6112 problem, not because of reset!

I'm aware of the realms down and the reset, and I saw the thread below me concerning 6112... but I've been having this problem for a month or so now.

The difference for me is that I am on a school network, without a router. My desktop is hardwired to the network. Now there is certainly a router somewhere in the building, but I don't exactly have access to its functions. When I type my ip address in the address bar it says I can't connect.

I've forwarded the ports on my windows firewall, and just about everywhere else I can find. Using portforwarding.com's port checker, it tells me all the necessary ports are closed. The telnet cmd trick returns nothing. This makes me think the school network has things blocked. Which is odd because they don't block WoW, TF2, Xbox Live, CS, etc...

Am I missing something? Or is my school network probably to blame? If so, can I bypass it anyway? I've tried the program PingFu iris, but had no luck. Please help!

The school network is the issue. You won't be able to bypass it without access from an admin (not likely to happen, probably will laugh at you if you request the port be opened for a game.

Newer games/consoles tend to use common open tcp ports to avoid having to configure routers to play the product.

This is what I feared. Damn!

Guess it's SP until I move off campus in a month and a half... however if anyone else has a potential solution, I'm all ears!

Re: 6112 problem, not because of reset!

if the school doesnt block other games, try talking to the network admin, see if they can open up 6112 and 4000 for d2

Re: 6112 problem, not because of reset!

you should only need to forward ports if your hosting games on open and tcp/ip
if your router has a setting to forward starcraft, try disabling it

Re: 6112 problem, not because of reset!

Then why would the 6112 port error becoming from connecting to closed bnet?

Re: 6112 problem, not because of reset!

if your router is set to forward starcrafts port, it will only forward 6112 (tcp&udp)
it may goof things up since d2 uses 4000 (tcp) and 6112 (tcp)

try turning off the forwards for both
they are only used to allow incoming connections, not outgoing
