Am I doomed???

My build so far:

20 SM
20 RS
01 CG
01 GM
01 SR

20 PN
Prereqs to get to PN

1 point in Amp, Weaken, Terror, Decrep.

I thought I would max out poison synergies, but I cant because I still need the pre-reqs to get LR. So I guess either PD or PE will be 18 (assuming 110 points total...which I don't know if I will ever get to level 99...never have gotten that high).

Would this build be OK for MFing/PVM?

Should I start over?

I just started playing again and I am poor so I began with a fishymancer, but I wanted to some poison too which I have always thought was cool for some reason. Now it would seem that the points that I have stuck in PN are meaningless because I will have to wear +poison gear which would (I assume) take away from my poison damage...

ya you should have put those points into CE for sure
you can keep playing and put everything into CE until maxed and you might be aight, that would take a while though (personally i would re-build)

fishymancers only need SM, RS, CE and a couple points in amp damage and decrep to be effective

as for gear you find, def dont sacrifice anything for +poison, you wont need it (if you continue playing anyways)

well, I would think that PN is powerful and a great addition to physical damage skeletons. It is powerful enough to stop dead healing and bring down health. Nothing wrong with it. CE takes up SOOOO MUCH MANA. You dont need to be a cookie cutter anything.

if you have like +8 all, from circlet, amulet, wand, and head, that makes a poison nova quite powerful. All of that is just blue or rare stuff. Store bought or crafted, etc....


Max PE, its an awesome spell. 20pn 20 pe, 1 point in all right side curses, finished at level 82 +12 from quests.

Tell me thats a weak nova??? that could kill in and of itself in hell. remember, you have a 54% lower resist spell. that can triple the effect in hell compared to other players casting poison or using poison gear.

I dont see the issue. I like the idea of the build. PE is a favorite of mine for the mass amount of damage it does in a cramped area. I never see anyone use it.

12k damage is kinda cool no?

I'm against CE as the only skill to use for a companion spell. Killing baal is much easier if you cast Gumby, decrep or blood tap, have strong skellies and can cast a real spell on him and his minions without need for corspses. PN drops all the monster hps steadily making for quick skeletal cleanup. It's a dual focused build, very versatile. you can die, come back, kill 5-10 monsters and make new skellies in a flash.

I know people say just amp regular guys or decrep bosses. this kinda is a one way street. they probably dont have 1000 damage per second poison spell. that's a lot to the whole screen. That's like say 20 monsters, so thats holding a 20k damage weapon in necro's hand.

Yeah its not a big deal; definitely not grounds for a rebuild.

Poison Nova and Explosion are fine. They are great later in the game too for taking out physical and/or fire immune enemies. And as mentioned before, it thwarts monster healing.

CE is still the main killer though. I maxed mine on my old necro, but there is no reason you have to.

one extra thought, you don't need to invest hard point to LR, if skill points are tight u can always get a wand with LR on it.

this is true, I just never do it myself. I like blood tap and decrepify, so thats just like one off just about.

1 pt in LR give -54% with normal items.

Too bad you cant get a White wand with LR on it. that would annhilate for such a build.

Hello, I'm new to the forum but not new to D2.
I am having a big problem with my Fishymancer necro. It is so weak it can't even solo NM Andariel. Here is my build:

My necro can't handle hell and can barely handle nightmare. What's wrong?

I don't see obvious problems in your skill distribution. only thing is that you may use something like LR curse now and then. it actually bring safety to your gameplay as the foes are moving slower and also attack less in given time.

when you say 'it is so weak' what do you mean, your skellies die too fast, or you lose life too fast that you can't stand more than couple of hit?

1 BA with no Bone Wall is very weak, you probabily want to have some BW to increase the armor. only +2 all skills are not exactly high, combine with wand and off-hand head you should have more +skills to RS and SM very easy. what armor are you wearing? also there are skills to where you stand when your skellies are doing the dirty work, but I guess you already know that.

duriel's shell
infernal cranium (for the +10 res)
nagel ring x2
gold wrap belt
magic item greaves with 20% mf
rare guantlets with 15% mf
rare bone wand (+1 all necro skills, 20% fcr, 6% mana leech, 7% life leech, +1 life tap, 86 mana, 38% cold res, +50% undead dmg)
rare head (+1 all necro skills, 10% fbr, 20% icb, 13-28 4s psn dmg, +1 IG, 79% ED, All res +15)
Saracen's Chance (10% chance of Iron Maiden, +12 attr, +20 res)
Magic Grand Charm (+7 atk rating, +4str)

The easiest fix is to get some +skills. Look around for a good wand with some +skills. Those should be in the shops. Look around for a good Shrunken Head with some +skills. Getting the +skills up will increase the effectiveness of your skellies.

When you fight Andariel are all your minions engaging her or are they spread out fighting everything and a few are fighting Andy? Is your Merc able to survive? Does he have a form of CB and some ll?

act bosses cannot kill groups of your peeps if they have Blood tap on them.

Sometimes, decrepify, holy freeze merc and clay golem is even better. I have never found a better curse on an act boss besides Blood Tap though (i call it that, is it life tap? whatever)

50% life leach means they heal for a LOT every jab. What is the poison resistance on skellies?

I recommend a polearm with slow on it, or using a bow with slow in your gear. this makes monsters go to a crawl if you stack cold, slow, clay golem, decrep. might attack once ever 5-6 seconds at most. In hell, a might merc works best as the skellie hps go up a lot so that lifetap becomes more useful as they have a nice hp padding.

Clegs bracer gloves and a bow is what I have used. Unconventional but it stacked it makes bosses immobile.


+3 summons wands can be bought I think, right? +3 summons head, +2 all circlet... can get some huge skellies for just cash. Roll for circlets is what I do with cash. Head is the trickiest part I find. +2 head and socket for 2 holes and put pdiamonds in it is how i do hcore normally.

thats a good point about them being spread out. keep making town portals to focus them. I am guessing though that he is having problems with the fact that act bosses do more vs minions and minions do less vs them. NM skellies are just so much weaker than hells, it makes no sense.

i had no problems with andy with my necro. Hell you have more gear than me .


Clear all the rooms before andy then amp everything in andys room. Once 1 devilkin goes down CE while chugging mana pots if needed and you should be alone with andy.

Make sure that your merc has some form of Crushing Blow skelemancers are not boss killers there best mf is norma lmonsters in high item level places.

Decrepify and clay golem is the best way to kill her once cast she rarely uses her poison and her melee is barely damaging .

Everytime your in town and the inventory has been reset either by you joining a new game or you running out of a empty town then returning in check malah,alma,drogan or whoever for wands i shopped a 3 RS 3 SM 2 Amp wand pretty quickly. Heads check every head you see since you nearly always have a decent skill on them. Also if you find a 3/3 SM/RS head white not magic with 0 or 2 sockets then give it to me or make splendor out of it.

If your ladder farm perfect gems 15 will get you a Arm of king leoric and 40 will get a low very low def homucalus but who cares about defense on a necro really?> lol.

Ive soloed the game with dirt poor gear many times with a necro so just use your head since a necromancer is CAPEABLE of soloing hell no problem with nothing on but nowhere in the text does it say it would be fast. It is easy if you know how to though.Your supposed to trade and upgrade your gear to up the speed.

When I had my old necro, Decrepify was always the "panic button", for when a group of monsters was too incorrigible for my minions to handle.

Bosses in D2 are pretty neutered when they have decrep on them.

I've read over at the Faqtoids site that the slow effect of the Clay Golem is the same slow effect you get from some items, and that these effects do not stack with each other. They do stack with Holy Freeze, Decrepify and regular chill from cold damage though. And seeing how Decrepify + Clay Golem is so much better than Clay Golem + 50% slow weapon, I'm inclined to agree. Thus you can have a Clay Golem effect with only a mercenary wielding a Kelpie Snare (even better than Clay Golem), and then stack that with the mercenary's Holy Freeze and your Decrepify, and possibly some cold damage. Never tried it, but I'm sorely tempted.

I recently defeated NM Andariel myself, using nothing but a level 7 Clay Golem (Base 1), Decrepify and a rogue mercenary (fire). Had to run up the stairs a number of times, and the merc died once. But eventually we won. I suppose that it's a lot riskier for the mercenary if he's not a ranged attacker. And if that hadn't worked, I suppose that my necro would just have had to gear up with poison resistance and a decent shield for max block, and then tank her himself. That worked against normal Diablo, and was the only reason I put 20 points into Poison Dagger. Which turned out to be the most boring skill I have ever had the misfortune to play the game with. And it looks silly when characters run around with a dagger high up in the air. I'll have to find a decent alternative.
