"Hotkeys"

For one thing, I'd like to tell everyone that I have not yet tried what I have described, as I will not have access to the D2LoD game until tonight sometime.

Anyhow, to the point, in some assassin guides I've been reading, they've spoken of having "hotkeys" on keys such as W and Q, etc.

Can someone tell me the details of the steps utilized to do this? Do you just hit W or Q on the skill as with F1 [et al] keys? And if so, will the "W" [weapon switch] key cease to work as weapon switch, and forever be used to switch to the skill assigned? Same with Q [ceasing to work to open the quest window].

Thanks in advance for any answers.

With every character I have, my skills are set up Q-T and A-G. That gives me 10 skills that I can get to very quickly and still hit a pot quickly if I need to also. Yes, you will lose the wep switch key as W, but I set up my wep switch as caps lock and my quest button as P and my skills window as Y. It is completely customizable, that is just how I am most comfortable with my hotkeys.

I never even knew you could customize things like that...
Can you explain in further detail how to customize the weapon switch button? [et al]

In-game, press Esc and go to options and configure controls. You can set up any action to any hotkey that you want to. Those are just the ones that are most comfortable to me.

Thanks for the info as well. I've had D2 and the x-pack since release and never knew you could configure hotkeys like that. Actually I lied, I knew people set skills to all kinds of keys but wasnt sure how to do it until now.

Re: "Hotkeys"

I know this thread is a bit dated...

but if anyone uses the 19" VX922 viewsonic, they may have the same resolution blinking green LED issue that i have, which means my monitor hates full screen games... i've yet to fix this...

anyways my real question here is, since i am required to play in windowed mode, would that affect my hot keys? i play a lot of WoW and depend on hotkeys, so its very important to me that i get this setup!

if anyone could try it for me, that'd be great. to run DII LoD in windowed mode, just go to start>run>**"C:\filespath\diablo II.exe" -w*** without the astrieks, but with the '-w'.. anywyas, any help would be great.. with so many spells, i cant imagine blizzard not making them all easily accessible. thanks a lot!

Re: "Hotkeys"

I play in windowed mode as well, and hotkeys are not a problem for me. The best thing to do would be test it yourself. Nobody can tell you something as personal as this is good or bad. It just depends how you like it.

Re: "Hotkeys"

The biggest problem I had with windowed mod is clicking outside and getting the window minimized (often when try to tele). If you play HC, it's a bit risky :P

Re: "Hotkeys"

You can get around the window minimising thing, but we're not allowed to talk about how openly. If you're interested, PM me.

You will still have problems clicking outside of the window, of course. I run a second monitor (set to 800x600) and drag my D2 windows over there, which essentially means 3 solid "edges" to the game screen... works nice enough.

One useful "bug" that arises from being windowed (or my setup, at least) is that if you click and hold attack (or any other mouse click, i.e. casting) and drag the mouse pointer out of the D2 window, the attack continues indefinitely - so long as you don't press anything on the keyboard, or click the mouse again within the window. Useful for uber trist or other time-consuming attacks (zealot vs PIs and so forth). I wonder if this is considered "cheating"...

Re: "Hotkeys"

Having the mouse leave the screen can only be a bad thing.
Clicking out basically ruins duels. One click out usually means a loss. And a lot of dueling requires namelocking at the edges of the screen, or using corners to teleport for maximum distance.. makes it pretty impossible to play windowed unless you are doing some laid back pvm or something.

Ive been asking for an answer on how to not click out for a long while, and havent heard of any ways to do it besides using some kind of third party program.

Re: "Hotkeys"

Does nobody use the scroll wheel on the mouse for switching skills? It takes some getting used to, but I'm way more comfortable and quicker with using the mouse for switching.
(and why is this topic in the assasin forum?)

Re: "Hotkeys"

Ive used the mousewheel for individual skill hotkeys before, never as scroll.. I'd much rather have direct control over which skills Im selecting when rather than cycling through them.
