Re: D3: No LAN play.
MukTuk is correct in his assessment, however Mods have some latitude as to what we accept.
The policy of this site is and always has been no hacks, cheats etc. However the SP has always had some latitude when it comes to the EULA and ToS.
To give you two specific instances:
1) ATMA (and GoMule) officially contravene that too. However, both are allowed on the SP(T)F - once ATMA was altered to remove editing opportunities. It was recognized that there was a huge benefit to the SP community. I don't think I'd be still playing without it.
2) The modified .dll is allowed in the SPF and SPTF but not elsewhere on diii.net (and as we have seen recently, on Battlenet). It was accepted approximately two years ago because of a change in position of a loader. The loader was not accepted but not explicitly prohibited. There were two frequently used excuses for using it:
a) Multiple instances
b) No CD required
By saying "mount the image" and "use the .dll" both of those reasons became non-existant and allowed us to say "you will not use that or discuss it here". That eliminated the possibility of the nasties of it but allowing the SP community the benefit of the good parts of it.
Sometimes we do walk a fine line - as the recent bannings which included use of the modified .dll showed. But on balance we stay true to the no hacks and cheats while enabling the SP community to play with a little more latitude than the rest of diii.net.
Any questions feel free to PM myself and sirpoopsalot rather than drag this very important thread off-track. Thanks.
