Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc der

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

the base for beast doesn't matter since you aren't using it except for to transform. If you can't afford to get the double dream, you should forego all lightning damage and get fire skillers and just do an enchant build instead. The dreams provides around 55-60k light damage depending how many +skills you get. All other lightning sources will get maybe 1k (withough gold sc's which cost more than the dreams anyways) which will give 5-6k light damage. Significant, but nothing compared to the dreams.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Thanks for replying gooback. I would really like to try this build out, just gonna take a while to earn those light gcs. I was wondering though, is using a 6 shaeled PS faster than using a passion phase blade?

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Not even close. a sorc will top out at 11 fpa with a pb. Zeal hits 4 fpa. It ends up being about 30% faster in the end once you take everything into account I believe.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Thanks kestegs. If that is the case, why not use a passion for this build with the faster attack and damage?

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

According to Titanseal a sorc's Zeal goes at 7 fpa at its fastest, which is still a whole lot faster. Unfortunately you can't use anything other than normal attack when you're in bear form (and not a druid).

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Ah.. I didn't realize that. Thanks hubb. I completely forgot about that you can only use normal attacks.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Sorry, that info was from memory and i forgot it was in bear form.

Actually it says you can reach 5 fpa normal attack with 95% weapon IAS on a PB in wearform. That is a whole lot faster than a 7 frame zeal.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

If you are going to go the shael phase blade route, make sure not to use 6 shaels as that is a waste of sockets. If you can use 4 shaels, a 15% ias jewel with some sort of resistance or other mod you will find useful to your build and then fill in the last socket with the rune or jewel of your choice. An eth rune in the last socket is a common inexpensive choice and will improve your chance to hit. You could even go so far as use a Jah rune if you so choose or whatever else you want depending on how costly you want to get.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

I thought this build was interesting and decided to give it a shot. My gear is all perfect and I don't have all the GCs(I have 3 currently) but this build is still doing some major damage and I am really enjoying it. I am currently level 79

Gear
Dream bone visage helm
Dream troll nest shield
AP Coh
Maras
waterwalks
phaseblade with 5 shael and a jah
TGods(went with this over arach)
2 raven frost

Beast ettin ax and spirit on switch

still need decent gloves

Skills
20-lightning mastery
20-enchant
20-shiver armor
20-warmth(went with this over fire mastery to help with tele)
1-tele
6-other required skills
rest-fire mastery

stats
strength-174
dexterity-235
vitality-302(rest is going in here)
energy-79(base)

I also have an act 2 devensive merc with infinity

resistances
Fire-80
Cold-75
Lightning-85
poison-75

2-46k damage(each GC adds about 2k damage, so add 6 more and should be at around 58+what ever fire mastery gives)
6015 attack rating
12,370 defense with merc aura
7482 defense without merc
1843 health without BO

Overall it comes as advertised. Everything dies in 1 or 2 hits, killed diablo in about 3 seconds, Baal in probably 7 or less(mostly because I missed). Definitely a good, different build that I would recommend trying if you can get the stuff for it.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

I finally built this, though using 5 plain light GCs for now so the damage is around 60k.
I put 5 shaels and a random lightning damage jewel (like 1-86 or so, with some ed%)

However, I managed to make beast in a 2-handed axe, which is obviously a huge fail as it means switching out both cta and spirit every time, leading to a very bulky procedure every few minutes.
Before I fail at this again, what base do you use for beast?

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Personally I would put it in a Berserker's axe. It has 138 str required, which is less than spirit of course, and it is useful for another buld that may actually want to swing it.

I'd say put beast in the lowest str/dex requirement base as possible. This is entirely up to your style and which builds you prefer to concentrate on. But in my experiences, most builds that are worth using beast don't require you to actually swing beast at any enemies and therefore you can make more use out of the extra stat points you save from worrying about strength.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

This is a nice guide. Much better than the other one by some doosh who apparently has since been banned.

I have a couple of questions:
With the -83% from Conviction, AR boost from high enchant, is Metalgrids or Jah necessary?
Since your inventory is full, do you have to make two trips out of town just to prebuff, one to cast BO, a second to get to roll with your beast?
What about lifeleech, how do you replenish your life? Potions?
Also, as far as I was aware, the compounding effect of +skill damage% (Masteries) only applies to skills. Elemental damage from gear, or those charms only is effected once.

I imagine this build is somewhat offensively biased (seems like an understatement). So a little sacrifice to AR shouldn't be a huge deal. To that end, since we're talking ridiculous costs, why not use 5xIAS/Resists Jewel & a Shael. You'd have 75 resists and the requisite 95 IAS. With a decently high clvl, you should be hitting just fine.

Another idea would be to use 5x40/15's in your phase blade which will give you enough damage to utilize lifetap (provide it can proc before everybody dies). Or at least use a little LL.

Another idea, swap out Spirit for Phoenix for a quick post-slaughter rejuvination.

Also, could ES and a decent Gbane work? Then you could swap out both Ravenfrosts for SoJ's & Frostburn for skills and mana boost. Put that good high warmth to good use. Instead of points into an armor skill, use your +skills for a decent prebuff, but invest hard points into Telekenesis. A memory staff should get you a prebuff of slvl 20ish ES (75% dam to mana at 75% conversion). You'll still lose a little life of course, but it'll be muted to 25%. Gbane should then cancel out most of that. Sure, mana burn could dump your blue orb, but you'd still be okay with a decent life bubble from Lyc & WB. The idea is to try to balance the two.

I don't see why you wouldn't use ES (aside from it looking ugly). With the right setup, you'd have the equivalent of 5 slvl 20 Prayer Auras running at the same time. You're not using your mana for anything but prebuffs, so what do you have to lose. You'd take damage to your blue bulb, but you wouldn't have to worry about using pots until your red bulb (also boosted) started to drain. Since your damage is already ridiculous, invest in 20x 17/20 charms, each of which would get you 35 mana and 47 life.

Since mana is only used for life, you'd be looking at an equivalent life bubble of about 5,000 hp w/ 5x slvl 20 prayer, all the while dishing out 30K average damage.

^Ye, but stacking two Dream auras (or HoJ/Dragon) isn't the glitch. This still works fine.

^^Yep, elemental damage from charms/gear is affected by LM once.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

is this a viable leveling/noob MFing build as well? i've just come back to D2 after about 3 years and lost everything so starting fresh. Id love to know if this is good for leveling and noob MFing and if its not could someone point me to a good guide for that till i get high up and can respec and try this build out.

So, I just started playing the Diablo again 3 weeks ago, after a 5 year break. I started with the Bearsorc and in that 3 weeks I've pretty much perfected her and I have many high value items--granted, I spent a lot of time playing. But, to answer your question, yes, she does make a great leveling/mfing starter build just by virtue of being a sorc. I started out using a Meteororb sorc and eventually respec'ed when I had the level and wealth to buy my Bearsorc gear. Now that she's up and running she's a little low on MF, but that can be overcome with armor, boot, belt, glove, and charm choice; however, if you build her right, she can do any kind of run: Andy, Countess, Summoner, Mephy, Chaos, Nithalak, Baal, and pits and such. And she can do it quickly.

Thanks mate, ill have to figure out how to play this char as a low lvl since i wont have much hp and all gonna be hard im sure. any tips?

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

Well, like I said, your best bet is to make some kind of caster in your lower levels. You won't be able to use beast or dreams until clvl 65 anyway. So just look over the guides section and go with whatever you want until you reach a high level with more wealth. Probably, though, you'll want to avoid a melee type build until then.

Re: Dream Bearchantress guide, the "ultimate" melee sorc

ahh and i guess i should figure out how to get all these named weapons also xD cuz this guy right here...me..yup....he is stupid xD
