fast levelling

hello,

i want to try some builds in the possible shortest time. what's the fastest way to reach lvl70+ in SP and what will be the average time to do this?

i thought -act5 command (start from lvl33 char) is a good option for this purpose but then i thought this won't be welcomed by the SPF community. so i want to make this levelling fast as possible and in rules of the SPF, because i may think to MP with these chars soon.

thanks :)

play through normal and nightmare on /players 8 setting. Do full clears. You'll hit 70 partway through Nightmare

ok i already play at players 8 but i want faster than that..umm FASTEST :laugh:

in past 1.5 weeks i completed hell with 4 chars (plus 1 char few days ago than them). still i want to try lots of builds too

edit: same chars started to bore me, that's why i want to give a break to my old chars and to try new builds that i haven't played too much before

Fast leveling mini guide (note this may be frowned upon because of using (multiple :P ) odd SP stuff :
1. Get to know how to multiplay with yourself. (fast user switching, midified DLL)
2. Make an enchant sorc as your next char, level her up untill you have max enchant/warmth/fire mastery and load up on +skill gear.
3. Get a 1.09 ravenclaw, a Kuko Shakaku and an Demon Machine.
4. Make the character of your choice.
5. Host an MP game (open to others if you prefer, they can help out especially if you're not a sorc) and join with your normal char and your enchanter.
6. Enchant your normal char and kill everything in 1 hit. Get to level 15 and kill 2-3 monsters per hit. Get to level 33 and kill too many monsters too fast (god pierce is great). Get to level 49 and attack as fast as possible.
7. Level upto 70 on NM Baal.

Notes:
- You can play the game on /p8. You will not notice what the monsters life is like since they die in one hit anyway.
- You have to plan your stats to wear the bows and the crossbow.
- You have to attack using regular attacks, this means getting IAS gear is pretty good.

Tournaments are the key there. They offer many restrictions from skills to equipment, I'm sure a few are floating around atm, Afterlife Tournament looks interesting.

@Sint Nikolaas

i read that fast user switching guide, it's a good option. also, i'll consider this mini guide. thanks for that.

@Vang

i want to join one of the tournaments but their skill and item rules will prevent me from making my desired builds i think.

also, honestly i wasn't thinking to build a sorc for now, but for that mini guide a sorc is mandatory i guess, right?

edit: thanks Thyiad, now i'll read those guides before starting to do something.

i'll be back for further more questions, thank you all :)

@Drixx: he wants to be the fastest, not the slowest :rolleyes: Full clear means killing all monsters in each and every area in the game. You don't even need to enter some of the areas, not to mention clearing them.

first of all, forget about /players 8
Altering ps helps with the job, but in the following sense:
the goal is to keep yourself at the similar level as the regular monsters around you. Once the level difference grows too large, you are loosing experience (i.e. time).

Search the forums for Nightfish's speedy guardians. He was playing hardcore, twinked using RWM. His result with a Blizzsorc was IIRC approximately 3:30 to reach guardian (killing Baal on Hell difficulty).

There is basically no chance to beat a sorceress with your objectives, teleport is too imba for the purpose. Still, you can reach reasonable times with the other classes, if you skip unnecessary quests, don't bother to find the WPs, etc. There is hardly any other general hint I can give you, unless you tell us more about the intended builds.

Another thing you want to keep in mind is the leveling guide. Doing full clears at /players 8, sometimes I suddenly find I'm not leveling fast enough. Consulting this guide tells me where I should be to get the most experience.

@Ugla
i think while questing and playing through normal and nm, players 8 grants fast levelling (i do so with my other chars), but i want a little different thing (as you understood). i want to spend possible min stat and skill points till 70s, then at 70s i'll decide what to do with them. and i want to try some unguided builds, fire-light sorc, martyr/charger pal, sanctuary pal with tons of %ed to demons gear etc. some of them sounds stupid i know but i want to try, thanks :)

@noobintraining

yes i know this guide but i was forgot it, thanks for reminding that :)

i'm off now to absorb some guides :grin:

much thanks :)

From my experience, even /players 5 causes my chars to become over-levelled, but I do collect the WPs and finish all quests :wink3: Still, p8 will definitely be too much until you start to tele-rush your sorc skipping the entire areas.

The fire sorceress is IMO the fastest character to beat the normal&NM difficulty. On Hell, you need to kill the Infector's pack and kill/park the Lister's. I guess using some special setup (enchanted Buriza, whatever..) for the former should be more effective than taking any backup skill (even FO) and weakening your primary killers.

Though the fire mistress will be lacking behind the Blizzy on Hell difficulty due to increasing resistances of common creatures (I'm not talking about immunes here), I still believe she'll beat her in total time due to much faster progress throughout the Normal. The lightning tree doesn't contain any fire&forget skill, while sharing the disadvantages of both the others (weaker starting spell, no -%resists from mastery).

When I want to go fast, I twink on a big-hurty weapon for A1 like Khalim's flail or any other appropriate stick and then run Act 1 on /players 8 until I cannot 1 or 2 hit kill anymore. When I'm level 9, I hire a Rogue merc and equip her with my 5-socket short war-bow filled with jewels of envy. In Act 1, I just follow the path and don't do any side quests. If I see a boss pack, I kill them. Around the Inner cloister or so, I switch to /players 1. I'll usually finish Act 1 around clvl 15-18. Acts 2-3 continue running, only doing the necessary quests. by this time, you should have your main killing skill and nothing is really a problem. Once you get to Act 5, you can do some major leveling at Pindle and Baal. For Nightmare, do the same thing, /players 1 and go as fast as possible to Act 5 where you can do your major leveling.

I think you'd probably have to plan your build before doing this however.

Check out the "quest for the Ber" thread for more information on speedy blizsorc methods. It has good twink gear and I think some of the ideas are easily applicable to other builds.

Hmm, let's see...

P8 is definitely too much to go all the way, because soon you'll be way ahead the monster level and the increased health of the monsters only slows you down. To get startet, you'll need P8 though... I usually do P8 maybe up to Cain, and then go down to P5 when I want to advance quickly. Don't collect all WPs, especially in A3 and A5. Some in A2 may be skipped as well, but most of the time I just stumble over them. In A3, I often end up with Lower Kurast being my first WP. In A5, proceed along one of the area borders.

It gets more difficult when you don't want to spend too many skill and stat points. Early on, a rogue merc with tons of poison (3os hunter bow, 4os breast plate, 3os circlet, all filled with emeralds... you'll need several sets with increasing quality of gems, to be used when the appropriate level is reached) is all you need and you can stay away from enemies. There is no general advice what to do with your main char until we know more about class and what exactly you are willing to use (stat/skill points, equip) until level 70. You could take the described rogue equip and replace him with a defiance merc in A2 normal, and holy freeze in A2 NM... or start twinking some (depends on class)...

after reading these guides, i realised that i'm already doing this fast levelling tactics. also, i learned some new item twinking ways with crap jewels i was selling them before :laugh: thanks guys...

but, i was asking for a faster thing than this, esp from 45 to 70s, like people do in MP games. i think its too fast for SP.

i think i'll continue to build chars by questing at players 8 and by following the Denis's Level Up Guide.

much thanks to you all :)

Nah. Get the modified err... file thingy which allows you to self host -> build enchantress -> host with char, who wields Kuko Shakaku, and lot's of IAS. At 45, selfush till NM act 5. Clear Bloody Foothills till ~55, then move on to NM Baal runs, until lvl 70. I actually usually go farther then 70 on NM Baal. More like 75, sometimes even higher, just to be on the safe side in Hell then.

modified DLL file? i tried it once a while ago but didn't work. i can try fast user switching, but the drawback to make a sorc first, discourages me :(

i'll try it with one of my high level chars and with enchant charges from the demon limb

thanks for advice :)

But the drawback to make a sorc first, discourages me :(

You only really need to get to level 45 for the enchantress to be superbly effective. That's when you can start wearting +3 fire gear (circlet/amulet). That should only take a few hours at most. If you have trouble leveling up more than that join some MP games. Everybody loves an enchantress.

If you need some help with gear I'm sure I can scrounge up a circlet and an amulet. I think...

i've a sorc currently at lvl 11 :tongue:

building a sorc really bored me in SP because i don't like caster characters too much (the only one was a fishymancer (if its a caster) completed the hell few days ago and it absorbed my all d2 fun in a few hours), i've a sorc project but i need a break from casters and i need to learn lots of things about them :)

also your advice is really good, casters bore me in SP but in a party it can be fun. i'm planning some unguided builds and am reading druid, assassin, sorc forums and other great stuffs in general, i couldn't decide yet :(

much thanks for your offer, i may need some items when i decided builds, but i don't like free items. :rolleyes: we can make a fair trade. thank you very much :)
