BOTD vs Grief

Right. Its widely said that Grief & Beast is better than BOTD & Beast

I have a perfect +415% eth BOTD zerker and +400 Damage 38ias Grief Zerker.

I decided to so some testing last night with my brother.

My brother used his character (another barb, about 15k def, no block max resi)

I used my PVP barb with full angelics 17-18k AR.

Pretty much everytime I attacked I caused more damage with the BOTD than I did with the grief, we repeated it about 10-15 times and I was repeatedly causing more damage with the BOTD (open wounds not beiung taken into account here on either of them, just the intial health loss after one ww). I also didnt seem to hit that often with the grief. And when the grief caused more damage than the BOTD it was tiny amouts, 10-15 damage, compared to the extra 500-1000 the BOTD was doing.

Plus using the grief drops my life by about 200 due to the missing +30 to all stats.

I will have to do some more testing but I am very unimpressed with it from the results last night, especially since ive been after one for ages and it cost me a hell of a lot to get hold of it.

Grief have zuber min dmg, while BOTD have low min dmg and more max dmg than grief. When you hit with BOTD dmg is picked up randomly between min and max, while in grief this difference is minimal. So sometimes grief does more dmg when BOTD got min dmg or less, if BOTD hit with max dmg.

Theoretically, lets says per 1000 hits, grief should do more dmg than BOTD.

To do objective tests your way is very difficult as you need to take in account DS, CB and CS.

Test vs chars with low (<2k) defense, currently you have almost 50% chance to miss so ww-passbys will be completely random and you'd have to do a huge amount of tests to be able to conclude anything. If you're set on testing damage i suggest you use normal attack or bash/conc and only count the actual hits when comparing. From my own extensive playing+testing grief is better overall. Botd comes close sometimes but most of the time it's way worse.

i am also a grief user but maybe a botd 415-15 really does more dmg

min+max dmg/ 2 = + 30 ed of botd bonus(30 attributes)
grief = 400+base weapon dmg =

and dont forget grief have 20%Ds if it works 1x its like 2x hitting with botd dont forget that part of it.

As the others have stated, your tests are from conclusive. If you got a few lucky Crit Strike rolls from your axe mastery, it could easily look like BOTD was doing way more damage than Grief. But the numbers don't lie, Grief has much higher average damage over time than BOTD.

I tested it on ip address about 2 years ago. Using identical barbs. Grief is way better. IF you really need to be convinced, then you need to play on ip address. I have 2 cd keys and 2 coms btw..

Anyway, if anyone who believe me, it is defintely grief. Don't waste your time testing anymore. It has already been proven.

My tests arrnt really tests, its was just done quickly to see what it was doing, I was just very unimpressed with the way it worked.

As you said I was probably just getting lucky with high damage rolls and crit strike when using the BOTD. I'll carry on using it but first impressions werent great, especially after paying an arm and a leg to get hold of the bloody thing in the first place.
