Character Names

Tesladin called OnePinkTwoStink...
If anyone can figure this out, I am pleased... all of my other characters are much more serious names... I think... of plays on words..

Eldnip (mfer, read backwards)
and other such things along those lines...

He glad to see there are ppl who care about their chars names,
I myself cant play unless I have a decent name
Some of them are:
Meteorb Mfsorc: AngelSong
WWdruid: RisingMoon
Boltress: FrozenBolts
Hammerdin: EnigmaJahIthBer (:D)
Skelliemancer: JoBerElUm (Beta runeword "Blood")
Dc/Ps/CoT assa: DragonWings
Hydrasorc: FireDragons

to name a few...

Im not surprise that ppl do buy names. Imo its an important part of the game, I could ever play with a name like "agehsaeyhe" or anything like that which I have seen ppl do

I have a very simple method for naming my characters that almost never fails. I just use the name of the type of build the character is going to be, usually screwed with a little bit, and attach pal_ at the beginning (my made up, imaginary clan that I use as an excuse to get the name I want ). I have characters like:

pal_concy - Concentrate barb
pal_fishface - Summoner necro
pal_hammerman - Hammerdin

Did I put much thought into it? No. Does it work? Yes, even though my friends yell at me for having crappy names. :P

IK Barb: Human-Furnace (after they singer of a band called Ringworm)
Fire sorc: CookyCutterSorc
Hammerdin: Pelledin
Avenger Pally: Haxadin
Summon necro: Rotwalker
Wind Druid: Stormpaw
Spearazon: InRodsWeTrust

Orphan, you have all the nice simple names..../envy..

Never ever understood why people went through so much trouble to have certain words or terminologies as their character names.

Is it really just for the sake of having a 'cool' name?

The only real places I see cool names as useful or really of any use, is in chatrooms.

Don't see the point in having them as character names in a game, TBH.

To me, having a decent name is just as important on my 'D2 list of things' as getting good equipment. I mean, why do people strive to get chains of honor or enigmas when it's more than possible to get through hell difficulty without them.

People want the high end equipment for the same reasons they want a good character name. Either because they think it's 'cool' or because they want a 'perfect' character. I remember back in season one, where there was this one guy wearing the full Tal's set (pretty early on when I started playing, which wasn't at the start of the season). He just kept joining games over and over again, obviously showing off his armor. Same goes to this other guy who I saw in a trade game who was wearing a chains of honor, crown of ages, etc and he was just sitting in town not trading with anyone. Whenever someone said to him 'nice armor' or something of the like, he would just reply with '...', when it was obvious he was sitting there enjoying the fact that he had something better than other people and was proud to flaunt it.

Besides, a good character name could make you memorable  . Names like afbgodbad come and go as they please, but I (personally) remember people who's names stand out.

NOTE: I just remembered that another reason someone might want a good name is for PK'ing. To some, it's better to have that 'player was killed by ?????' statement look wierd or something :)

Names I can remember from past days:

Crumbletaker
Landscapegoat
Nalathni
Coparck
Paterke (first char ever on LoD)
Kroondop, Kroonkurk & Kroonluchter

Right now I have:

Landwaster
Seadreamer

Illender

So far i have:
NateDogg
Nate-Dogg
Tupac
Tupac_Shakur
Tupac-Shakur
TheNotoriousBIG
Katsuchiyo - i love this name(1000 victories in succession)
and some others...
I like names they fun to type

I started with Seaskye then did variations, they either had sea or skye in the name with the other part a generallity of the character as I also have a clan tag I don't have many problems with names. ;)

I.E.
Knightskye -Paladin
SavageSkye - Strafe Amazon
Skyerunner Magic run Sorceress
Skyefire -- Meteor Sorceress
SkyeBlue -Necro
SkyeStorm -Amazon-multi-shot
WildSkye - Amazon -Lightning fury
EST Sealightning Sorceress lightning only

Course that can get boring, So I went to
Crusher-crunchs gems into perfects
Wild-Thing - Druid /wolf/
Crafty - Assasin storage for crafting items/ blue items/gems/jewels/runes/
False-Profit ( a very old name I had from original Diablo and I just love )

For Ladder I went with Anne McCaffrey characters
Rowen-CD, (Sorceress)
Raven-CD Summoning druid

and of course everyone should have a Bob!!!!!!!!!

Seaskyecd

The only character I have that I get comments on the name is my lvl 41 necromancer named Hugo_Weaving. I get lots of Agent Smith comments/jokes. And I didn't realize his Hawkmail armor was really fitting until now (making him green, hah).

Most of my characters are named after celebrities or song titles, as I like doing that for some reason. I do have one character that is not named after a celebrity. It's a sword barbarian who's named after my boss. I was short on names that day and I like my bosses first name, so I used it, thought I had to add Mr to the beginning because the name was already taken. And actually, I like the barbarian better, because he doesn't freak me out

Only good one I've had lately (IMO) is my blade fury assassin named Daggerrhea.

Hehe...that reminds me, my sorc last ladder season, now on NL is Procrasturbatio (the n wouldn't fit). I thought it was an apt name.

 that is nasty... but great for the build. Good job.

A while ago I was making an iron barb and wanted to call him "Iron_Chef" (possibly using the butcher's cleaver, butcher being the closest in-game thing to a chef I could think of), but that was taken, so I tried "IronChef" and "Iron-Chef", which were also taken. So I went with "IronChef_Barb", which felt a bit like settling. However, on ladder season one I made a new barb and for the heck of it tried "IronChef" and it worked this time.

So, if your names aren't available, try them again every once in a while. People are quitting all the time, and accounts are expiring all the time, so your choice names might just come up.

Only new names I've come up with that are at all original are
HammyHammerster (based on the show I watched as a young'un)
Immortal_Qween - IK Sorc (minus helm of course)... bnet doesn't allow names with "King", "Queen", "Lord", etc... in them, so a touch of settling here as well.
