Rune drops are not affected by any factor and it is therefore luck.

Killing mass monsters is the best way to increase this luck, i.e. cows can be run fast and theres loads of them there, so its a good place to start.

Highest rune I've ever found in all my time is a Mal from blood lords just before mephi. Hell ofc.

All the good suggestions have already been made.

For me, the best way to find runes is by opening chests in act 3. I usually join a bot-run baal game and have enough time to open all the chests. I usually find 2-3 charms, 5-6 flawless gems, and a bunch of runes. Most of the runes are low, but there is still plenty.

And the oddest drop I've had is in the tower cellar level 5. Right after I killed the countess, a little bugger came by, and dropped an ist for me. Pretty awesome. Cows are a great place too. Found my first HR there.

I think i feel special now.. mabye i've just been getting lucky? i have found x3jah x2ber x2sur, vex, lo, zod, and freakish amounts of everything shael and below after 2 months of being back in d2, and i dont even think i have mf on my barb at all mabye like 12mf? But i do have a strong tedency to completly clear out a map just for sheer enjoyment. Funny cause my sorc with over 200mf never finds anything....wierd :crazy:

I believe your mistaken on your finds sir. With that rate in 2 months is equal to hitting the lottery 87 times in 3 years.

The ones I've found (career)

Vex Rune - From one of Shenk's Minion's
Ohm Rune - Not sure which monster but River of Flame near HF
Lo Rune - One of the tree minions in the Dark Wood
Sur Rune - One of the champion lil' explodeys in Durance 2. I've seperately gotten a Pul from one of them, too.
Sur Rune - From the council just before Meph (two days ago!)

Only the Ohm and Sur come from places you might actually go looking for runes - places with lots of high level monsters. less talked about, but I'd recommend WSK 2 and 3. They usually have at least one of the ghost/gloam/mage type monster, often 2. They're all high level and pretty dense. Though it's not easy to survive down there solo in a /p8 game. The highest I've found there is Ist.

That's either insane luck, or something else...

My rune luck has been alright (in about 18months or so):

Jah- from pindle's minion (while waiting to MP)
Sur- running LK
Vex- Meph
Gul- Pit melee rogue boss
Ist- Countess, NM CS

Just for clarification. MF doesn't affect rune drops right? So if you did cows or countess MF wouldn't help at all? not higher runes nor more runes?

Then mabye i should start playing lottery cause im really not joking here i thought mabye blizz made runes easier to find since the last time i used to play. I guess i have just been getting lucky. But then again i have never really found any good items just runes.

Or mabye i just play too much :P
this is also non ladder does that make a difference?

Lo - LSK Corpse
Vex - Shenk Minions
Gul / Ist - WSK 2
and Plenty of El & Elds from Big Baal himself. Thanks Baal ..|.,
