While it was socketed, before upgrade, the zod refuses to go in the hole. It just displaces the item onto the clicker...

Breaking another one atm, going to try zodding it after its broken, but before upgrade -.-

edit:
well, thats that. Apparently, broken items, even IF socketed cannot have stuff stuck in the sockets.
