23 Runeword Search Thread

I will eventually switch over to 3-socket orbs, and this was actually the method I was going to use to start, simply use the runes that are most likely for a sorc orb.

io, lum, ist, ko, fal, tir, and maybe lem and hel, since those mods might actually be beneficial to a sorc.

Don't Ral, Ort, and Thul also have benefits for a sorc? Granted, not much benefit, but if you look at "Leaf", it seems likely that all of the extra fire skill points are tied to the use of the Ral rune.

Ral's firey properties most surely influenced "Leaf" in a metaphorical sense. The actual modifier when placed in a weapon is added fire damage, though, and so Ral wouldn't get caught in the "nostrike" net and would be, in all practicality, useless in an orb.

If you want to expand it to sorceressy/magicy metaphorical runes, the list's gonna get a lot bigger... Eth, Ort, Thul/Cham, Sol, Vex to name a few. That makes things bad for maintaining a smallish starting-out point. Conversly, none of the runes that make "Crescent Moon" have anything (in the same metaphorical sense) to do with lightning. So, there's hope yet.

Of course, "Leaf" would not have been discovered with the "nostrike" net... ;-)

Expanding the net would also require an understanding of Blizzard's collective brain, a treacherous endeavor, to be sure (the asylums are full of those who have tried). One would begin to guess if they've made the new orb runeword a cold-themed word, a lightning-themed word, etc. Best not even to start down that road, I think.

Here's some suggestions for "nostrike" combinations that sound "runewordy" in my opinion:

KoLumIo, FalLumIo, HelLumIo
TirKoLum, FalKoLum, IstKoLum
TirIstLem, TirIstLum
FalIstKo, FalIstIo
LemIoLum, LumIoLem (it'd be cool if those both worked... like Tomax and Xamot, lol)

Realism disclaimer: I get lots less playtime these days than I used to. Maybe I can get a lum a week. I've no problem killing 8-player hell cows with my summoner necromancer (ce > cows), but, as we know, there aren't really any public hardcore hell cow games out there. Well, none that anyone in their right mind would join, heh. Last weekend's solo cows netted me a Sol (yeah, one freakin' Sol). To sum up, I've got the heart to help, but I don't have many real-life resources (beyond my invaluable ability to babble).

Cynical Disclaimer: I'm 99% sure that the 512 combinations that the nostrike runes produce will not result in a runeword, and that there'll end up being a freakin El in the mix somewhere (probably with a Cham right before it). I leave the remaining 1% for hope. I hear that hope's getting sick of my table scraps. Bah!

Hope's Rebuttal Disclaimer: 512 isn't that big of a number, if you think about it. While I can't do it by myself, "the community" could probably pin it down rather quickly. Let's hear it for 1%!!

some of these may be duplicates, but all have been tested somehow someway:

Ith el
Ith eld
Tal el
Ral el
Ral eld
Eld ort
tal nef
eth ral
nef ral
tal ral

all in necro heads

well, vex is used in hoto, thats another example, well pul too but all of this is mosly random anyway. 512 is a nice lower number then 33^3 = 35937.

On a sad note, *outlander102 will no longer be playing D2, as he's stuck on Halo right now :xrollseye . On a bright note, he donated a buncha items :xgift: (quite a few useful to my 2 chars) that I'll be trading for runes to test with. Hopefully, we'll be seeing him again on the next ladder :xman:

Runewords for christmas ?

The time is not now... ...but soon!
I just found out something important!

It is not time yet...but it is getting sooner!
OK ok I am hurrying! OK the time is...still not now.

Dang it, I thought I had it that time :p
Oooh ooh ooh! It still isn't time.

All comment made by KennyZ on battle.net forums. Maybe blizz saved the runewords recipe for christmas ( ooh ooh ooh :xrollseye )

:xgift: Runewords on the way !!! (please, let it be that...)

I don't know the news about the runeword hunt, so this post may be outdated or something like that, but have any of you guys tried runewords like "SolLumEl" or "LumElSol"?

it would spell like lune sol or sol lune. (moon sun; sun moon).

(sry if I wrote anything wrong, English isn't my natural language, neither is spanish, anyway :xtongue: )

FreakinRican: The spreadsheet appears fine for me in Internet Explorer, try viewing it that way first and we'll go over the fine points of whatever problem you're having next. As for the autolinks, those have been appearing for some time on RPGForums as a way for them to make money to keep the site up. I can't remember all of the links but there was a thread specifically listing known ones. First I've seen Halo, though.

Booster and Cherokee: Though there is now one example of a dual-rune runeword, I can't think that any of the 2OS words we're testing could possibly have the same. The only reason I was testing up to AMN+AMN (or SHAEL+SHAEL depending on how you look at it) was to eliminate the need for using them in tests and to toss them my way for class-specific tests, upgrading and crafting. Though I still need a few exceptional-to-elite upgrading runes I hope the dual tests will stop at those points. No more PUL+PUL, please, it breaks my heart.

All public account owners: I've now added cubes to all the characters on the RuSTMules and SocketedCrap accounts, but have already forgotten the third account's name. If those mules aren't set I'll set them and soon add cubes for more space, just remind my fragile memory (I know the password).

All: As for 2OS, I past MAL+MAL, I've already suggested that necroshields are probably the ideal testers, as there will undoubtedly be at least one class-specific runeword for each class and they will likely be the maximum number of runes for the word. Necroshields can only have two so this makes it the prime test subject.

For 3OS, clubs, daggers, claws (one already exists, so I'd rule this out), helms of all kinds and orbs (class-specific, another ideal tester since we know there will likely be one) are probably great choices, but before we start trying 3OS orbs, let's finish the 2OS tests up to LEM - maybe MAL - and then decide which items beyond MAL to test first for 2OS.

I vote necroshields for the above stated reasons. Anyone else?

SocketedMules is the account. Most chars still need 'perming'.

christmas

well, i keep hearing a lot "oooo, presents from blizzard for christmas" well, i hope not i find much more fun in searching for runes and testing than just knowing the word (i would definately not play diablo for very long after we know all of them) so i say "blizzard, hold thy tongue"

some hints may be nice tho, just for a couple of them, and only if they are ULTRA-coded, make it near impossible to make sense of them

a funny picture popped into my head: i can just imaging 1,000 kids, waking up on the 25th, and instead of running to the tree or their stockings, they run straight to the computer, bring up the Arreat Summit and look for their presents there (coal perhaps?)

:xgift: <<<< hopefully not blizzard

OMG. None are Sorc Orb Only. None are 2-OS.

Guys, you've done such an amazing job coordinating all this for so long. I don't know what to say...

:xx:

I think I'll try this one.

Pride 3 Socket Polearms Cham + Sur + Io + Lo

Now if I can just cram that Lo in there.

Take a second look at the new words that work in different item types...

"Dragon" in 3-os Armor/Shield
"Dream" in 3-os Helm/Shield
"Fortitude" in 4-os Weapon/Armor
"Phoenix" in 4-os Weapon/Shield
"Spirit" in 4-os Sword/Shield

That's an interesting and unexpected twist.
