Hot Key question from a lazy player

I always use the default key config, with a few changes:

m3 is for telekenisis, or slow missile... depending on the character. I don't use m3 for any other char's but sorcs or zons, that I can remember.
f1 i have static field on, f2 is the main spell with f3 as the auxiliry one. Of course this depends on the build. For other chars f1-f3 are my main skills.

I *always* have f4 as town portal, f5 is golem or valk, with secondary minions as f6-f8. f8 on non summoners I usually have as a utility skill, such as CoS on 'sins.

I realize other configurations could be speedier, but I've grown too accustom to using defaults. With all the hours of d2, this config is imbued upon my brain so I can't change now :P

Too lazy to change the default key config. I map skills to the F# butons and switch with scroll wheel. I only assign the F# keys to skills that I actually use all the time, and change that as the char progresses, for example I give leap a hotkey when running Meph to jump the moat, but remove it when questing. I also play chars that don't need many different hotkeys - my IK barb never invested in/used battle command just to make playing simpler.

~: show belt
1234: belt slots
Q: quest log
W: weapon switch
A: char screen
S: merc screen
TAB: map
CAPS: nice big letters
SHIFT: stand still
CTRL: toggle r/w
ALT: nothing, keep hitting windows if i do
SPACE: inventory
F: show items
D: skill tree
G-H-N-M: pre-buff skills
E-R-B: left-mouse skills
Z-X-C-V-B-G: right mouse skills
O: message log
P: party screen

F1-F12 is lacking for me, your hands start to ache if they're not as big as your keyboard, or your playing performance goes down.

Since this has degenerated into a 'what hotkeys do you use' topic

I stick with the default F1-F8 (-12, really) because it's easier for me (I've gotten used to it by now :) ). Most-used skills get mapped to F1-F5, so I only need move down a bit to get to the belt keys. Also all relevant skills tend to be grouped together, eg. TS - F1, CS - F2, PS - F3, FoF - F4, BoI - F5, CoT - F6 in the case of an MA assassin.

What's really sad about this thread is that most of us can list our hotkeys from memory. I'm at work so I know I'm not looking at my game:

1234 - belt
5 - inventory (I should switch this cuz I do occasionally hit 4 by mistake)
6 - weapon switch
7 - character
8 - merc
qwerty - left click skills
asdfgh - right click skills (h is almost always set to TP)
F1 - Quests
F2 - Skills
F3 - Run/Walk

There are probably other keys configured but, since I don't use them, I don't remember them.

When I switch characters, my first action is always to check the sequences for left/right hand skills. Last thing I want to do is cast Chilling Armour when I meant to throw a Meteor at someone.

Yeah, it is another hot-keys thread, but I find it fascinating how people configure things in different ways. I know some people even use the scroll wheel on the mouse to change skills.

For me:

Q: Character screen
W: Inventory
E: Skill pop-up
R: Merc
T: Skill tree

A-F: Primary skills:
Z-C: Secondary skills (like warcries, minions etc)
G, B, H, J, N: Extra skills (mainly for necromancers who have a separate skill for everything)

V: Town portal

Tab: Toggle Map
Caps-Lock: Toggle run-walk
Shift: Stand still
Spacebar: Show items

Mouse wheel: Switch weapons (it's clickable)

Unless I'm playing a paladin I tend to always map my attacking skills or spells on to my right mouse button and use the left button only for movement.

I stick mostly with the default. The only changes I make are that on a few characters I add F9-F12, and I use spacebar for anything I might have to hit in a hurry. For example, teleport goes there most often. I figure by attaching it to the biggest key on the board, I am less likely to miss in a hurry.
Oh, and F8 is always town portal. My most used skill, whatever it may be, tends to end up on F5.
