Everyone go bot hunting

has anyone every tried it in hc? I think I've seen a few "annie for 9999" and I was wondering what the heck is a 999 before I read this thread.

Anyone else on HC can say if they have seen games like this too. That would be hilarious, imagine the time they would have to spend to remake bots.

Do you guys think that these bots are gathering any sort of wealth? I havne't really seen any uniques drop from any of these guys. Seems like they're just geared for max resists/block and might have one or two +skills and tiny MF somewhere.
Or maybe that's all you need for Pindle/Shenk/Eldritch?

Well, even with no mf you'll still get a few things out of how ever many hundred runs a day. It's almost statistically mandatory.
If there are similar ad bots in HC, I really doubt they mf. They probably just sit in town for obvious reasons.

I havent seen any bots in HC, Any sane person wouldn't have there 90 char botting PUBLIC.

It would be fun to make a fake bot that camps wp, And someone comes to pk it and kills them...:D

Hm

Edit: jwmoor, Antis sometimes arnt as fast as others hacks, It could be tppked fairly easily.

mfin while the bots are doing trav has been very good today, 100 psn sc, 2/12/20 sc, 186 skulders, 3/16/19 schutas.

Edit: I have no idea about bot action/reaction speeds, but like you said it wouldnt really be worth it doing public mf/ad runs.

Sounds like fun :D

If I ever get a character decent enough to try and kill them, I'll go bot hunting :)

It depends on the build, of course, but you really don't need to be all that good. Keep in mind that these guys are magic find bots, so they aren't going to fight back. The only times I've died are when I've been too aggressive about chasing them into packs of monsters, and the monsters kill me. I would guess that any of the characters you mentioned in your "How do you make money from nothing" thread could do the job.

Trap assassin would be a joke. Head for a waypoint, lay down some traps, wait. Battle over. Pick up your money.

Your fireball/orb sorceress could probably do it. I kill them with a meteorb, which is largely the same thing. As soon as they reach the waypoint, I drop a meteor and immediately switch to fireball. They're usually dead from fireball before the first meteor lands, and if not, the meteor makes sure. I'm probably a little better equipped than you though, so it's possible that your fireball wouldn't be strong enough. Give it a try.

The javazon I'm not sure about. Lightning Fury's strength is obviously against large packs. One on one it's really not that special, so it might not work so well against these guys. Hard to say. I'm not a PvP guy, so I don't know.

Trippy. I woudln't have thought fireballs would do enough if they were indeed equipped with The Rising Sun amulets. My FC sorc certainly didn't put a dent in 'em. And that's even with a level 2 Lower Resists, haha.:afro:
Builds I've seen nuke a bot pretty well: Hammerdin, CS zon, Trapsin, Blizzard sorc.

I wonder if they'd pick up a good rune if it dropped?

interesting point MYK, about the runes. Can a bot be programmed to ignore low runes and only get specifc ones? i assume so. I have seen a shael in the council rubble, so lets keep a check on what the highest rune left behind is.

As to what kills them quickly, I imagine a glass cannon would kill them pretty quickly, but expensive to make. Necro with amp and CE would obviously devastate and would be very cheap and easy to make. Could do it by lvl 50 odd maybe???
I tried a frosty but they cant be frozen so i couldn't get the finishing kill in.

Trapper is what ive been using for my 70 odd ears so far and it is very very easy to the point of being a joke. Infinity on merc (which rarely dies :)) sometimes their dead before i even get DS down.

I would think that they would pick up a good rune. I use a lit only build doing 12k lit damage, some of the bots die fast, others have better lit res and chicken at the last second.

Edit: i have seen them leave a dol rune at trav

Yeah, I wondered about that, but I really haven't had any major trouble with them. I've killed bots in the funs?d series, the g?g-tom series, and several others. Occasionally they survive long enough to heal and move on from the waypoint to Eldrich and/or Shenk, but I don't think any of them has been able to chicken out of the game before they die.

My fireball damage is listed as 9807-10677. Meteor is 20448-21280. I don't wear any facets or other damage increasing / resistance lowering gear. Like I said, it usually doesn't get to the point where a meteor actually hits them, but if one does, they never survive it. I'm not sure how many fireballs can be cast before a meteor drops (with 105 faster cast rate), but I'd guess it's about 4 or 5 to kill them.

My current procedure, assuming I arrive in the game early enough is:

1) Party with them and work together on the council. This lets me steal drops and money and also get a small amount of experience for my efforts.

2) Take their TP back to town (why waste my own?) and go hostile as soon as I get there.

3) Heal at Ormus while I wait for the waypoint use delay to pass.

4) Take the waypoint to Frigid Highlands and clear any nearby monsters. Wait.

5) As soon as he appears at the waypoint, cast one meteor and then fireball the heck out of him. He's typically dead before he decides to move.

I've tried remaining in the party and cooperating on Eldrich, then killing him at Shenk, but that doesn't work so well for me. He moves away from the waypoint more quickly for Shenk, so I usually miss my chance there. When he actually gets to Shenk, there are enough monsters around him that I get myself killed fairly often that way. By going hostile before Eldrich I can usually get him at the waypoint, and if I fail, I can always get him while he works on Eldrich.

They're pretty quick about picking up things they think are interesting, so I'm not really very good at stealing drops from them, but I did get a half decent Gheed's from one guy tonight. He already had one (so did I), so he couldn't pick it up, but I managed to get a mule into the game to claim it.

i would bet they have no charms and crap gear, so poor light res. However doesn't light damage start at 1? range 1-10000 (or whatever)?

i think 1 biggie and he's toast, luck out with some smallies and he gets a chance to pot or s/e. Even after mb and on slivers of health he's escaped me...

They actually party you? o_O

Apparently they accept party invites which understandly is easy enough to program a bot to do. Obvious advantge for bot too.

Well, if they're using Wizard Spike, and a Thundergod's Vigor belt they've got at least some lightening protection. I'm not quite familiar with the armor they're wearing.

My fireball damage is listed as 9807-10677.
Holy Moly! That's quite a bit! In that case you should have much trouble. That's into the range of 'can't really be absorbed!'

I like to arrive early enough that I can hammer them to death at the Travincal waypoint.

If not then, I go kill 'Eld' then camp with the hammers going. Very few times have they escaped my weak hammer fields(current damage is somewhere around 3k so around 500 after PVP penalties, I think)

The AI built on what to pick up is sort of funny. They'll leave some strange rares on the ground, but others they snatch up almost instantly. They don't seem to notice anything left in town- I dropped a bloodletter in front of them a few times to check.

I wish they'd tell me how they manage to tank pindles punks while kicking butt. I get nailed everytime I follow them in there.

i got 16 today, gambled gold already, my friend said one took his tp, then quickly left for some reason.

im killing with my bone necro

Yeah, I realized as I was typing it that my damage has gone up more than I paid attention to :embarassed:. I've managed to get myself into some pretty nice equipment, and I finally found a sorceress torch a few days ago. I also recently hit level 90, so I'm pretty well synergized at this point.

What gear do you use? What's your skill point distribution? And what level are you O_O
I don't see why everyone is so surprised at that damage range. When I was into pure fire sorceress, their fireball damage was always in the range of 26k, with Meteor damage being closer 52k.

About this bot-hunting thing, excellent idea but I don't have the patience and was never into PvP. :azn:
