Looks a bit low but try it and see. You have to make those initial kills to start your chain of chain lightnings!

I have 3k ar while hitting hell baal. Conviction helps so much that no problems hitting baal, around 90% chance to hit.

I tested that chain in norm cows, couln't even there get enough kills with chain lightning from infy. Only one synergy and lvl37 L-mastery, so that chain is weak. I think its still weak with full synergies, maybe it kills in act1 nmare but not hell viable.

To get enchant or not?
I have 140-1673 (665 ar) damage with infy-thresher and after enchant
11k-14k (3.1k ar). And even higher, if using fire-skillers.

And in Wereform you'd miss out some cool sorc skills, namely Nova, Teleport and Telekinesis :P

Quite a bit melees would kill to have a handy tele... just look at those telezons and sins with DFlight.

I'm pretty sure a level 20 Chain Lightning with maxed synergies and a good lightning mastery with conviction and the other -whatever lightning res from infinity would do well in hell. It'd be about 1-5000 damage before conviction.

Mine was 10-2943 while I tested. But its hard to get it triggered often enough. Even at norm cows (lots of easy monsters), it was on like once per 2 seconds.
That low min damage kills build.
Didn't see any chain reaction either.
(-54 and conviction here). Maybe need to test more, maybe in hell Pits or hell Arcane, those are easy areas and only few lightning immunes.

Yes!!! Drool , slobber. I see you went with AR instead of resists on your new one!

i figure the higher defense armor is more suited for dueling melee

Since i'm dueling melee, resists aren't very useful. More AR to hit high defense melee opponents is more useful.

I am currently resocketing it with 100ar jewels :)

I saw that Wisp Projector has a 10% chance to cast level 16 Lightning on striking. Well, with already maxing Nova and Charged Bolt, that Lightning could doing 1-5000 ish damage. I was thinking about wearing one or even two if I can find cannot be frozen somewhere else in my gear (any suggestions?)

With 1 wisp projector, I'd have it going off every few seconds, and with 2, it would come out even more. Could help in crowd control.

I was also thinking Last Wish for fighting bosses. Ill have charged bolt's synergy almost fully maxed, as well as lightning mastery of course, so the charged bolts and crushing blow would help a lot. I'd hand the infinity over to the merc.

Haha ya, problem is there's like nother part of gear I want to sacrifice. I want Dream helm for the extra few thousand lightning damage, and nosferatu to get to 10fpa

How often was the chain lightning occuring and did it seem to ever kill monsters on its own and start new chain lightnings?

How often did the lightning from Wisp Projector seem to happen?

Basically, the difference is two ctc lightnings instead of one, and lifetap. But 11 fpa as opposed to 10 fpa.

Do you think 2.27 attacks a second will be that much worse than 2.5 attacks a second?

On average, with the first setup, a lighting would occur about every 4 seconds, and with the second setup, every 2.2 seconds. And then i would have lifetap


(I will use charms to hit fhr breakpoints (I think i can get the 86 one), resists, life/mana, and +lightning skills)

(I want Fortitude for the physical damage)

It happens quite often, but seems that (not sure *) I need to actually kill monster by hitting with thresher to trigger that chain lightning.

And Wisp, as I was using 14fpa, that didn't trigger often, but surely that 10% as listed in ring.

I am used to clear Hell pits in full games half this time, with this sorc, thats why no ias, as merc kills those random ones that survive novas.



*) 1.Weak synergies and huge range from 10-3000, so hard to actually notice if its real happening
2. I tested this earlier with norm cows, even there I didn't notice. And there that chain was good enough to kill monsters.
3. Obedience has similair effect, but caster need to attack with it to trigger enchant, just killing monsters while holding it don't work.

Arreat Summit www-site down, so can't look if its same text in those two runewords. That poison nova triggers new novas, odd that these don't give same effect. Need to test more to make sure.





Little comment for those items. One option is Death belt+Gloves for 30ias and cannot frozen, but only 2 row in that belt.

Thanks for the testing. The death's combo is interesting. I don't know if could handle only 2 lines on my belt though.

Just for the record, I want to hit about 3200 max lightning damage to attack from Holy Shock (before conviction). And hopefully 4000ish max physical damage. So my melee damage to single target will be pretty solid. Then with lightning going off from Wisp Projectors every couple seconds, and chain lighting half the time an enemy dies, I think this sorc can go through hell.

Obviously I could just cast lightning or chain lightning, but where is the fun in that? A bear mauling the crap out of people forcing wild lightning to go off everywhere is way cooler. I plan to listen to Metallica's ride the lightning while playing.


it'll be a while before I actually get around to this character though. I actually need to get all that gear lol

Okay which setup do you think looks better?

Definitely, definitely the 2nd one: I'm pretty sure you're going to need Lifetap to survive for more than about 0.2 seconds in the middle of a Frenzytaur pack.

One caveat related to this though: I think you'll need to ditch Dream. Sure, it'll add ~3000 damage per attack, but it's also going to be casting Confuse all the time, overriding your Lifetap and possibly getting you killed. Without it, you can also use a better helm and stuff.

I think my personal gear setup would be:
Infinity Thresher (obviously)
Treachery (Solves IAS issue and provides high resists)
Griffon's Eye (With AR jewel: more damage and more consistent damage)
Metalgrid (More AR, more defense, and more resists)
Dracul's (Need that Lifetap)
Trang Belt (CBF and some other good mods)
2x Wisps (More CtC damage potential)
IK Boots (More AR and life)

This is a really cool idea you've got going here. I'd like to see what comes of it.

Thanks LordC. I like your setup, but it seems like then my damage to one target would be small. No Holy shock damage, and without fortitude, the only damage booster to my phsycial attack would a little bit from fanat and a little bit from werebear. And I'd have to be able to kill the first couple monsters for the chain lightnings to start shooting out.

Defensively, I will have werebear/lycanthropy for more life/defense, chilling armor if I wear fortitude, energy shield, cyclone armor from Infinity, near max resists and 86% fhr (with the right charms), 40% lightning resists from the Wisp Projectors, and then the lifetap from draculs. And I'll probably have a CtA too, which is kind of annoying to have it in the inventory and put it on cast BC and BO, put back on Beast, cast Werebear, then switch weapons, but its probably worth it.

When you are in werebear, you adopt werebear's FHR, regardless of your class.

Very interesting build, hope you keep working on it.
