guys, can someone tell me that is it safer to play on US East? is there less hackers there?

also, billy, how did u get hacked? even blizzard says that realm char. are safe from hackers. sorry this noob question but i really need to know.

Otto: By hacking ppl generaly mean that hackzorz somehow get your password and use it to steal your itamz. Hacking into Blizzard's servers would be quite hard if not virtualy impossible.

Apart from what ael already mentioned, I would also suggest you read this thread at the forum: http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=388625 this part in specific since a lot of accounts are hacked this way
Clan Scam (/DND scam): People will ask you if you want to join their clan. They will ask you to go to a private room (so no-one else can alert you), add your account to their friends list and ask you to do the same. They will then ask you what your "dueling and damage ratings" are. WHICH DOES NOT EXIST! They will tell you you can find this out by typing "/dnd (acct name) (acct password)- but what it really does is tell your account information to anyone who messages you while you are in DND(do not disturb) mode! Just do not type your account name and password anywhere for any reason except to log on to your account.

The Standard of heroes, which drops when you finish uber tristram along with the hellfire torch, many people are claiming 12 cubed in the matrons den to opens another portal- this does not work! There might be some use for the soh since it has a lvl 90 requirement, but no one knows yet; so until this is figured out and you see posts about it in the community forum confirming its use, it's best not to trade for them, unless you can get them cheap and want to gamble on the fact that it might do something. I wouldn't though.

Hack program scam- There are a number of map hack programs, or other programs on websites on the internet that may actually work- but more often than not they will record your cd key or acct name and password and send it back to the program's author after you start them up along with Diablo 2.

so far from what I've been reading in these forums seems that accounts that are registered to hotmail emails may be at danger. so, just to be on the safe side it may be better to change to a non hotmail account.

as for the US East being safer? I dont think any realm is 100% hacker free. US East probably has more then most since more people play in there. And maybe the US west comes close to in numbers of people who play. No clue tho :(. So I could be wrong. Best suggestion I can do, other then the link I mentioned above is: if something in bnet sounds too good to be true? its a scam. so for example: if someone opens a game called free account, then gives you the account name and pass. what I've seen happen is that the person may play that account for x amount of days or weeks. As time goes by you may feel more confortable in it. Because you'll think you changed password so the account is safe. And then one day you try logging on and the password was changed. How it was done? easy: the person who started the account registered it to their email and allowed you enough time to build and equip the chars. Then all he did was logged on and requested a password change. And because the account was registered to their account Bnet then sent them an email a new password. and I'm sure there's lots of other ways one can get scammed out of items :(



 
i really did get hacked

I was offline because i lost my cd key but my friend (I know him personally) was on. My friend called me and asked me if i found it because i was on. But i was not on my acc. they took almost all of my gear and xfered it in my friends game while he was playing. The persons name is Cardinalsfre he thinks. IF there is ne way i can get my gear back or find out how it happened (i didnt register so he couldnt have used that). And no1 knew my pass but close friend and i know he didnt check it cuz right after i went 2 other friends house and checked his acc 4 my stuff. PLZ REPLY. Oh and if u can try 2 get cardinalsfre REALLY pissed off.

Just quit man. Think about it. Can you put your achievements in Diablo on a resume, unless you're a game designer or make money playing games?

All the time you spend playing a game you could have:
1. Learned how money works (and made more money in the process)
2. Learned another language
3. Spent more quality time with your loved one(s).
4. Found a better job/got better grades.

There are a million other things I can think of but let's start with those.

Well I can certainly appreciate the setiments there Raff but I have to agree with Dondrei, take it easy. I saw the thread in question this morning but fell short on time to respond. I've not followed the entire thread mind you but I've seen enough to know where you're at. My wife and I have been through this, all the way to the divorce proceedings. There's something about facing that finality, it really makes you think. In the face of that we gave it another go. I'm not saying that your situation will end the same, I don't know all of the details.

I will say this, drinking isn't going to make things any better. It never does. :wink3:

Thanks for the tip on not drinking. I'll stay away from the alcohol then when I party...or I'll just drink some...water. haha

Wait. You and your wife almost got divorced -- because of Diablo 2? And now you're thinking about playing it again. I don't know if I got this correct but if I did, wtf are you thinking? If my wife asked me back right now I'll be so damn sorry I'll burn the Game Stop in my neighborhood as proof of my sincerity to change.



 
No, it didn't have anything to do with D2, although there was that one time with Starcraft! :laugh: I work, I pay bills, I spend time with my kids. If I want to sit down and play some games on the PC, so be it. I may spend alot of time on here but I make sure I have everything else done. Garbage needs taking out? No problem. Truck needs a tune-up, brakes, spark plugs, oil change? No problem. Kids need help with homework? No problem.

When the gaming habit overrides these things, then yeah you've got a problem. My days off when the wife is at work and the kids are in school, that's my serious gaming time. :grin:
 
Well i havent played diablo 2 in about 2 years, but im thinking about going back, and d2ii.net was a great resource for my D2 needs... and i go to the main page and i see the forum watch and still ppl getting hacked...

I was playing D2 since the day it came out till (stated above 2 years ago)...

and about 5 years ago, i cant really recall, but about 2-3 months after LOD came out i was farming for tals armor, since noone had it and it was going for about 600$ alone on ebay....retards... but anyways, i was farming frozen something it was a area in act 5 were it was said to drop, and after god, probly 50-60 runs, i said crap why dont i just d/l a map hack so i can see the bosses and get it over with... low and behold 2-3 days after the d/l i get tals armor, full set baby only about 2 months after LOD release...

BEST FEELING in a video game i ever had....

2days later i get booted... WTF... sign on password doesnt match.... WTF

make a new account... I CAUGHT THE GUY... he was on my account i was talking to him, all he did was laugh at me and call me a loser and other names.... so think of that... all my hard work to catch the guy and able to do nothing about it.... 8 guys over 70.... over 400 wins on starcraft... ALL GONE... its been happening for a long time....

then after that stopped for a year.. came back even stronger had better chars gear and i know this isnt big anymore but took UBER D myself with my hammerdin.... so just pick urself back up... its happen to probly 1000s of ppl.... but yet again. i play wow again... thought i would never leave d2 but there always other games too....

Ive been away from these forums for a while and jsut read this thread,very sorry to here about your loss Rykuss.I read many of your posts and you seem a nice guy certainly not deserving of such circumstance. Ive never had the misfortune of a hacked account but I can imagine the heartache.

To me the sickening feeling of distrust toward bnet players would weigh more than the loss of gear.I personally knew a few people who have given away the game and all there quite substantial gear collection and restarted later and been happy for the break away.Its not the same when some sob takes your gear from you though.

Anyways goodluck with your SP or wherever playing diablo 2 takes you in the future.
 
this is my frist post and i have got to say this goodluck i read this whole thread i see alot of people think highly of you... i would like to say this though if anyone who reads this hacks others account may ye burn in the firey pits of hell.

I didnt lose account just sojs 3/20/20s rune words, all my 15ar gc still there glitched etheral AF still there. Arach gone, soul spurs gone.
I think what hit me was item specific back door somewhere.
I turned down unbelieveable offers for Arreats Face. lol how the hell do you spell that? It was on my merc. His etheral 1220 coh was gone and his last wish CB eth. How the hell did they not get that AF I dunno!!!!
When I got home my virus window was up and it had deleted some sort of file. I jus said cool and closed it. Maybe the door was slammed shut before they got all dunno? Torch and anni gone too.
