Cheating

As someone who once - even if somehow inadvertendly - cheated, you shouldn't really throw that stone, should you? You had to be shown what was right and wrong here, too, if I may remind you. Funny that you would strike the first matches now...
I was joking.... I guess I was came off the wrong way. I was not meaning to throw any stone. I aplogize for saying something that greatly offended you. As Wildjinn says have one free at the EMB.

Anways, it really is easy to fall into the pitfall. I would know since I fell into a deep hole and started a real mess.

It is okay to cheat in Diablo if you want. It is single player afterall and if a person finds that he/she/it gets more enjoyment doing so then he/she/it should cheat. I do not get enjoyment out of cheating and that is why I don't cheat (or at least I had tried not to...). It just gets bad, if you cheat and expect people love you and interact with you. I am forever damned for what I did and I will continue to pay for it. I can't change the Tyrael's Might seed circumstance, but I can certainly learn from it and change. Cheating does not pay and only hurts yourself. I am legit now and will continue to do so. That is all that matters to me now. If people want to shun me that is okay, I can leave. But I feel I can contribute to this community and hopefully be a good person to be around here.

Tekka i feel the exact same way you do and I could not have typed it any better  Its all about what makes you happy with yourself and the fact that you know that you are legit. If you think *twinking/editing* your characters is fun, thats great and you should do it, but in the nicest way possible, please dont trade hacked/modded/created items here. Not trying to be rude, but I am trying to help you save yourself from what i went through :( . Have fun doing w/e you do

Whoa there, guys. I'm sure NF was just surprised at the malignancy of your comment, Tekka--it did come off a bit harsh, and it seems to have bred a harsh response. We don't hate you or want you to leave, don't be silly. :)

Now, NF and Tekka--you should go head to the EMB and hoist a drink together to make up. :buddies:

And no more anger should visit this thread, hopefully. The original poster asked how people got themselves not to cheat, and we've even convinced him to go legit--and he got a free burrito out of the deal!

edit @ Eth3real: What happened was that people were using the -seed command incorrectly and didn't fully explain the ramifications of it. Tekka used the command to generate a map that so happened to drop Tyrael's, which is mostly unrelated to the map seed, but bred great contraversy. He's easily among the most obviously legit people here, IMO.

I think you have attoned for your sins Tekka. :)

In my oppinion, cheating is a bad thing and is not to be encouraged. It´s nice to see when people come over to the light side.

That being said, what you do on your own computer is your buisness as long as it doesn´t affect others in a negative way.

I am already aware of the implications. I have already deleted most of the items from those runs. Only two items remain and they will never be given away or traded. In fact, they will never be on a character for mfing/mping and any item that is found while they are in use are tainted. I have only entered a public game once with Tyrael's Might and that was because of specific request.

Well, as to what was being talked about earlier, IMO the game is more challenging and such and is more fun to find items untwinked, but sometimes you cant resist the urge to beat the crap out of stuff with a powerful char. So every once in a while I load up my PS sin and go kill somewhere. It is fast, stress relieving, and fun.

What gets me to not cheat is that I have seen people that have used trainers play, and sure they have fun for a bit, but what then? They have nothing to go for, to strive for. I have the little happy voice in my head telling me that one day I will get that BotD thunder maul (one day...) and once I do, I will be alot happier knowing I earned it legitimatly(sp?).

Sure I want to show off and be like "Look what I have", but then stirjdje will jump in and be all like "Ya, but I have THIS" and whip out uber Baal drop #342. So, no matter how hard I cheat, it still wont be worth it.

I have never used a hack, or other mod to play this game. I don't use them on other games either. Except Morrowind, in which mods exist as extra game, if you will. People make mods as extra quests, extra buildings, etc... But the game was made with a mod creator program, like NeverWinter Nights. D2 was not made with a mod maker.

Yes, I twink and mule. Some may say that's cheating. I don't.

I totally agree with other said, the quickest way to kill the fun of D2 is cheat. what is the fun to play this game if your char has million life, 95% resist to all, 100% CB + DS + OW ..., and deals couple of million damage per hit?

****The "9 years old kido (tm)" does not count. - Great work, Durf, I love it.

as for twinking vs. cheating, I consider all my characters family (I can even give you the family tree) thus what belongs to one, may be given to another who can better use it.

and for a person like myself, who is rather lousy at videogames in general, twinking doesn't 'remove the challenge' - it removes the impossiblity.

Derek, as a reward for playing the game the right way, I'll give you a 1.09 Buriza free of charge. PM me your email if interested.

Well then, we'll have to do something to reward you for that good decision. I don't have a spare Tyrael's, but I can offer you a nice shiny green substitute armor in place of it. :uhhuh:

Breast Plate?!?!?!?!?!?! :D

i was going to equip an item pack griswald's set but, then i realized i don't have an item pack, or know where to get an item pack, or have a desire to use an item pack, or had ever actually had the intention to equip the entire griswald's set from an item pack.

..........................what do i get?

Why of course then you would get to choose something from Griswold's set. *as long as it's the armor* :cheesy:

that wouldn't help me on my quest to 100 self-found griswald armors in 1.10 quest though. only 84 away :big clapper:

Whenever I feel like cheating I load up a seriously overpowered mod. Then trade the items gained from that mod into the community :uhhuh:

Those voices aren't there for me and never have been. I'll use ATMA because I think it provides a facility to the game which SHOULD have been built in, but otherwise I play the game as it was intended, bugs and all.

Here is the odd part.

I love cheating EDIT: IN baldur's gate II... well not really cheating I just "tweak" something a bit in Baldur's Gate II because I think if you are a demi-god you should be at least stronger than a human. so there.

But then, in other games cheating doesn't really sound appealing anymore. Diablo is one of those games where cheating isn't fun at all. Diablo is a game where you do not have to cheat because it rewards you in a way that it keeps you glued into the game. Unlike other games, the progress in Diablo is remarkably fast (well not if you are just reaching 99) and I don't know... I love playing Diablo and earning everything because you will reap what you sowed in due time... and that's the fun part about this game ;)
