How much dex for max block? (also hammerdin question)

I dont raelly know the formula of max block. Im making a hammerdin and im going to use:
Weapon: Wizzy
Armor: GA
Shield: HoZ (p diamond or um)
Boots: Sandstorm Trek (maybe war trav)
Gloves: Frosties or TO gloves ( havent looked up on the fcr breakpoints yet)
Rings: Probably a dwarf star and a ravenfrost.
Amu: Not sure yet.

How much dex shouls i be needing at lvl 80-90 for max block?
And is there better gear choices for me? (no enigma, and other high runeowrds, that includes hoto). Ill try to use this char to do rush for forges on hell. if he gets strong enuf (he's a hammerdin! DUH! ofc he will be strong enuf :lol: ).What do you think about this gear setup? btw if it matters. i play hcl only.
 
I know for a SS its around 200. For a HoZ, Id still shoot for about 200 anyways, considering more dex = better chance to hit.

PS: thats 200 with all your gear on.

For the boots, wouldnt you be better off using sandtrek on a hammerdin? Id think war travs would be more melee oriented....

“Total Blocking = (Blocking * (Dexterity - 15)) / (Character Level * 2)

Where Blocking is (Shield Blocking + Holy Shield bonus) if you are using Holy Shield. Notice that even if you won’t be shown more than 75% blocking in your shield, its base chance to block might be higher (for example, Stormshield has 77% chance to block, and Herald of Zakarum has 82% chance to block for paladins, those are the numbers that you have to use)â€


That is the formula you should use to calculate the needed dex.

That's what I was thinking...but I plugged it in, and maxed holy shield on any 75% chance to block shield gives a total of 110 for the calculation. You'd be close but not at max according to the formula he gave. Of course with HoZ that would change a bit...but it looks to me like you still need to have dex in the nineties to get max block even with maxed holy shield - although it does save you about 50 points in dex.

Remember, max block varies between classes.

In any case for melee fighters, dumping points into dex is a poor way to increase your AR, that's what charms, skills, items are for.

For Pala's consider the Holy Shield bonus and work from there. At clvl 90 you shouldn't need more than 120ish points into dexterity + dex bonuses from items + mid-high lvl holy shield. The beauty of Pallies is that even with a mid blocking shield (50% chance or so) you can still receive 75% chance to block when you combine HS and items that increase block % (such as Twitch or GA).

Regarding boots. Boot choice is not much of an issue for a pally... it all depends on what you want. Sure WarTravs would seem most fit for a melee... but the benefits from its stats work for all class builds. The bonus from Strength gives you more room for points in other places and the returns that pallies get from points into Vitality make the 10 bonus stat points worth while. Also, many Hammerdins like to MF, so why not accept the big bonus from WarTravs? Honorable mentions also include: 65life WaterWalks and Silkweaves. The only boots that wouldn't make much sense for a Hammerdin would be Gores :cheesy:

Regarding FCR BPs. I believe 10 Frames is in the 70s and 9 Frames is in the early 100s.

Regarding maxing HS. It would be great to max HS for the added defense and sure fire 75% blocking chance, but by clvl 80, you've used up much of your points just max Hammerdin-based skills and synergies. I guess if you wanted to max HS you can... but unless you're PvP-based, I would find another useful skill to utilize.
 
Boots is ineed question of taste ...
personally I like Natalya soul 40FRW, 20+lighting/cold, 20% stamina heal, 140+ deffence
If you have enigma (45FRW built in) I'd go for sandstorm track for 30FHR which free up you charm slots from more cheap combat charms then 1combat/12FHR - and generally speaking you do need have ~28FHR at very least
As for FCR its all simple
48FCR = 11FPC
75FCR = 10FCR (optimum for PvM)
125FCR = 9FPC (optimum for PvP)
 
Regarding the blocking formula. Does the extra block from GA just like shield block? So my block is 102 with ga + HoZ? Am i better off with a diffrent armor? (no enigmas!). The 75 fcr needed for breakpoint... how would i archive them best? I get 50% from wizzy. 20% from TO's gloves (looks like im forced to use them). What would be best. To use a fcr and remove one of the absorb rings (remember i play hc) or to use a fcr amulet?

Hmm...oh well. My pallies got around 230 dex. But hes got 18k ar. Its not THAT much ar, but since hes walking around with over 30k def, he does alright. :P

Of course im pure melee though...and he was asking about a hammerdin... that of which ive only made 2 of and never really got into them. Thanks for the chance to block tips though. I was going to be making a FoH pally soon and ill take those into account. :D

You can actually experiment and see it.

For example:
Twitch gives 25% increase in block rate. For pallies, Tiamats Rebuke has 48% chance to block on shield. This number does not change when I equip/unequip Twitch. However the actual numbers alter from 58% character blocking to the maxxed 75% with Twitch equipped. This is without HS casted.

This concludes that increased block stats from Twitch or GA does not affect shield block but character block, so you can adjust according to the amount - adding the bonus from Twitch after.
 
GA aren't good choice for caster paladin.... really.
You best bet if no enigma yet - upgraded vipermagi. It have everything that hammerdin can dream about
+1 skill (more damage to hammers), 30FCR (godly), 20-35 resist all (!), 9-15MDR (15 more MDR and you can ignore such things like lighting surge of diablo) toss here respectible deffence with low str req ....
I'd go with suicide branch for same reason - +1 skill/40life/50FCR/+10%mana/10 resist all imo better choice then 50FCR/75res all/100+ mana
Raven frost - is cheap is nice ring to use - its boost your dextr it give + mana and on top you cannt frozen (w/o enigma its essential)
