Does Hell Andy drop hoz?

All act bosses from act 2 mightmare on can drop a HoZ. However, only nightmare Mephisto, hell Andariel with her bugged drop and hell Mephisto are worth it IMO, as it takes too long to reach and kill the others.

Drop chances (0%MF, 1 player game):

Hell Andariel 1st drop: 1 in 6523
Hell Mephisto: 1 in 7095
Nightmare Mephisto: 1 in 8500

The relations of these numbers don't change much if you have a MF bonus. However, Andarial might become better to a greater extent in games with more than 1 player.

To my taste, hell Mephisto is best because you can reach him far quicker than Andariel and he drops lots of other good stuff as well. He is also safer to kill if you lure him to the moat and go to the other side, to shoot him from a safe distance (a.k.a. the moat trick, see the sorc forum for further details).

The numbers come from the builtin drop calculator of ATMA (single player muling progrem). The link is found in my sig.

But are the drop rates for the Realms the same as those for SP?

As far as I know, they're the same. The only thing that may change is # of players, but Atma has a feature to calculate the changes with more players in the game.

How can Hell Meph have a better chance than NM Meph?

Im not sure but i think it has something to do with the quality level of hoz or the base type shield.

I will let some one like hrus or krischan or orphan explain it better

The distribution of droppable TCs is like a bell curve (not exactly one), i.e. low probabilities for the low and high end of the possible TCs and high probabilities for those in the middle. That's why hell Baal is so bad at dropping TC3 stuff BTW.

Nightmare Meph is barely able to drop gilded shields (TC51), so it's at the high end. Only TC 3 and TC 54 are less probable for him. Hell Meph can drop from up to TC78, so even though the TC distribution curve is flatter than for nm Meph, the TC of a gilded shield is more in the middle of hell Meph's distribution curve which leads to a higher chance of dropping it.
