I Need Help Getting on BNET

Does your regular internet browser work? Not even sure what the problem might be, but it might have to do with just unpluging yer cable from 1 comp and plugging it into another. I know that if I unplug my modem from the router and just plug it directly into my comp, i need to restart; however that doesnt seem to be what it happening. So I am kinda clueless as to what is causing both WoW and D2 it not connecting.

My broadband connection has a router between my comp and the modem, as i had 4 comps sharing my internet conn. Works fine for me, so it may just be your ISP or whatnot. Again I am not sure, its just guesses at this point in time :(

EDIT: just a thought, have you tried resetting your modem after you switch the cables? I have no idea if you use Cat5 or USB to connect your modem, I assume USB becuz you said you just unplug it and plug it back in. I'm totally clueless, like I've said before; try those suggustions and get back to me.

gogo edit button, just had an idea, if its possible try to get one of those 'free' dialup accts just to see if d2/WoW works with your new comp when using dialup. Also you could try to reset your bnet gateways, not sure if they got corrupted or something: Linky

Hope this helps

-sigh- WoW worked on my other computer, i had this same ISP at my old house. D2 and LOD worked fine. I havnt tried to actually reset the modem yet because im unsure of the password for the earthlink account. My mind is still blankin on that cords name, but its the thicker cord in the modem, i have a sprint 645 series modem w/ highspeed earthlink connection. Games like RuneScape work fine, i have downloaded and installed the patch for D2, it still sits at checking versions. I have also deleted the battle.net registrys and put them back in via the file you can get from www.battle.net . -sigh- , i hope some one can help me out.

*oh* i have also returned my old copy of diablo2, and LOD, and exchanged for a new one. I still have the EXACT same problem. It MUST be my internet connection. And i had never unplugged the modem the first time i tried installing. I hooked up this other computer in hopes that it would work.

GAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some one PLEASEEEEEEEE help, this is so irritating, i miss diablo :(

-edit- Heh, i remeber the cords name :) its the EtherNet Cable.

*sigh* This is gunna sound redundant, but have you *TRIED* dialup to see if it works? There is nothing else i can think of that might cause it. I've never had something like this happen before. Another thing, is it only once realm, like west, east, both? Have you tried posting on bnet forums also? They may have stuff to try that I havent even thought about :)

BTW: a hard reset of the modem doesnt reset the acct/password info that is stored on your computer. All you are doing is powering it off for like 2 mins then powering it up again.

Hope this helps

How do i setup a free Dialup connection ?

- I cant post on Diablo's BNET, i havnt gotten as far as setting up an acount.
- I thought you meant to ACTUALLY reset the modem....as in sticking the pin in the little hole

Yes there was a need for me to point that out, as double posting aka post bumping is prohibited on these forums.

Being that i made a mistake, and acknowledged it, was there really any need to re-acknowledge it? I know not to double post or bump post as i visit forums alot. I just made a mistake

So now, was there really any reason for you to bring it back up after it was dead? When ive not actually done nething wrong? I acknowleded my mistake and apologized, and did not need it done again. Please stop going off topic

I responded to your post, this one here :

That post didnt really help me any, i acknowledged my mistake and was there really any need for you, aragorn, to do that. But some one please help me out, theres gotta be somewere here in this community that can help me.

You may have known that you did something wrong and apologized or admitted that it was wrong, but as a moderator it is my job to point out something wrong when I feel the need to.

Some people in the past have continued to double post even after being warned not to, when that happens, it leads us mods to begin thread closings and other forms of action beyond simple warnings.

And it was not dead like you say, you responded to a post of mine, and I replied to that. So you are the one keeping it going.

And one last thing, when I have something to post that is relevant to the topic or off topic, I will post it.

So do not tell me "to please stop going off topic" when I feel there is a need to do so.

This discussion between you and myself in this thread is over. If you have any comments or questions, feel free to send me a PM.

I was reading through your posts, and you didn't mention what realm you are using (your last post seems to indicate us.east). Does the "checking versions" message stay there for all realms?

You haven't had any mods or anything installed, have you? The reason I'm asking is because they might have modified your server list, so you might want to try and telnet to one of the realms by following the instructions at http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0631p

You'll need a valid username and password to enter, so I've created a an account on east for you (but it's not permed, so it'll expire soon). I've sent you a PM with the username and password.

Failing that, I would probably recommend doing a traceroute, so we can see where the data is actually stopping. More information on that can be found at http://www.blizzard.com/support/?id=adt0631p2

As a note: The open technical forum requires any Blizzard key & account, so your WoW account *should* work (http://www.battle.net/forums/board.aspx?ForumName=opensupport).

OK, ill try a different realm, here is my tracert--

Ugh, I think I might know of your problem. I remember hearing about that Earthlink gives it's customers some sort of free program, called Surfmonkey or something. You might want to check if you got it installed, and if so, remove it. It'll stop you from connecting to bnet....

Edit: Sorry for the double post, I thought I had clicked edit, but it seems I clicked reply to my own post.

Since this is a new computer, many store bought cpu's come with norton or macafee preinstalled, with a firewall. That is a nother thing to check. If you built your CPU, disregard this post.

This comp was custom built, ive already checked everything, 2 more hours and i can call blizzard

your in for a long wait if you want live support. Blizzard's tech support isnt really that great. Emailing would be better or you can try posting this problem in other forums for more help.

hmm surfmonkey??? ill look around...but ive never heard of that

Well, you can check to see if it's installed by seeing if the process "smproxy.exe" is running. If it is, run msconfig and remove it from the startup tab (it should have an address something like c:\windows\surfmonkey\smproxy.exe) . I'm don't think it'll be in the add/remove programs. Make sure you restart the computer afterwards, and delete the Surfmonkey directory.

If this isn't the problem, and you do get in contact with a Blizzard support, and he does help fix it, make sure you post the solution here :). It'll be nice to know for the future.

i assume the following ports are open???
ports 6112 TCP and 4000 TCP must be open to play on battle.net

yes i read that but it doesn't hurt to check...i honestly can't think of anything else you guys have covered just about everything it could be

actually it looks like he has his problem solved and didn't take the time to pop back in and tell us

he is asking for a hack to get his expired characters back here

Ugh.. That's a disappointment, sort of :/ If I'd known he was like that, I probably would never had posted in this thread :/
