farm rune contest

well, im not actually looking for a quick way to get rich, but kind of a contest with yourself to get the runes you want/need legitimately in any way you can. i have 2 copies of D2, but i dont feel its worth taking the time to rush 1 character from norm-hell and the trouble with g-rushing him to get 1 hf and some socket quests. i would rather use that time with mf/key-running and pick up whatever runes i find on my way, and eventually i will get the runes i want.

i know i said i would keep posting my finds, but i haven't been able to do that lately. i just finished organizing my runes, and after a bit o a lucky streak, i have found out i need to get a weapon for my smiter. last wish is out of the question, but i was thinking of silence in a phase blade. how would that work against the ubers?

here is the rune list (thul and up):

2 pul, 3 lem, 2 ko, 5 io, 2 hel, 4 dol, 2 sol, 4 shael, 5 amn and 8 thul.

now to all you people doing ubers, is using a vex for silence worth it?

If you are looking for higher runes its really no point in collecting such low runes. One single hf with some luck is more than your entire collection. I dont want to spoil the quest but my point is that hf-rushes are much more effective.

Lets say you eventually get that Lo rune, then perhaps all your runes lem and lower will have contributed about 1/100 of the "rune value" to cube everything up. Just finding a gul on hf would be 48 lems? Countess just isnt that generous.

My advice for weapon is 1handed Oath (in etheral weapon obviously). Costs mal and pul though but has lots of dmg, attack speed and prevent heal.

after i started my own quest to get all the runes i need for a grief on my own by cubing i understood how difficult it is to get those high runes. what i want with this thread is a to make people understand how difficult it is the get something yourself. sure everyone can get a ebotdz if they want to, but how many have one with runes that are self foun/cubed?

calling this a contest might not be the right description, but it can surely turn into one. you can set your own goals, places to run, and post the current amount of runes you have.

let me start out with an example:

goal: get Lo for grief runeword (i allready have mal)
places i run: countess obviusly, andariel, summoner and mephisto.
runes atm:will post this soon.

That's why there is this thing called trading.

It will take forever to cube a highrune unless you do many hellforge runs and get lucky.
4 Guls would already make an ohm.

if you read what i posted above, im not longer running for a Lo rune for grief. this thread was started last ladder, and i have a new goal im trying to achieve.

thanks for the input though

edit: true donn. i dont want to trade for the runes. thats the whole idea. when i sometime in the future actually can afford the item i want, i will value it so much more than if i traded for it.
