I know this is the SPF, but about B.Net content...

I've been playing around a bit in 1.00, having fun with raw Whirlwind. After deeding my only mid-level character, I'm at an impasse that has had me stuck for a couple weeks.

I want goodies from 1.07. This means another restart, in a patch I'm not versed in, grinding and grinding and basically a whole new career. I don't mind it at all, I just haven't made it past the campfire screen yet. I think I'm overwhelmed. Put 1.07 back on the back burner.

1.09 doesn't really offer me much.

1.10 beta patches. Basically re:1.07, just not as hard since it's basically the current metagame, which is easy as pie.

1.13. Weeeeeee. Still going to be doing a restart (although I have a stash in my inbox of donated items from a good friend here ;)) but I can't get started, while thinking to myself "Why not do a fresh start in an older patch now, and just forward when it's time to play some 1.13?"

Pretty much the only thing left is the Über content, which I have NEVER experienced. I remember playing 1.10 on the realms for a couple weeks, and seeing the SoJ counter. but never knew what it was.

(title) I know this is the SPF, but I know and feel comfortable around you here. How hard is it to get to the Übers untwinked solo, and is it possible to best them? Is it even likely to see a Dclone these days? I know some of you have played on the realms, I'm looking for your guidance. Über content is basically the only thing I haven't played, and I want to. How do I get there?

Edit: Just tried to play on my terrible DSL connection, and wow. So much lag I died to an invisible Fallen in the Blood Moor. Why did I even bother? haha.

With the ladder reset bnet is quite busy and I'm even getting a bit of rubber-banding with my ladder assassin. If your internet is that bad, you might need to wait for the initial new ladder excitement to die down a bit before giving it another go.

I guess it depends upon your definition of untwinked. Übers most definately can be done with all selffound items inside of a reasonable timeframe, but in my opinion it will require 2-4 characters for mf'ing, key-collecting etc., and you will most likely want a paladin 1-pt smiter for the actual übers themselves (though I suppose a druid with ribcracker is another cheap alternative). Having several accounts and helpful support characters such as a BO-barb will greatly speed up things and make the journey much safer; and also allow for quest dropping while mf-ing. I quite expect you to die several times during the collection of organs and while trying the actual übers themselves - these areas are very difficult the first few times until you get the handle on how to manouver them safely and which characters to use.
The first thing you will need is a faster connection though :). The übers spawn alot of minions very rapidly, and I doubt you will ever get close to killing them let alone getting the organs if you can't even play the Blood Moor.

Oh and there was a period with countless spawnings of DClone (when a duping method or bot or some such thing became available for everyone - and consequently the ladder more or less died), but I don't know if it still spawns on a regular basis. It isn't all that it is cranked up to be though - with a decently geared smiter, you will take down a clone in half a minute - if your game survives that is (many games crash when DClone spawns).
The übers however I can only recommend. Finishing them using all selffound gear is a fun undertaking and will be highly challenging (at least it was for me). Doing it all selffound with a friend is even more fun and quite a bit easier and quicker.

It's not real common for dclone to spawn if you're not actively looking for him. You have to check servers and such to have much chance.

The ubers can be quite rewarding though. Probably my bnet accomplishment I'm most proud of is doing the keys, organs, and ubers solo with my avenger in HC. I did use 2 accounts/computers to run a BO barb though.

It would take quite a bit to get geared up, at least self found. It's far more difficult to be self found on bnet.

The rewards of the übers are the reason I withheld from switching to Single Player for a long time, and is actually still something I miss dearly in SP.

In my limited Dclone hunting experience, this was before the mass spawning events, finding Dclone himself and secondly staying in a stable game were quite challenging.

About 6 seasons ago I used a javazon and hammerdin to hunt him, i.e.
>> checking active servers,
>> creating games with the right IP address (without getting temp banned :-(),
>> camping in the game (using the 'stash trick') for hours on end,
>> using multiple instances and accounts to have as much as 5 games open,
>> praying that the Soj counter would go up and most importantly,
>> praying that the game would not crash, 80% of my spawns the game crashed.

Iirc in about 1,5 month this resulted in 5 anni's.

Though at first I enjoyed hunting Dclone, after 1,5 month the systematic approach became boring.

Never (to my regret) did I try the Pandemonium event,..

Never (to my regret) did I try the Pandemonium event,..

Step 1: Convince logoutzero to get a better connection.
Step 2: Create a joined account with logoutzero and begin collecting goodies.
Step 3: Experience the event together with another one who hasn't tried it before (which is the very best way - especially if you're chatting on skype whilst playing. Expect to hear some interesting exclamations :D).

It's not about not wanting a better connection. Rural country DSL is the ONLY thing available. No cable, no fiber, even satellite won't service my address. Only 10mbps Century Link DSL which clocks in at a whopping .128mbps. And that's when it's actually up!

If you truly want a better connection to the internet, you have to ask yourself if you're putting in the effort to meet the internet's needs. Did you remember the internet's birthday, and celebrate with flowers? When the internet comes home after a long day of moving porn and gifs of kitties around, do you ask it about its day and really listen? It's a two way street, my friend.

That's great @Noodle! I started reading like "okay, master chef knows a DSL hack, awesome!" Here's to getting my hopes up!

@Cyrax I couldn't pass it up. 3x the house, on 3 acres, no code enforcement/cops/solicitors/et all, and for the same money I was spending before. There has to be something bad to balance out the universe, right?

What's funny about the whole thing, I told my wife when we first looked at the house that if they didn't have broadband cable there, I wasn't moving there, period. Called Time Warner, they said they did, I setup the move, they "transferred" my service, and 2 weeks later sent a tech out to my house to say "Oh yeah, we don't have service here."

That's good, you can always climb up there and give it a whack to reset it if it acts up.

The corporate media always lies...

Time Warner told my wife if we got 20 people to sign up, they would expand to our "neighborhood" as the nearest network box is less than a half mile away.

My wife is going door to door tomorrow. I hope she doesn't get shot by some of these hillbillies living around us.

[strike]Sprint[/strike] AT&T is the only carrier with a tower near us, and they are charging me $70/mo for 4gbits un-throttled, then drop to something like 2G. Haven't tried to Diablo with it, but I'm sure it doesn't use much data... Worth a try!
