Confused Andariel or Mephisto

Hey all,

I'm on ladder US EAST Non hardcore :thumbsup: and have a question about magic finding. I am a lvl 83 Bliz sorc with the only average items, occy, lidless, that about it. When I mf I usually do Andareil beacuse I can kill her without dieing, but I havne't found anything good yet. On the other hand when i try to do Meph I die 75 % of the time, but usually get somewhat average drops. What woudl you do.

FYI I have 150 mf.

if you do the moat trick with meph, you can easily kill him without dying. Do a search for it and you should be able to find a topic that has screenshots for guidance

he might have trouble with the cold immunes, and there are plenty in the pits. But if you can get through em, supposedly the pits are good. Ancient Tunnels in the Lost City has no cold immunes as well
 
I got most of my good items from meph but with meph it takes a while to for him to drop something good. Mostly depends on ur luck. I did about 40 meph runs today without getting anything good and it ended with a realm down to top it all off. So my lucky really sucks.
 
The Pits will be tough to handle if you can't deal with the Archers dealing their ranged freezing attacks. And the pits I imagine will not be rewarding as Mephisto or Andariel.

Meph I would think is easier to get to than Andariel since there is an extra catacombs level to go through. With Meph, don't be afraid to open a tp in case you need to bail out for a couple of seconds. You also need max cold and lightning resists to deal with Meph. You need to do Meph or higher TC class monster runs if you need to find gear (most likely weapons) for melee characters. It is not as important to run Meph if you are just going to stick to casters. Remember that the Council Members in Durance 3 are capable of dropping higher Treasure Class items as compared to Mephy so if you can kill them, try it out. Additionally, the armor rack and weapon rack in Durance 3 can drop up to TC84. Some people have found Tal Rasha's Guardianship there while I have got Messerschmidt's Reaver to drop from the weapon rack.
 
If you cant do hell meph, do nm meph or hell pits. Found wts, skullder and few other nice items from nm meph on new ladder.
 
The moat trick should go well with meph. However, if you can't do hell meph, just stick to nm meph. Persistance is the key. Meph will drop stuff more consistently.

The Pits, however, CAN drop anything. So, if you can and want to, run the Pits with a nm act2 defensive merc (for tanking cold immunes). Who knows? Something good will drop. Pindle's easy for blizz sorcs too. Just found unique shadowplate from him. Waiting for more needed stuff though.

BTW, I dun even have an occy :yep: and I am only using a ptopazed tarnhelm with Rhyme, and my killing speed is fine. So, you should check your resists and blocking.
 
The Moat Trick:

Tele up to meph, static him a few times, then begin to tele away slowly.. he will follow you then.

Then, tele onto the other side of the moat. you may have to move around a little bit to get a good position. Once you find a good position, meph won't launch lightning bolts or orbs at you, and you are free to blizz the hell out of him without getting hurt.

He can't get across the moat unless he goes through one of the little rooms, so as long as you are standing just far enough away, he won't hit you. :)
 
I used to die tons doing hell meph before I changed my bombing spot. What I do now is to make a upside down U around his area. First tele on the right side of the red portal up to meph - static quickly - then tele to the left side edge of the red portal and bomb him from there. I found that if I bombed from the right side his friends would join the party too often.
 
Heres a list of 1.10 item drop spots now, I am told that the bosses are capable of dropping any item in the game, and according to some NM is where stuff starts dropping now also. Good luck :)

Magic Find

Magic finding has changed alot in 1.10. There are now area levels and monster levels and drops are bound to them (if the result is not nerfing them). Some areas can generate any item in the game. Here is a list:

4 River of Flame
4 Chaos Sanctuary

5 Throne of Destruction
5 The Worldstone Chamber

The Champion and Unique monsters and their minions at these places have the capability to drop any item in the game. The Pit and Baal runs especially can be very rewarding.

Act bosses have the best drops and superuniques have still very good drops. Baal is now lvl 99. When one player defeats a boss for the first time a 'superdrop' takes place. In this drop, the drop quality is at least 'rare'.
