AVENGER GUID NEED HELP PvP or PvM

Hi I just join this fourm cause i need somehelp. I know this build has been posted before but maybe someone can refer me to the fourm when i can get this information.

I wanted to build a Avenger and i would like input from anyone possible. please people with exp would be great. I just need help with the right type of gear. Richer the better would be great. He is going to be for PvM or PvP i dont know yet so both sets of gear would be fine. hes lvl 85. The current gear i have now is:

Helm: Shako w/ um or cham (which?)
Rings: soji's,bk's,or Raven (which?)
Ammy: Mara's, serph hymn,metalgrid,highlords.. (which? or other)
Shield: ethHoZ w/um (Other?)
Armor: Fort or Enigma upgr both (which?)
Wpn: this is what im having problems with...I have eBOTDz,Griefz,Griefpb,or Last Wish. Should i use a diff wpn? or are one of these fine. (which or other?)
Belt: Dungo's or arach's mesh (which or other?)
boots: Gore or trek? (which or other?)
Gloves: Draq's? (other?) maybe venom grip? Bloodfist? any recomendation?

In inventory: anni and torch whith gcs.

Anyone out there please help me with my build before i make a mistake....
I want the best gear in the game and thats what i have above. I can get others if i need to but i have never built a avenger before so any and all input on what i should use or changed,even why...would be perfect. Thanks for all your support everyone :)
 
The items you list are beyond my own budget but I can help you with other area's.

Avenger's typically suffer from 2 problems. Mana consumption and slow kill speed.

If you follow the stickied avenger guide cyrus suggests an alternate build which solves the mana issue. Pump the defensive aura's that boost ele damage and place a single point in Vengeance. With maxed conviction you will find the lying char screen says you have 50% chance to hit most beasties in Hell but the reality is closer to 75-80% and the mana required is still under 6 per strike. If you have low mana leech then a pt in redemption will be extremely useful.

Kill speed can be compensated for by increasing ias and the occasional use of zeal. Again 1 pt in the primary skill whilst using maxed Conviction does the job.

I am running my own budget avenger thru Hell atm and he is going really well. Better than the zmiter I did recently with the same equipment.

Quick footnote. One other issue is damage from ranged physical attacks like claw vipers and the like. If you pump holy shield and use demons limb for pre buff on bosses then you can lower dex and pump vita.

Ask about grief and smite. I seem to recall that the plus dmg is claimed to have no effect when smiting.... I am unsure about this.

You have very few sources of crushing blow. For boss killing in pvm this is very handy.
 
Oh the same note, im having trouble deciding weapon and gear.

Was wanting to ask if Deadly Strike applies to the Vengeance Skill , ie is calculated b4 it is multiplied by Vengeance.

Just asking because i love CB and DS
 
Vengers hit hard but hardly hit, not very good at crowd control, and are vulnerable to mana steal rendering them useless. If you are wanting to make a melee pally that uses conviction try this build as you will be resorting to using zeal most of the time anyways.

Like I posted in your other thread, you can't use an ethereal HoZ with an Um in it. Well you can, just not for very long. HoZ does not have a self repair mod.

I'm gonna have to disagree when you say Vengers hardly hit-this is just not true and doesnt make much sense. My conviction is lvl 23 right now and it reduces enemies defense by 92% on top of the huge bonus to attack rating that you already get from Vengeance.

It is true however, that you run out of mana a lot unless you have like 15% mana leech. To alleviate this problem I got an Insight weapon for my act 2 merc. This will give your merc lvl 12-17 Meditation (mine happens to be lvl 17) and now always have plenty of mana available as long as my merc stays alive. It also regenerates very fast.

The reason why I made this Vengeance Conviction Pally is because I am teamed up with my friend who is a fireball sorc. The conviction helps her obliterate enemies while I act as a defense shield and fire immune killer.
 
IMO the ebotd zerk is the weapon to use here. Grief's +xxx damage doesn't work with vengeance. But like said, an avenger really doens't have any crowd control and is vulnerable to mana stealers. So if you're looking for a nice pvm or pvp build then there are other builds available to the amount of wealth you have. But if you just want to make an avenger then the gear set you assume now is very fine.

My budget Avenger has now completed Hell with the following items.
Kiras (60%), 3/2 heavens light (2 shael), GA, 4 pdiamond kurast (92%res all), dracs, gores, ravenfrost, wilhelms pride (dual leech belt) and carrion wind. I have demon limb on weapon switch.

I have a 33% chance to hit Baal and 48% after casting enchant. However the reality is that he takes dmg 3/4 of hits due to the lvl 25 conviction. I only chanted for Meph Diablo and Baal and never had a problem killing packs. Technique is important. Zeal untill life tap is cast then veangence the rest to death. The only packs I had trouble with were in Chaos Sanctuary and it was much easier than with Zeal..... 1 Zeal IM death anyone?

With Godly items you could max veangence. I chose to go the synergy path instead and need 5.7 mana per swing....easy to get that back.

Most of all, was the reception i got in games from ele attack chars. They all love conviction.

Don't listen to critics who either have never played this character or perhaps just prefer nuke-em-with-one-hit powergaming. Avengers pwn. :thumbsup:
 
Well first of all Venger is awesome if you have a sorc/java etc following you around everywhere you go A+++++ And venger is a very fun char to play with a group if you like to play the role as a merc.

But, Vengers do a 1 monster per hit that uses mana. There are lots of monsters that do ranged/melee attacks that steal mana which will leave your attack useless making you switch to zeal anyhow and they will hit you as you are the 1 monster at a time melee killing machine. why not make a convicting zealot in the first place which if you add an elemental element to your attack will do alot better job at 5 hits per attack with 2 points mana used.

PVP you will struggle as well as a melee char with low ar. If you can manage to get a hit in you will most likely kill them 1 hit. But is getting those hits in is the difficulty in that.

Ive made a many Vengers in the past and I critique from countless hours of Venger play with any/all items available in the game and was never satisfied with the end game result of a slow killing melee Paladin that has basic survival issues.
