Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

New to the forums, but thought I'd throw two potential builds I've thought up out there...

Disclaimer:
1) I've already perused the forums like a good n00b and hadn't come across this particular build yet.
2) The following characteristics are desired:
a) High survivability (I play HC only)
b) Awesome crowd control/area damage
c) untwinked/item-independent build
d) did I mention it needs to be different...and FUN!

So here it is:

Walk around and things just die build 1

Elemental Skills
Fire
Firestorm: MAX
Molten boulder: 1
Fissure: 1
Volcano: MAX
Armageddon: MAX

Wind/Cold
Arctic blast: 1
Cyclone armor: MAX
Twister: 1
Tornado: 1
Hurricane: 1

Shapeshifting Skills
Lycanthropy: 1
Wearbear: 1
Shockwave: 5
Fireclaws: 5 (or -5 shockwave and +5 to fireclaws)

Summoning Skills
Oak sage: 1
_____________________

So the build is "complete" at lvl 91. (Pour rest of points into oak sage?)
_____________________

Strategy
Cast cyclone armor and oak sage. Then get hurricane up, shift into wearbear and just walk around casting armageddon, stunning monsters with shockwave and slowing them down with Hurricane (note, hurricane is not used for damage here, simply for it's amazing cold slowing ability). For the weasels that get past your defenses, you fire claw them to death.

Walk around and things just die build 2

Elemental Skills
Fire
Firestorm: MAX
Molten boulder: 1
Fissure: MAX
Volcano: 1
Armageddon: MAX

Wind/Cold
Arctic blast: 1
Cyclone armor: MAX
Twister: 1
Tornado: 12
Hurricane: 1

Shapeshifting Skills
NONE

Summoning Skills
Oak sage: 1
Grizzly: 1 (or cut out summons, and put +4 on Tornado)

Strategy
Cast cyclone armor and oak sage. Then get hurricane up, and just walk around casting armageddon and fissure. When monsters get too close hit them with tornadoes. Use grizzly as a tank. Again hurricane is for slowly enemies down, not for damage.

Merc: Normal lvl Act 2 (defiance aura)

In sum...how do these builds sound? I know armageddon hits random and that frustrates alot of players, but literally, I want to be able to simply run around and things die (similar to the EXPENSIVE dragon paladin build). I know in Hell there's a motley crew of FI. But whatever, I'm thinking this could be a hella fun build. All comments/recommendations welcome!!

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

Hurricane barely slows in hell (chill duration too short). Armageddon is not really a great killer.

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

And there goes the error in my reasoning...Hurricane would be useless then? What about redirecting points like this:

Elemental Skills
Fire
Firestorm: MAX
Molten boulder: 1
Fissure: MAX
Volcano: 1
Armageddon: NONE

Wind/Cold
Arctic blast: 1
Cyclone armor: 10
Twister: 1
Tornado: MAX
Hurricane: MAX

Shapeshifting Skills
NONE

Summoning Skills
Oak sage: 1

Then build is finished at lvl 84, and finish up by pouring rest of points into either oak sage or fissure/tornado synergies

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

So correct me if I'm wrong on this, but Hurricane puts out a 2 second cold duration regardless of lvl...which means in hell its about .5 seconds, right?

Now, I've read elsewhere that cold damage charms and the eye of etlich can lengthen the cold duration of at least the amazon's cold arrow attack.

Would the same apply here? Could you boost the cold duration of Hurricane with cold charms?

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

You can't extend the chill duration of Hurricane by other sources of cold damage.

If you want to make a Fire/Wind hybrid, I'd max Fissure and Volcano, and Cyclone armor and Tornado. Hurricanes damage is not worth it.

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

Well. I've made a Hurricane & Geddon Bear during my time >.> But Hurricane & Armageddon... cool! BUT naw, I just don't see it being really effective.

Hurricane Build loaded up on the Wind tree with Stormlash/Rain, giving synergized twister, nado (~1500 damage), cyclone armor on top hurricane
Armageddon Build, the most recent I did loaded up on fire tree using Enigma, Destruction PB, Lower IK with synergized fire/elemental attacks on top 10k geddon.

The problem is they're really skill investive... you need like 70+ points in either tree to crank any damage out, since you're already shaving a lot of damage substituting Melee gear. The extra 40 seconds with lvl1 Hurricane doesn't seem like its worth the minor chill it adds every second, considering... for instance, for either build you already have shockwave and... if you were to go Just one or the other, you would already have synergized Volcanoes/boulders or synergized Twisters/nados which basically fill the "control" part for you.

Can someone back Stephan on this? I could've sworn I read that the eye of elitch increases cold duration for casted spells and not just melee damage.

_______________

On another note, what do you all think of a Fissure/Volcano/Hurricane hybrid?

Surely a boss killer - cast hurricane to chill and lengthen the duration the monster sits on your volcano...Fissure for quick AE damage...and again Volcano for those minions that break through your Hurricane/Fissure defense...not to mention Volcano does enough physical damage to (hopefully) ward off some FI.

Comments?

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

Disclaimer: I believe the build I am about to suggest does what the OP intended, however, the build is very expensive.

Skills
1 Arctic Blast
20 CA
20 Twister
20 Tornado
20 Hurricane
Rest Oak Sage

Gear
Helm: 1.) Rare Druid Pelt w/ +2 skills, +3 Hurricane, etc... socketed with cold
facets
2.) Rare Criclet w/ +2 skills, +30 FRW, etc... socketed with cold facets
3.) Nightwing's socketed with a cold facet

Armor: 1.) Jeweler's of the Whale socketed with 4x cold facets
2.) Enigma RW Dusk Shroud (mainly for the FRW)

Weapon: Doom RW in a one-handed axe or hammer
Shield: JMoD socketed with 4x cold facets

Switch Weapon: HOTO flail
Switch Shield: Spirit Monarch

Belt: Arachnid's Mesh

Gloves: Your choice

Boots: Aldur's Advance

Rings: Raven Frost, SoJ

Amulet: +2 Skills, +10 FCR, etc...

Charms: Skillers of Inertia, other small charms of inertia, torch, anni

Mercenary
Act 1 Rogue with a Harmony RW bow

Tactics
1.) Cast Hurricane and Cyclone Armor using HOTO and Spirit. Then switch weapons to get Holy Freeze and massive -CR% from Doom and cold facets. Commence to WALK (with JMoD you can go max block) around your slowed enemies (Holy Freeze helps here) with your high run/walk speed.

2.) Against CI you are a wind druid with HOTO and Spirit (note: you hit the 99 FCR breakpoint with the suggested gear) use Tornado.

The only way to increase Hurricane's cold length is to reduce resistance with Cold Resist -% from Lower Resist and Conviction, and -% to Enemy Cold Resistance.

Hurricane's 2 second (50 frame) cold length would be reduced to 0.48 second (12 frames) in Hell against CR 0%: since Hurricane applies cold damage and length every 20 frames, targets would need to be reduced to CR -67% or less to be continuously chilled.

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

If you want a build that walks around like that, do a modified FC Bear:

Firestorm: 10+
Fissure:1
Boulder: 20
Cano: 20
Geddon:20

75 Points used

Lycan: 1
WB: 1
FC: 10+
SW: 1+

14 (?) points used

Oak Sage: 1

2 Points used

This gives you good Geddon damage with customization for FC specced or Geddon Specced. Cast Geddon, walk around, SW, FC anything stupid enough to get close :D.

Question: does -% to Enemy Cold Resistance from rune words such as doom or ice work? Or do they simply reduce cold resist to the runed-weapon?

WOot~ good call with doom, Deeds...think I'm gonna try this build out!

-% ECR from rune words and other items applies to all the Druid's cold damage, so it applies to Hurricane (and Arctic Blast). :)

Re: Hurricane/Armageddon/Wearbear build?

Oh shot, I forgot something:

Since you already invested so much into strength, why not give the Earth Shifter Druid a try? It's heavily elemental focused and, aside from Hurricane, does what you want
