Drops?

well i was thinking as i got 6 Lightsabres and an Azurewrath now from Meph and never see a Skulder's, maybe the game favor more some items drop and to find others or you need to make another char or reinstall the game. i have changed my maps the last one net me 3 Lightsabres and many rares.

what do you think about?

Drops are related to a whole number of things, one of which is map seed. Some maps just naturally drop more XXX than others, and often in about the same spot. There was a thread on this a while ago, which used the -seed command as proof. In it, the player got the same item (a elite unique something, like a WF) with the same fingerprint when they killed a certain pack (Venom Lords?) near the entrance to the Throne. This was also observed when killing Eldritch near one of the sidewall rocks where he spawns.

Often, if a pindle runner (most common MF target) is being dry, the player will switch map seeds in an effort to "re-energize" the drops. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

So no, it isn't about making a new char or reinstalling the game. It is, as Hrus said, all about random numbers generated from a whole variety of different aspects. For more on item generation, see the thread in the community (?) forum. There's an extremely detailed FAQ on it.

The Drop Machine must hate you or you have the worst luck around. 6 Lightsabres? Is there any use to even one?

You might want to consider changing your Mf run...maybe Mephisto is running dry lol

I can't comment for 1.10/1.11, since I just upgraded, but I have a personal (unproven, likely to be just superstition) theory for this kind of thing.

Since you brought it up, I would like to elaborate:

I did most of my life's MFing in 1.09, so that's where I get me ideas (hunches) from.

My experience leads me to believe this:

Probability of item types not only depends on the known MF formulas, but also on Character !

I began serious MFing once I upgraded to 1.09 from 1.07. The first Character to do her duty was my MFing Sorc (Orb/Hydra). She did mostly Mephisto.
I was getting bored at evading his attacks so I converted a Polebarb by switching heavy MF gear on him and suddenly I saw different items more frequently.

Next I went to see good old Baal on a habitual basis with the Barb, later with a LF Zon (Mowed down the Throne room friends faster)

My feeling is this:
Sorcs find more of: Bows and Helmets/Gloves
Barbs get more: Throwing Weapons, Armours, Boots
Zons net more: Maces/Hammers, Belts
Melee Chars are more suitable to find Sorceress Orbs

This may be totally due to randomness of MF work in the first place, but I sure feel that this is the way it is. The reason why I came to think of this is that my Sorc never found some of the elite Armours, even doing Hell Baal extensively, I never found a T-Gods Belt in a year with the Barb but the Zon found 6 in 3 month and the Barb is solely responsible for half of all my boots grail and a load of Lycander's Aims that the other 2 never found. Other item find results hint in the same direction and my Mules of certain periods definitely hint in the same direction, too.

I am aware, that this may all be noobish crap, but I personally strongly feel that it is related to the character type, an observation supported by many untwinked levelling finds. (My favvourite example: None of my Sorcs(and I play many) ever found a Vipermagi or Arcaine's, my Barbs do...

Does this make sense ? I have often thought it is down to mapseed, but I have sometimes switched maps (by changing difficulties) for my 3 main MFers and the tendencies persist.

Does anyone have a similar feeling, or is this just related to luck ?
(No idea about Pindle, I don't like running him, but it holds for Shenk/Eldritch whom I often smash before running Baal)

Probably this is all a load of crap, but I can't help feeling this way. Superstition is possibly another part of the Diablo fun...

Humans tend to try find patterns where they don't exist. Although computers cannot produce totally random numbers, I would still say it's your own imagination playing tricks on you.

true, humans try to find patterns.

saw a show on the discovery channel about ghosts, and it would show pictures and u'd see a face right away..and its just a cloud in the sky...or water waves, smoke from a cig. etc. but u LOOK for familiar patterns.

good stuff though:thumbsup:

Yup, all just superstition and such. ;) But as long as you're having fun, it's all good.

While I may be superstitious, it does seem to me that, at least for racks, there is something in the mapseed/method of the run still. From the weapon rack in the durance, I get an inordinate number of bec-de-corbin drops, while the armor rack seems to prefer sharkskin belts and royal shields...one never knows...

Some mid-level items are much more rare than others of similar qlvl because of how the treasure classes are composed. Also, weapons are twice as common as armors, in general.

The treasure class that holds Skullder´s Ire (and also Vampire Gaze, for that matter) is quite commonly picked in the late game, but it contains a large number of item types. This makes the individual items more rare. You don´t find many Russet Armors or Grim Helms anywhere, which of course means that unique versions of these item types are hard to find. The Herald of Zakarum is even worse: even if you roll the correct TC, you have only a 4% chance that a Gilded Shield will drop. Then figure your odds for it being unique on top of that...

Compare this to the IK Maul, which is a common find from many MF targets. First it´s a weapon. Second, it´s not in a crowded tresure class. The TC number is pretty high (76) but once this TC is picked, you have 20% chance of an Ogre Maul dropping.

Well I don't know anything about drop calcs. (I will read the guide some day) but there is something about racks and maps. The thing PowerDispatcher describes is way too common to be coincidence.

Rack drops are different from monster drops, they are much more strongly corealated to the map seed. There are only a handful of different item types that a given rack on a given map will drop. This was really apparent in one of the patches a while back, and was lessened somewhat, but it still seems to be somewhat true.

Rack running for a specific set/unique is still a viable strategy... probably the only one for gaining a particular drop within the game.

Of course, like any other typically forumite, I've tested none of these claims and might be full of it myself.

It is all a load of crap, I agree, but:

If 1.07 wasn't the way it was, tell me why I had a reason to run racks in 1.07 Kurast ? There is a good guide out there(sorry I forgot the name of the author), telling you how to farm 1.07 racks for items, rerunning the same rack for the same item class in Kurast.... (And Boy, did it work !)

It taught me 2 things:

1: Any little variance in gaming affects MF, (including but not limited to, since all the real MF guides are more true than my superstition, Mapseed, MF %, Level and area)

2: I don't upgrade/ transfer any items from Patch to Patch, I now installed 1.11 and this spells restart for me !
My problem entirely, since a 1.07 Arcaine's is kinda cool... ("May the Power of Arcaine protect you !" for the D1 Fans out there)

Hey, I even believe Character has an influence on it - where is the guy telling me "BIG MISS NOOB" ?

That's because rack's drop mechanics work differently than monster drops.

PS. BIG MISS NOOB :D

even in 1.11 i did some LK runs for runes and i got some racks that dropped me every time the same item. Ex: one was struck with ghost spears and at every run that would net me a ghost spear. i din't pop that so much until an unique but you could change maps until you have the desired item struck and run that rack until unique will pop up
P.S: i got another Lightsabre

yeah ive seen teh rack thing happen...

doing meph runs with my barb the armor rack next to him dropped a horned helm 12 runs straight...

the only 2 vamp gazes i've ever found were on b.net and both from a armor rack in durance lvl2
