BNET Account Scammed

That what I meant You don't hear these kind of stories from peeps that have actually been here for years

I was gonna say that earlier....not that i've been here for years, but all the peeps "claiming" to have been hacked have all only been here a month or so....ironic.

Again, why would someone with inside access to passwords here (they are encrypted anyway, you'd probably have to be lucky or have lots of time) take your account and not one of the best ever?

Didn't you already make this point? twice? and yet no one seems to notice that it's TRUE!

I don't think it was someone here as my password for this forum and my old password for my b.net account were not the same. I believed the mods when they said that they can't even see our passes. I really have no idea how it happened but my money is either on a brute force password picker or somehow through RPGtraders.

do you realize how long a brute force password picker would take? Even IF you only had a three character password using only the numeral digits, that give you 1000 possible combinations. A brute force picker would start at 000 and move on to 001, 002, 003 etc. B.net doesn't allow for infinite logon attempts in a row, so the Picker would get a temp ban for trying to loggon to your account after (iirc) 5 incorrect guesses. This means there are several hours invested into getting just a three digit password.....it's so unlikley that I would deem it impossible.

And I don't know enough about rpgtraders to know if having your password hacked from there is a valid argument...

WHAT?? I thought I was the only one that used that option, I've never ever ever seen any page references that matched my setup, I don't think many people know that they can change it.

I changed it to max as soon as I found it. Lots and lots easier to browse through a thread when you don't have to click on next/prev page all the time

40 posts a page rules.
There's another forum I go to with 100 posts a page maximum, it's very nice.

The only reason I said that you were lying/exaggerating is due to the sheer lack of tangible evidence.

You say you've never downloaded any hacks or bots, never used any other 3pp's, you swear that your password is unguessable, and you've never had any failed login attempts submitted to you, I just find this all hard to believe.

Like I said before, things don't just disapear out of nowhere. It could be quite possible a glitch happend and you lost some items...but it would have been random items...not all of your godlies. It just doesn't all fit together.

This could be a possibility...but why would someone change the password back? It's just out of the ordinary for a theif to do. When people steal things, they just steal them. There's no reason to go out of their way to leave thier victim bewildered...

Like I said, I don't mean to sound mean about this, but this all seems rather unbelievable based on the information you've given us...

Is someone who knows more about this kinda stuff comes along with information that counters my argument, then i'll concede....but it just doesn't fit as of now...

I play with the guy sometimes hes very honest and if he said it happened it happened. And I know from playing with him he doesnt use mh.

well this same thing has happened 2x in last 3weeks to my son.he tried to get on and couldn't understand why his password wouldn't work..well anyway he got it changed got inot his account and his char's were wiped clean of anything good..ticked off don't even describe what he felt. he had alot of good stuff..so we get ahold of tech support who in my opinion are useless..we say oh well live and learn..so this week he rebiulds make new account..his aunt quits d2 so gives him all her stuff..full tals, full ik few other full sets..2 soj's! ethbotd! we're all physed..wooohoo back in business..yesterday he logs on ..EVERYTHING GONE!!! SO he goes into chat forum and there in chat is someone with his old account name and they whisper him saying that until he joins there little hack group they will continue getting into his accounts and taking his stuff..so please don't say this don't happen cause it does..and yes he is 25 yrs old..he is not a noob..been playing diablo since it first came out..he down give out his password heel i don't even have it..

and another thing...WE have never used mh and HE dose not beileve in duping..so don't even go there..we play thins game for the fun and believe in finding and working for the things you need..to get scammed and ripped off is well..wrong..the so called tach support people need to find away to do something to hackers and dupers

None of the last 15 or so posts have yet to explain why the OP's items are missing...and thus, i'm still not convinced. Granted, the purpose of this isn't to convince me, or anyone really. In fact, I'm not even sure what the purpose of this thread is.

The OP says he lost a bunch of high end items, het he has done nothing that would put his accounts in jeapordy, such as using hacks or 3pp's.

He says his password is an unguessable alpha-numeric combincation that is only used on b.net, and two other places.

But yet, somehow, someone managed to get his password, get into his account and steal all of his godly items?

i'm not buying it.

That is true...but the effort it would take somebody to find an open unrestricted port on this guys computer, and then install a keylogger onto his machine and then sift through all the keystrokese just to log on to b.net and steal a few items is HIGHLY unlikley.

IF somebody were to take the trouble to do so, they would obviously be smart enough to pull it off, which means they would be smart enough to attack one of the top ladder players instead, as Merick already pointed out.

Yes, having your account hacked into is possible, but it is just SOOO unlikley to happen unless the account owner did some batantly stupid things, in which case it would be his own damn fault.
But, as has been already mentioned, the OP claims to have done nothing to jeopordize his account....which is still why all of this seems too utterly ridiculous to be true. Because if it were true, there would be a hell of a lot more of these kind of threads being posted.

well said.
well blevieve what u want to believe but this is happening..somehow they got yahoo email account and password as we have found several message that thay changed password and everytime we change password back they redo it..i have idea why someone would do this but its very discouraging..2x now in less then 2weeks my son's account has been gotten into and all high end items removed..he has changed email addy and passwords everything..he has been playing diablo forever so don't call him a noob..last night after they did it for the second time someone contacted him and informed him to join thier merry little band of thieves and he would get everything back..he is not a hacker, not a thief, and does not believe in duping..he plays or should i say played for shear fun..he has not decided to quit for good....with narrow minded people like u and all the dupers and hackers the fun of the game is gone

@theycomeinpints: could you please use paragraphs, your last 2 posts actually gave my a headache, trying to read it.

As far as I understood it all: if your son indeed was robbed of his previous account and got robbed again of a new account, the most logical explenation would be a keylogger.

Scan with a virusscanner, format your drive, reinstall windows and diablo, create a new email account and a new battlenet account.

Then it is impossible for anyone to hack into your son's account again. (if someone does get in again, there is someone on that uses your computer that allows other persons to get in, maybe willingly, maybe not)

Narrow minded?
Coming from the one blaming it on the dupers and hackers -btw its Crackers, in this context-. Wasn't it thieves who stole your kid's ****? Blame them. Blame yourself, and blame your son. Scan for keyloggers. There's no way people would be able to track your email addresses across Multiple yahoo email accounts UNLESS they had a method of tracking you. Or unless you/your son were just so smart to Tell people what you changed the registered address to. Or used the same password.

But blaming forum members, because you're too blind to see Truth? Grow up. If you have a son, he should have a father to be proud of - and not one who indiscriminately blames others for their own failings.

Barring keyloggers and general idiocy clientside, its possible the account was double regged. Although I'm not sure if the automatic email would be sent to both. If he created the acct himself, then it shouldn't be. But if its multiple accts - then I highly doubt it.

I also doubt this being about your "son". If he's 25, can't he talk for himself? In a much more comprehensible manner, no less?

Well, I would respond kindly to your insult...but my good buddy Xenon [KoA] did a pretty good job of putting Daddy in his place. Thanks Xenon

Well maybe if he would offer up some more tangible evidence, or be able to answer some of our questions, then his story would be a little more believable...

I'm not denying that accounts get hacked...however, when someone swears up and down that they did nothing on thier end and they've taken every precaution, i find it pretty falible.

I'm just bumping this thread as it is of importance more than ever now that there are more vitims now.

check out the forum Rules, man. We only need one thread like this...even if there are a few. One at a time will suffice.

6. Thou Shalt Not Engage in Unnatural Bumping. We have a "bump up" feature, where the post with the most recent addition goes to the top of the forum listing. If your post is good, it'll be responded to. If it's responded to, it'll undergo the process we call Natural Bumping. Natural Bumping = good. Unnatural bumping = bad. Unnatural Bumping is where someone posts, "I'm adding this to put this thread back at the top." Do it, we slap your hand. Do it often, you pull back a bloody stump.

He goes a hundred miles an hour
He's green dynamite
His name is Mr Bumpy
He's a bump in the night

Is there a conclusion to all these threads? Have we found anything yet? It seems more and more people are reporting lost accounts or items, and there is no obvious way in which they could have lost their passwords. Ok...starting tomorrow, ASCII pws for my accounts. It's gonna make switching back and forth more painful, but SafetyDance first.

I think a little dose of occam's razor is badly needed hereabouts. When you hear hoofbeats, think horses, not unicorns.

What's more likely? That a heretofore unsuspected glitch in the system has been exploited by dishonest people who have proven time and time again that they can make oodles of money off virtual reality and have no moral compunction not to use said loophole in the system to their own financial gain, or...

That dozens of people have banded together to make up a story and fool people?

You have to ask yourself who has more to gain from this. Do cheaters and liars stand to gain more from harvesting items off unsuspecting Battle.net members, or do the people who claim to have lost items through no fault of their own stand to gain more from lying about it? It's all a matter of pros and cons.

Of course, assuming those are the only two scenarios is a false dilemma fallacy. Though unlikely, it's possible that these people are both not lying and have not been hacked. There are other reasons why they might have lost items without being broken into by nefarious hooligans...strength glitch mishaps, poofing, etc. They're nowhere near as likely, but it's possible.

Maybe someone over at Blizzard turned on the Rust Storm while drunk and had an accident.
