Gambling...does the Act # matter ?

so in classic u could gamble SoJ but u needed manald and nagel ring in game someplace on you or in your stash or someone elses.. is that still true?

No, that trick no longer works.

Count on it...frankly I am appalled. I am sitting here at work feeling quite ill because of some of your comments.

I will go home and do just that...and then what ? apologies all around? Yha right...Won't someone then just accuse me of creating the logs or something else? Christ I don't even use hot keys, I just like playing the game. hacking, cheating sorry no time for that. I have twin 14 month old boys I am lucky to get 90 minutes a night play time.

I am saddened by all of this, I wish I had not posted. I am guilty I suppose of boasting the stats on some items. Since thay gambling session I have tried several more times and only a rare item or two with several million spent.

Being lucky never felt so shi@@y.

Enough of this though, please just give me a chance to get home and post the "Proof" before posting anymore hurtful comments.

After that I will consider this a lesson in the nature of people.

Relax, enjoy your 2 cute kids. Alot of members here understand the games mechanics, but sometimes the game glitches.

Unfortunately, this is the way how the things are conducted in the SPF omegamann. You are not the only one who is very busy, I'm at work too, I sometimes work up to 14 hours, so I arrive home and I just sleep. Besides I aslo have my GF and have other business to attend too.

The SPF is so defensive because of the quantity of dupers, hackers, created items, bots and all that. Sorry if we hurt your feeling, unfortunately, we need to be so defensive because of many things that have happened in the SPF.

Again, as I posted, NOTHING PERSONAL, just how things are in the SPF

Omegamann,

Have you heard the saying "Once bitten, twice shy?" Well, people have made claims here before and turned out to be dupers/hackers. This goes back many years and has been the cause of many flame wars, hurt feelings, etc. Like was said, do not take it personally just realize that it is a protection mechanism after way too many incidents.

Gambling uniques really isn't as impossible as some posters are saying. Because something is "random" it will invariably happen to one people more than it happens to another, if you gambled two rings and one was a manrald and the other a soj then that's still random, you've just been very lucky.

I was gambling amulets in act 1 with one of my first SP chars, the 3rd one was a Nozakan Relic, so it really is possible to get uniques without spending millions of gold.

Earlier this year, I gambled two sets of Vidala's boots within a week of each other, and I only spent maybe $300K total (both pairs were gambled by tournament characters). So weird coincidences *do* happen in this game.

Someone used to offer newcomers straight-jackets, but he got banned, so nowadays we have to live with unrestrained psychos in the SPF wreaking havoc in foodfights. :badteeth:

I thought Diadem's were upgraded from coronets, thus could be gambled earlier that there qlvl, do to the fact the game does its upgrade. That would also result in the fact that once it was upgraded, the Diadem could possibly result in a unique item. On a sidenote, the gentlemen didn't even stat the lightning mods, which is the most important mods(as they vary) on the Griffon's, take thats for whats it worth.

That doesn't matter, the point is that the minimum Ilvl for Griffon's Eye is 84, which he can't possibly reach as a Clvl 74 character. So that would mean he's running a mod that he may not know about. A re-install would help, after uninstalling and emptying the Diablo II folder, keep the save folder intact if you want to keep your characters.

Well now, this thread seems to have taken a turn for the worse.

Let me begin by saying that I have been PM'ing with omegamann for the past two weeks. He has been asking me questions about the game in general, and I responded with answers to those questions. We started PM'ing after I responded to one of his threads in the necromancer forum: http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=447261

Over the past ~2 weeks, we exchanged several PMs, and I was getting a little concerned that he was only interacting with me, and not with the forum in general. So I prompted him to participate more in the SP forum, for it is better for him to be known by many on here, rather than just myself. It looks like he took my advice, judging from this thread...

He did mention in passing in a PM yesterday that he found a 'unique diadem'. Like some people on here, I too was astounded, as it could only have been Griffon's Eye. I asked him how he got it, and he told me he gambled it from Gheed in Hell Act 1. I asked him the stats, and he provided them to me, including the ilvl, but not the fingerprint. My next PM to him asked him what clvl he was when he gambled for it, and he responded with clvl of 73 or 74.

Now, I do not know very much about the mechanics of gambling, apart from the fact that items gambled will have an ilvl of -5 to +4 of the char level. I am also aware of the 1/10 for a rare, 1/1000 for a set and 1/2000 for a unique, and that MF has nothing to do with gambling. But that is about it. So, if a Griffon's has a qlvl of 84, then omegamann must have a char level of 80 at the minimum to stand a chance of gambling for one. And yet, he was clvl 74 at best at the time.

I was looking for a 'Guide to Gambling' yesterday to try to understand the mechanics of gambling. Sadly, I could not find one. I was thinking of asking omegamann to start a thread about his gambling for a Griffon's Eye, but it looks like he 'jumped the gun' and went ahead without my prompting. But I also had reservations on that idea, as I knew that it would be viewed with some disbelief, if he went and said 'I gambled a Griffon's Eye; my clvl was 74'. It looks like this thread of his has received the reaction that I thought it would.

Frankly, I have never been so fortunate to gamble something that amazing. I usually gamble amulets and rings, and the best I ever got were Nagelrings and Manald Heal rings or Mahim Oak Curio amulets. From what I understand of gambling, any unique items generated is entirely random; MF has nothing to do with it. The game decides to give you a unique based on the very small odds, and that unique is entirely random. Now, the question is, can omegamann gamble for a qlvl 84 Griffon's with a clvl 74 char?

From the 'Gambling' section of AS:
Certain items have a high quality level associated to them, when this occurs it is possible to attain higher level affixes. An example of this is the Diadem with a quality level of 85. In this case, you can receive higher level affixes even if you are at a low character level.

From the 'Circlets' section of AS:
Circlets have a special magic ability which allows players to receive a higher level magical Prefixes and Suffixes on Monster Drops and when Gambling on Circlets. This bonus only applies to the bonuses that appear on Circlets themselves. This does not help generate better Magic Prefixes and Suffixes on other items. So when you receive a Circlet via Gambling or a Monster drop the Magic Level helps increase the chances that a better Magic Prefix or Suffix will appear on it.

Diadems have a Magic Level of 18. How that works with qlvl, I do not know. Is it possible for a char to gamble for a Griffon's at a lower char level than the '-5 to +4 rule'? Does the Magic Level of circlets bypass this rule, or alter it in some way such that it allows chars with lower clvls to gamble for higher qlvl circlets?

Which proves that it is not impossible to gamble for the really uber stuff. It is just down to luck. What we really need to know here is this; is it possible to gamble for a Griffon's at clvl 74?

Omegamann, I should have warned you not to post a thread like this, especially since you are barely known by people on here. You have to understand that people in the SPF value this game and play it legitimately, and many of us have come here after turning away in disgust from b.net. As such, there will always be a streak of suspicion when a thread like this surfaces, especially from someone who is new to the forum. I echo the advice not to take it personally. The scepticism you have received is a result of the un-numbered hoards out there who do dupe and hack. The SPF is a haven, albeit a haven ringed with defences.

To be honest, I too was sceptical when you mentioned 'a unique diadem'. It is a natural reaction to a claim which is based on the extremely low probability of gambling for such a rare item. But low probability does not mean impossible. For the record, I believe you. I believe you not because I know the hard facts on gambling, but because you do not come across as the type of person who would derive any benefit or pleasure out of deceit. For the short time that we have been PM'ing, you have come across as genuine and honest, and I trust you because I feel you are alright and upworthy.

It is never a pleasant feeling to have your integrity questioned, and on that point, may I point out that a couple of the posters in this thread could have been a little more delicate with the phrasing of their posts. But most of the others have been helpful and honest, and I would take heart in that. Please do not write off the entire forum on the basis of a couple of people indirectly hinting that you have been less than upright.

My advice is for you to use ATMA, cut the Griffon's stats and paste it onto purediablo.com. Then, everyone can see the full details of the diadem. And hopefully, someone knowledgeable will come along and explain the mechanics behind a clvl 70-ish char gambling for a Griffon's Eye.

To the others, give the guy a chance. I know that he is new, and by unspoken consent, all new people have a period of 'proving themselves'. I know that most of you do not know him, but I have at least corresponded with him for a couple of weeks, and if my judgement is anything to go by, I think he is trustworthy and would not start a thread just to mess everyone up.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here, n00b that I am, and say that I /believe/ the items of that type (Circlet, coronet, diadem) all can be gambled early. They chose to phrase it Affix just because that made it easier to understand for gambling, since chances are so incredibly low for uniques.

My guess is that the game code for gambling that item type (Circlet, coronet, diadem) probably has some sort of modifer in it. I don't really see a reason why the guy would lie about it, but *shrug*

For reference, my best finds in many many MF runs so far has been Cerebus Bite, Jade Talon (+48!!!) and Arm of King Leoric. So my luck is nothing to compare to.

I guess at this point enough has been said that makes me believe no matter what I do or say won't make a difference with some of you. I use Atma and have only installed a patch from Blizzard. If there is a mod program on my system I am not aware of it. Hell I pm a few people and ask questions so I won't look stupid on these boards.

I can't even wear the damn Diadem thing until I get to lvl 76 and the crown I am wearing has MF topaz's in it that are more fun (finding magic items or gambling them was fun until this) I suppose the fcr will help but to be honest this whole deal has taken the wind out of my sails and I don't think there will be much D2 in my future.

Sad really I was having fun with it.

Arreat, no offence but I don't cheat and I don't lie and it is probably easy for you to sit there and say nothing personal...for me it does not get much more personel.

I wish I knew any of you in RL and you would know the truth. I am sure I am taking this harder then I should, it's just a game for god's sake.

I am gonna toss that damn thing on the ground and log off...good riddance to bad trash.

I wish I could explain what happened. It looked neat and shiney so I gambled and look what it got me. Yay me.

I am sure you all have you own reasons for being so jaded and guarded, but from my eyes it is just mean spirited and I feel awful.

Thanks to anyone that posted not so much in my defense but just mentioning the possibility that there was no malice intended here and that it is possible that it happened as I said.

I did not even understand the game mechanics enough to know that it should not have been possible for a lvl 74ish character to get this level item until I read these posts.

Soo...enough already. Sorry if I sound whiney I am just bummed. I would rather have nothing said of me them to have something bad said of me.

Good luck to you all, have fun and be good to each other.

JP

Well, that works.

If his clvl at the time of gambling was 74, then the war spear with an ilvl of 69 fits within the parameters of -5 to +4 of the char level. Likewise, the ilvl 74 Seraph's Hymn falls precisely on clvl 74.

So, there must be some in-game mechanism that can allow an ilvl 85 Griffon's Eye to be gambled by a clvl 74 char.

Congrats, that's some pretty amazing gambling luck you have there. :prop:

I've never gambled three uniques in one gambling session before or even two for that matter. I have had some great luck gambling ammy's though. I don't gamble ammy's very often but out of the 6 or 7 unique ammy's I've ever gambled two of them have been Mara's, one was a 24 on Bnet and the other one was a 21 in SP just about a week ago now. So I do understand amazing luck can happen from time to time in this game.

Quitting the game because of the SPF is dumb. If you want a "noobie" friendly forum, just stick to posting in the newcomer forum for a while. No matter what you post there, people will be helpful.

Anywho, make a lightning sorc and stick that bad boy Griffin on her. She'll blow things up all nasty like. Or if you DO decide to quit, send that thing to me! :prop: I've been magic finding like crazy for one of those and no dice.

Maybe some of you could apologize to him since it appears he was just astronomically lucky?

Can anyone remember a certain WF?

I say this must be his reincarnation in gambling form.. Or maybe just his cousin. :jig:
