23 Runeword Search Thread

I think that at this point, we are all grasping at straws. Given that, I beleive, that ANY test that we do is valid and worthy of the runes that are being used for the cause. Personally, I've never had high runes, I think I had a PUL on Ladder Season 1, which I gave to my friend because he really needed it. To me, runes really dont matter. You can call me a fool if you like, but testing for rune words has really intruiged me and I figured that I could test claws. If and when I get high runes, I MAY decide to use it to test a rune word or trade it for some equipment. More likely that not, I will use it to test though.

ah, i rember when i thought as u did once. the first time i found an ist totally changed that.

Edit: Wathombe earlier mentioned that gul/ zod were each respectivly only used once. I find it vey very liekly that blizzard would introduce soehting which uses gul. I remebr find one on non-ladder and thinking about how completely useless it was. Also right now the main use for gul is to upgrade for the next rune. it would not surprise me in the least bit if blizzard introduced several runewords with gul in it.

Numbers for runes

My numbers were slightly off for runeword usage. I was going off Arreat summits word list and they might be off.
They have the following differences in their word list.
Nef = Black, Melody, Nadir, Radiance, Smoke 5
Eth = Fury, Holy Thunder, Malice, Memory, Rhyme, Stealth, Zephyr, BOD, Splendor 9
Shael = Melody, RHyme, Crescent Moon, Stone, Duress 5
Ko = is in 3 words but used 4 times. (Just was counting number used on my chart)

Have any of those words changed and I missed it?

no they have not changed, the 4 ko uses is because ko is used twice in the beginning of sanctuary.

I was going entirely off of InsaneFarmer's document, so I've now double-checked.

Nef is 5, not 4 (IF missed Melody)
Eth is indeed 10 (you missed Bramble)
Shael is 5, not 4 (IF missed Stone)
Ko, you're right, I guess I was just counting words used in, not runes used

I think my analysis in that post still stands, though, regarding frequency and its applications. What do you think?

Ya I guess I didn't say anything that hadn't been said in one way or another. Someone earlier had posted about making an online program to update the 'tried runeword' list and it got me thinking about writing a VB program to help the cause, but when I really began to think about how to limit the possibilities into workable data, I saw it from that perspective and it really hit me. Perhaps I'll contact some of you and join in some cow runs on USEast, I'm usually on in the morning EST.

Your right

Yea, I was just double checking to make sure I didnt miss any counts. I am almost willing to bet Gul is in one of the new runewords. However with 23 new words I figure almost every rune will be used since 2 socket items havent found as of yet. I figure Zod, Cham, Jah, Lo, Gul, Lem, Pul will be used since they are all higher runes and used in 3 or less words. I been trying to cube up so I can start messing with these runes but so far the highest cubed I have done is 2 Ko's. I did find a vex off a small demon in Black marsh area doing a countess run and then got a Mal from the anvil. Anyways, I will be working on cubing up to test those higher mid range words hopefully soon.

My own less than two cents' worth...

Umm... Has anyone tried an acronym of one of the NPC's names?
Charsi - Barb item
Akara - probably too repetitive
Griz - Possibly a sword or hammer?
Griez - polearm
Fara - paladin item

Just a thought, and worth less time than it takes for you to read it, but I haven't heard if it being proposed.....:)

FLAME in a weapon for Firelord? GA (Gul Amn) in a stave for the Goblin Alchemist?
Just so ya know, the Alchemist is a melee hero, and the Flame Lord is a caster. (Sorry this is late, was off playing my nerdy card game yesterday.)

Edit: So screwed up that quote when I chopped it up. :\

Today I had some cowruns with Talas and when we mixed up runes we found with 7 Dol runes from my mule we got following rune combinations tested:

Ort Nef Eld - gemmed shield (ONE, had to try  )
eth Sol - gemmed orb
Eth Eld - gemmed mace
Thul Tir - gemmed necro shield
Dol Eth - gemmed sword
El Dol - gemmed sword
Hel Eld - gemmed armor
Dol Tal - gemmed armor
Dol Tir - gemmed wand
Nef Dol - gemmed spear
Tal Dol - gemmed claw
Dol Tir - gemmed club

Wathombe/Andy

I'm perfectly aware of the spreadsheet, I download it everyday, I was reiterating the reason and techniques we're using to cull the list from bottom to top.

As for me, I'm on almost all the time (no job or prospects) yet never see more than three of these guys at any one time. All, it appears, in a different game from one another and none ever whisper me or add me to their lists, hence I figure they're leveling/Baal running/magic-finding on their own and I don't bother them. Usually I'm in Cowbeater **/** just for this purpose but magic-finding on my own waiting for others that never come. No big deal, really.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy, I have one L24 non-ladder hardcore character with two original Azurewraths which I haven't played in well over a year, and I'm not planning to play him or other HC characters for one simple reason demonstrated from yesterday:

It's bad enough Blizzard doesn't know how to write video drivers or know that their minimum requirements (233mhz CPU, 64meg memory, 800meg HDD, DX7+, Win95+, 4xCD+) are pathetically inadequate to run their program. Due to two motherboard deaths for my AthlonXP 2100+ I'm currently running on a 400mhz/384meg/40gig/DX9/Win98/40xCD on a Tyan POS and literally had 0FPS for over five minutes standing amidst a minefield from catapults in A5. The rendering necessary for those tripmines are beyond belief. Yesterday, while Baaling with a Necrosummoner friend, he and a few others got swarmed at the WP by Black Souls. While I knew I have crap for framerate and was waiting for a safe portal from the Throne I decided to jump in with my belt full of juvies. A Hammderdin can make short work of even champion souls, but figured there was at least one unique... there were two. As I pretty much cleared the area I ran to the corner to cast a portal to give at least some space, then everything stopped.

My connection was interupted. When I came back I had no gear. It appears my merc enticed that second unknown unique to kill him then targetted me. Turns out my last hammer got him anyway so we were even, but only because it's softcore. The moral is hardcore would be a lot more challenging and maybe it'd have more players if Blizzard knew what it was doing. Here a bunch of characters die to Black Souls, I kill them and Battle.net kills me, and all this with poor performance from the game itself. It shows I know what I'm doing most of the time and could survive HC if it was moderately worth it. I took an oath never to play hardcore on Battle.net unless I was payed, but I'm paying them so softcore is as far as I'll go; it's a game to have fun with and it's barely any fun any more due to Blizzard themselves. Under any circumstances hardcore is a challenge at best, a contest really, and taking B.net's and the game's performance into account there's no fun involved any longer - at least not for me.

I'd suggest using a SC account to at least test stuff, but I'm sure you're addicted to HC and the more time you play SC the less you play HC. That HC character I have was an oldschool Barbarian build that I've been making ever since I started D2, and I made the same build in softcore ladder when .10 came out. He couldn't blow his own nose without getting drilled by undead stygian dolls... in nightmare A3. No telling how far the HC character would get before being squashed, so he sits there taking up space. Appropriately named, though: Manque.

Excel

Does anybody have an adobe version of the spreadsheet? I dont have excel and nothing on my comp will open that spreadsheet so I can read it. I still cant get over the fact that I thought I had excel on my comp. Blows my mind that I don't.
