Do you imbue?

Since about my 3rd character I haven't used an imbue quest (although I always get the malus), and I think there are a lot of other forumites who seldom bother also. But, potentially you can get a nice item (not that you ever do get a nice item, but there's potential).

So do you use your imbue quests, or not?

Also, I know it's been discussed, but feel free to post the item type(s) you imbue.

As a player who plays each area only once and never twink, my item pool is limited. So of course I use my imbues, but only for potential end-game worthy items. Elite weapons (imbued at clvl 74+) for my merc is the most common choice. After that, it´s elite weapons for my character if it´s fighter-oriented, or a class-specific item. With a caster character, I may imbue a circlet type headgear, if I have a chance to get alvl 90 with it and I can´t gamble such items for a while, and my current headgear isn´t great.

Mostly crappy results, of course. But once in a while, luck strikes. This is the bow for my assassin´s merc in the Skill-less tourney:

Bone Loom
Great Bow

Two-Hand Damage: 31 to 138
Required Dexterity: 107
Required Strength: 121
Required Level: 51
Bow Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 83
Fingerprint: 0x28dedc69
+166% Enhanced Damage
+195 to Attack Rating
Adds 1-28 lightning damage
20% Increased Attack Speed
5% Chance to cast Level 1 Amplify Damage on striking

I save the imbues until a high enough level for tiaras, diadems, and class specific items except Necro heads as I have a bunch of these from questing. Out of 3 imbues I have used I got 1 good one, a rare tiara posted in the 4/23/06 Item Thread. http://www.purediablo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=450655&page=3

I am saving a bunch of normal +3 Matriarchal Javelins which one of the racks next to Hello Mephisto generates regularly on my MFers map to imbue. I hope to get something like a Titans Revenge with 40% IAS, cruel damage, mana leech and replenish stack, highly unlikely but it hopefully I can get this for the style points to use on a javazon.

I like doing that Act 1 quest each difficulty so I might as well attempt to benefit from completing it. I think the quest is excellent for untwinked builds to get have a chance to get a nice rare of your choice.

The only time I remember actually getting anything really useful was when I imbued a circlet thingy with a high level fireclaw bear. I got +2 druid skills, +2 fireclaw, as well as life and resists. Otherwise, I usually end up with nothing special.

Quite often I'll waste them on general crap until I get my character up to a level to twink some nice gear on them.

But aside from that I never get anything impressive.

My best? Well IMO, the imbue my HC sorc(RIP) got in Nightmare is worth a mention...

Havoc Whorl
Smoked Sphere
One-Hand Damage: 4 to 10
Durability: 35 of 35
(Sorceress Only)
Required Level: 42
Orb Class - Normal Attack Speed
Item Version: 1.10 Expansion
Item Level: 55
Fingerprint: 0xb5a91a29
+16 to Life
+28 to Mana
Adds 23-41 fire damage
+2 to Sorceress Skill Levels
20% Faster Cast Rate
+3 to Chain Lightning (Sorceress Only)
+1 to Glacial Spike (Sorceress Only)
+2 to Fire Ball (Sorceress Only)
5% Chance to cast Level 3 Fire Bolt on attack

I'm voting for
Yes, when the quest is available
although I usually do wait a while, until Act II, anyway. I don't wait so long that the 3rd choice is applicable.

Usually I imbue a 16-socketed belt. But if I already have a nice 12-socketed belt, sometimes I imbue gloves or boots which usually is worth it. I tried imbuing a shield a couple of times and got garbage. Once, I took a chance and imbued a plain bone wand for my Normal-level necromancer and got:

Empyrian Bar Bone Wand
One-hand Damage: 3 to 7
Durability: 15 of 15
Required Level: 16
Staff Class - Very Fast Attack Speed
+1 Summoning Skills [Necromancer Only]
+30 to Attack Rating
+80 to Poison Damage
6% Mana Stolen per Hit
+2 Raise Skeletal Mage [Necromancer Only]
+3 Iron Maiden [Necromancer Only]
+2 Amplify Damage [Necromancer Only]
Hit Causes Monster to Flee 50%
+14 to Energy
+3 to Light Radius
50% Damage to Undead

which I thought was pretty nice.

I always use the imbue because, why not? Even if it's something I don't want, I can still sell it and buy or gamble for something else.

BTW,
like jiansonz, I don't twink at all, and I don't have mules or use ATMA for a bigger stash.

I usually finish the Imbue quest, but rarely actually use the imbue. On the occasions when I have done, it's been 25% good stuff 75% rubbish. I prefer to wait for an item that might be imbue worthy to show up, something I might use for awhile.

And then pray Charsi doesn't pull an Anya on me

If I happen to run into the Smith while looking for the entrance to the next level, I'll kill him. But I won't go out of the way to complete that quest. I never bother imbuing anyway.

always hoping for some 4xx% percent mods ..... unfortunately this has not happend yet.

sometimes i also imbue necroheads.

I don't imbue, personalize or socket...waiting for something really good to use them with. I got to tell you, though, my obsessive compulsive side kicks in when I see those quests "incomplete." (<i>*shaking fiists*</i> Errr, must get evey waypoint & quest!)

I imbue whenever I find something good to imbue, not necessarily a high level though. Sometimes, it's worth the wait though, as I have seen something decent come by on a few occasions.
