Nice finds everyone, congrats!

I'm still playing 1.06b, I've come across a couple nice ancient swords (that second one especially, keep in mind base damage for an ancient sword is 43 and max ED is 198% in rares, damn their high level reqs for useless mods though).

Since I wanted to get some use out of them I decided to make a frenzy barb, and he's had his share of luck so far: Ormus gifted him with this nice ring he's been happily using since, and the imbue quest in normal at level 30 resulted in this lance, which has been a welcome upgrade to my whirler :)

My hc whirler has been parked in act 4 for about a week now because I've been in finals and a little scared i wouldn't be properly focused enough to deal with iron maiden. In that time he's been mfing relatively safe areas like pits and ATs with some luck; however I decided to finally take him through today. Phew... But that's what I expected. :)

The first, failed one - maybe I will just test it as the second weapon for now anyway on my axe whirler to come. The WIAS calculator says the combination of these two Griefs gives 10 attacks per second, while if both were wias>34, it would be 12,5. I know, I know, that's not a good plan in any way, but I have yet to come up with a decent second weapon. (Oath, Death Cleaver, another Grief...) This one maybe I will give to a zealot, smiter sometime to toy around with.

The good one I am fairly content with, a somewhat mid damage roll, but a min 10 life per kill. :p

I guess that if I get another Mal, another socketable, I will burn my last Lo for the third Grief try too. Dual grieving. ;)

@Theolog: The "failed" grief is still going to put out more damage than Death, Oath or Death Cleaver and attack faster than a Death (which would be better than Oath and a tough call compared to DC), so I'd just whirl with both Griefs. You can make another one if you want, but if that one fails, you have a weapon with not too much use to you and a poor trade value, if it comes to that (and if it succeeds you still have a failed Grief that's not much use to you with poor trade value). I'd suggest you make Grief in a different weapon or a (second?) Fortitude. Congrats on the good damage rolls (and the IAS roll on the second) and the ...burden... of having to roll an unsuccessful Grief. :)

Thanks Kefir! 1.06b is the last patch before LoD was released, I'm not really playing it with the idea of bringing any items forward (except perhaps for a white scepter with +holy shield for runewording, or something similar).

It's the last patch (and thus the less bugged and better balanced) that has that truly classic feel to it, I started playing back then in bnet (in 1.03, iirc) and have some fond memories so it's for nostalgia more than anything else. What can I say? I love the thrill of nearly every rare drop having the potential of improving your gear, it's refreshing if nothing else :)

My main goal is to build a better charm and jewel base (or so I keep trying to convince myself, if for no other reason than to increase the rune drop chance.) And if that's really what I'm there for, it doesn't look so bad on the left side of the curve.
