Many people, especially people who don't frequent our little corner of the internet, have no idea that using duped runes in an item and then later trading it away might even be objectional to anyone. Threads like this start, to let them know that we rank this behaivor right up there with canabalism and infanticide.

No realy officer... I didn't know eating that guy was wrong!
 
I've got to be agreeing with Solo's viewpoint- I have respect for the fact that a lot of people like Mil understand game dynamics a lot more than I do, especially with runes, but at the same time, there are times when the torches come out fast. I think the first post by Mil was the most appropriate, and the 'why a tusk sword' was a good question- but then again, I could easily see myself having done something like that before I found the SPF and started understanding the nature and rarity of rune drops- as for him trading it- I could see that once I found I could trade, going through and getting what I thought were my 'cool' items for trade before knowing their limitations.

Basically, to actually make a point with this- not everyone has a good understanding of items and runes, and some make 'mistakes' (goofy socketing that is), so I tend to give benefit of doubt- ask the appropriate questions, and voice suspicions, but don't pull out the pitchforks and torches so quickly.

What are you guys!? Total n00blars? Don't you know that when you make HoJ in a tusk sword you get an uber 1337 bonus to damage?

I seriously, seriously doubt any SPer who didn't play 24 hours a day, eight days a week could ever find a Lo, Cham, and Sur...The chances are so low that it's really not worth trying to convince anyone that you actually found all three.

On a similar note...shouldn't it use a Mal instead of Lo?

Ok people, i think everyone agrees that its an outragious claim to have those runes in THAT sword. But most of you should seriously consider shaping up when it comes to things like this. Causing a riot isn't going to fix anything. Don't be so quick to judge, either.

And yes, please lock this thread.
 
I'm with WhiskeyJack and Solo on this, let the guy respond before take out the torch. Me also think Kremtok acted too cocky when there is absolutely no fact supporting his view point.
 
Im with solo, who knows how long the fellow has played? He could be playing since 1.07 for all we know. Give him a chance to defend himself.

@Milamber: Just because you have a low post count doesnt mean you havent been playing for a while. Lay off the new people, you havent a clue how long they have been playing.

To complete this: Many people have been burned at the stake because they happen to have a nice amount of items at arival at the SPF. Then people have the nerve to automatically asume that they have been right because the victem of the flaming doesn't reply? I don't know about you, but i'd be so insulted and possibly hurt, i wouldn't load up the forum for a second time if i got paid for it.

Now i will for once agree with the flamers on one thing: He has those runes, he knows the runeword but he puts it in THAT item? Case closed.

But for all that is holy, have some respect.

I honetly don't expect to change anyone's mind but here goes.....

Some Facts on Haida_Bear

I've been playing Diablo II SP since the day it came out.
I have never deleted a character, thanks to a zip drive just dumped them on there
I had, for the longest time lost intereste in the game.
I have just been introduced to Atma and used it to itemize my equipment of which I have A LOT.
I used to use the 2nd window dll to mule items a lot
I have NEVER duped an item,
I have Never spent any time contemplating "runeine" items as I have spent countless hrs mf'ing and don't need to use any rune equpment.
I came across a tusk sword with 4 slots in it and decided to rune it to get some assy claws for the trapper I'm currently playing
I looked down the list of rune words on the arreat summit and picked the one furthest down on the list to make assuming it was the best to make
I have in the past actually used 2 rune stones Amn's for my hone sundin jari and a few shaels for various equipment. They basically hold no value for me.
I'm sorry about posting to the wrong location (honest mistake)
I cubed a tusk sword because I think there's a cube recepie that can make a low level item elite ect... so it could have been increased.

Anyway, I'll probably keep it if I ever wanted to use a barb merc.

Not sure if you believe you or not. Sounds a bit conflicting to me. You've been playing all this time, but you didnt realise you cant upgrade runewords?

Edit: Pointless jokes aside, we can't do anything without an ATMA readout. Your reluctance to post one makes me rather skeptical. This would all clear up, if you did so. We tend to scare people off with the quick draw on the torches, but that doesn't mean your standing here is irrecoverably damaged, as long as the item is proven legit. Anyways, cheers!
 
saying you used up amns and shaels, to show that runes hold no value to you, so it should be believable to us that you just wasted these runes is BEYOND US.

I think, through years of playing and finding a Sur AND a Cham, you would have found something better than a 4 socket Tusk Sword. The best way to trade would be to trade the RUNES and not an unbelieable rune word in a crappy base item.

Well, I'm with the people that do not torch someone who has 1 high level rune (perhaps socketed 'stupidly') or item. As it was said before, everyone with a pat or mat character can have the luck of having one drop. And if you're not a die-hard player like most here, you might well have no clue whatsoever that that Cham you just found is among the top 3 (or so) rarest items in the game. Now the fact that HoJ requires 3 runes of a rarity that I've never seen drop in my years of D2 play makes me believe this item is not legit though.

I do feel we should keep a close eye on runes and their sources. The same goes for items. But it's not strange for someone to get pointed to a forum 'where you can trade items with legit players!' and post a trade post (before an intro and all that...honestly, how often do you read all the rules/FAQs of a forum or whatever if you get directed there for one reason or another?), possibly with high items in the list (heck, I had a Grandfather collecting dust in a mule when I joined here, I had no clue it was worth a damn). I feel that it'd be good for the forum community as a whole if new people like that get a chance to introduce themselves and explain their playing background before the torches are lit...which seems to be the norm nowadays.
 
First, I think there are polite ways to express your skepticism. I haven't gone near the item find thread or the trade thread in months, simply because I want to avoid the accusations and arguments that runes cause. Fortunately, over the last month or so I haven't witnessed those kinds of controversies in the threads I have been reading.

Assuming for a minute that Haida Bear's runes were legit, he could have saved himself a lot of grief by asking a few smart questions before deciding what to do with the runes. Things he might have found out:

1) Sur, Cham and Lo runes are all highly prized, and he could have traded any one of them for almost all the assassin items he would need.

2) He would have been asked some probing questions about the origins of the runes, and there's a good chance many people would elect not to trade because they weren't 100% certain of the legitimacy of the runes. Not a knock against Haida Bear in particular - just the nature of trading in 1.10.

3) He would probably would have been able to find away to trade for the assassin items he wanted anyway. SPF traders seem pretty flexible in finding ways to make deals work.

4) If he decided to turn the runes into a runeword, the forum might have suggested that "Doom" would be both a more useful and more tradable commodity than "Hand of Justice".

5) The community would also have offered suggestions on which items he should socket the runes in, and would probably even have donated an item with the appropriate number of sockets.
