable id say yes because infinity is a mean polearm anywayz

Id rather put them on lightning sorcs

A cold sorc is probably the worst candidate for infinity. Because cold mastery lowers resists, monsters generally have much higher cold resists than they do other elements. Even cold immune zombies in Act 1 Den have 120 cold resist in hell that won't get broken.

For monsters that are not CI, cold mastery is probably already lowering monster cold resistance to well below zero, so you won't notice that much of a difference.

If you're rich enough to buy/make infinity, go with a CL/FO build.

So then I don't see how combined with conviction and CM training you can't lower the resists back to zero. All you'd need is a few ranks in CM and a few +skills and you can get it way below zero.

Unless I'm not doing the math right.

infinity is terrible against cold immunes. conviction and lower resist are the only -res% skills that affect immunes. (cold mastery never affects immunes). but they only affect immunes at 1/5 strength. so lvl12 conviction (from infinity) normally gives -85% resist, but against immune monsters it only works for -17%. this means that the immune monster must have less than 117% cold resist for infinity to break its immunity. go to arreat summit and look up cold resistances for hell cold immune monsters: most of them have something like 120, 130, 150 cold resist

That's only if you have enough CM to lower resistances another 100%, what if you have more CM? With +16 to all sorc skills, and 1 point in CM, you're already at that so if you pump CM a few more points I don't see how an infinity merc on a cold sorc or a cold hybrid sorc is terrible.

I think you didn't get the math. Cold mastery won't affect cold immunes, that means it will not lower any resistance of 100+% resist monsters. Conviction can do that but only at 20% of its efficiency. As the Conviction from Infinnity is lvl 12=85%*0.20=17. That means it would work only with 116% resist monsters. If he has 116-17=99, then cold mastery start to work. But very, very few monsters will have only 116, most have at least 130. 130-17=113, which is still unaffected by CM...
A Paladin with full conviction (-150%) could break some more, but still no one higher than 129.
Lightning immunes on other hand, have only 100, at most 110%, which means they can be brought to 83-93%.
