best hardcore ironman duo

me and a friend are starting an HC ironman duo, and we're wondering what the best combo would be. i've looked around the forums, but wanted to get suggestions for our specific restrictions. obviously survivability is our main concern, but we also want to be able to clear all the way through hell. and since it is ironman, our items will likely not be elite, so that is also a consideration. i thought about doing paladin/skellymancer. but i'm not sure if pally should be hammerdin or zealot.

any suggestions?

iron man is a term for a type of dueling tournament in which everyone levels to 9, hits hostile and duels to the death. i think the term you're thinking of is untwinked wherein you use only what you find.

i had a couple bnet friends that at the begining of a season would always make a blizz sorc and a light trapper. they were very good together even with crappy gear. sorc provides teleport and massive cold damage, while the sin provieds much needed safety in cos and mind blast as well as covering the cold immunes. anything that was cold immune/light immune could be handled by mercs, shadow, and death sentry.

If you want to go with a Paladin and Necromancer, I think you'd gain more with a Zealot than with a Hammerdin. If your plan is to play regularly with a friend then you should pick a pair of characters that complement each other well.

Fanaticism helps out a Necro's minions a lot more than Concentration, and a Necro's curses will benefit a Zealot more than they'll help a Hammerdin. Also, if the pally is going with a melee build it will be easier for you and your friend to share the gear you find.

You could also get similar benefits if you party a Necro and a Barb. Amp and Life Tap make a Barbarian's job a lot easier, just like they do for a Zealot. BC, BO, and Shout help you and your minions live longer, so with the Pally you'll get an offensive boost, with the Barb you'll get a defensive boost.

If I were playing the Necro I'd be just as happy either way. If I were taking the fighter's role, I'd go with the Barb, since I think they're a lot more fun.

that was my inspiration. but anyway, yeah i think we've decided on necro and pally. we'll see how it goes. not going to go naked like those guys, but it'll be fun.

Well i play LSC but the starter got me thinking. I play a clvl 86 conc barb (TYVM Halciet) & my dream partner would be a fanata zealot. his aura helps my AS & AR, and my Shout & B/O helps his life/mana & defence

Well Ironman, Sorc leaps to mind.
or you could just go hammers with enigma at higher level but sorc gives you teleport scouting early in the game or is this PVP?

Hmm, I always thought that ironman means untwinked with no shopping and perhaps even throwing away everything at L1, but there might be different definitions on different realms or play modes (SC, HC, SP).

we got a friend to join us at the last minute. so its now a trio. we went with barb/pally/necro. the pally decided to go smiter. i think offensively we're going to be a bit weak. but if we decide to try ubers, we'll at least have that covered.

full-clear ironman is a nice twist for those like us, who haven't played in forever. it's really been fun starting from scratch and clearing areas that i usually have never touched. we were almost level 12 when we rescued cain lol.

as expected, its been a breeze so far. i can't wait to see hell.
