How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

So i have just got my ama to high level and now i am looking around and people are always talking about these godly circlets with 3os and 30%frw

i am wandering for things like these jewelers circlets where is the most effective place to farm for them and stuff like JMOD and are these place the same or does it need to be different places to farm different rares/magics?

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

Only magical tiaras and diadems can have 3 sockets while circlets and coronets as well as rares in general have a maximum of 2. The best way to get one like yours probably is to gamble coronets (not circlets) and you need a promotion to exceptional as well to have any chance at all. Picking them up is a good alternative and you shouldn't leave circlets and coronets on the ground. There are more good affix combinations than those with 3 sockets.

JMoDs have to be found. You cannot shop for monarchs and gambling would require a promotion of a kite shield to elite which is not very probable. You would have to invest a million or so just to see a single monarch being rolled up.

well ty for this has actually helped, now i understand more about gambling so where is the best place for me to repeatidly kill things to have the best chance to drop good magics?

Just hit the lvl85 areas: the pits, ancient tunnels, chaos sanctuary, world stone keep (4 best ones)

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

You'll need area runs with low or no MF (as MF makes it so that you get less rares and magics, in favour of more uniques and sets). Then it comes down to alvl and ilvl of the item you're looking for, to check what monsters can drop it (minimum mlvl). Then look for a place with lots of monsters with an mlvl close to the calculated one. In practice, it's only necessary to look at the highest ilvl/alvl you need and look up the corresponding minimum mlvl.

There's a link to an item generator tool somewhere that can tell you what monsters drop what items iirc.

edit:
I found the url to the calculator, but it's dead. Here you can find all about generating items though.

This is not how MF works. MF raises the odds for all magic items to drop. Magic items are blue ("magic"), yellow (rare), green (set) and gold (unique). Having no MF reduces the chances of all of these dropping, so you get more white and gray items.

It is somewhat true that you get less chance of getting a blue monarch with more MF because it can be rare or unique, but without MF it will probably just be a plain white one.

Charmes being the exception. They are not affected by MF, but I think more MF helps making a blue charm gold.

There's probably some ammount of MF that gives the highest chance of getting blues? I know going from 300 to 400 MF will drastically reduce the chance of getting blues in favour of uniques. Maybe no MF will indeed not be the best (as the chance for a white item is bigger), but with 400+ mf chances of finding a rare or magic are also small.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

The "less blues with more MF" thing applies ONLY to those monsters which cannot drop normal items (random uniques, superuniques, champions of various types, act bosses and all bosses except griswold and the smith [which CAN drop normal items for some reason])

I'd say the best place to farm these items would be the cow level with as high MF as possible, without drastically reducing kill speed. The reasoning would be:
- LOTS of monsters tightly packed in an open area
- No natural immunities
- High MF = high chance of blues from the normal cows
- It's fairly easy to make a quick and safe cowrunner. Much easier than an equally quick and safe pit runner with the same kind of MF. Only ecxeption I can think of is blizzy in AT, but that's only faster for TC87 items, and of the items mentioned, only Diadem is TC87. And even so, I'd wager a javazon with 400MF would find more blue diadems in the cow level over time than a blizzy would with any MF in the pits.

Blizzy in AT is still the easiest way to MF for TC87s, tho.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

my $0.02:

gambling and imbuing are the two "best" ways to "find" rare/magic items.

for imbues, imbuing an item that can get staffmods with a clvl89+ character will always spawn three staffmods.

if these staffmods are useful or not and what level they are is all a matter of chance, but you will get three of them.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

JMoDs only require an ilvl of 77, so they can drop in lots of places in Hell.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

A JMoD needs a minimum ilvl of 77 (edit: as stephan said). That would be normal monsters from hell act 2 Lost City and beyond, as well as high-level areas from before. The chance to find a monarch is highest in the cow level, but it's pretty good in any L80+ area.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

Well guys just to make sure you know how much i appriciate all this info i am posting i now have an mf javazon which i am trying to do regular cowruns with only problem atm is my merc who has rly poor defense and he is my mana source so tht is kiling me in cow lvl

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

Experiment with +mana after each kill items. A +5 lidless socketed "tir" is a good option. As is "silkweave" unique mesh boots (but then you'd be skipping WT, which is potentially a 50 MF loss) Also try respecing and go lower on vita (enough to survive the occational lightning enchanted or cold enchanted spell should be enough IMHO) and much higher on energy. This will both increase natural regen, and give more effect out of blues. Should you feel uncomfortable with 600ish life and high mana, it's fairly easy to get another respec and just go back to where you were.

Re: How to find that perfect rare/magic ??

And just to add... These items (Jeweler's Monarch of whatever, Jeweler's/Artisan's Tiara/Diadem of whatever, Jeweler's whatever elite light armor of whale/amicae, etc) are RARE AS HELL. At any rate. So make sure you thoroughly check the usefulness for any of the artisan's/jeweler's items, so you don't throw away an Artisan's Tiara with 25 pdr just because you thought it was useless.
