Hi everyone, I'm new here, and am really happy that I found somewhere to talk about D2 1.09 Single player. I thought I was the only one in the whole world who was still playing this patch.

I haven't played in a while, but decided to get back on D2 today.

My goals:

Somewhat impossible to reach, I want to have all characters at level 99, on all game types (SC, HC. Classic SC and HC), and having the gear I want for each character.

My characters (builds):

For now I almost exclusively played SC Expansion so I'm trying to build:

(L-Cancel) Druid: Werewolf
(Mindgame) Necromancer: Corpse Explosion/Revive/Bone Spirit <--- No idea how this one will reach a high level, due to Corpse Explosion not scaling with Players X
(SweetSpot) Amazon: Freezing Arrow/Guided Arrow
(Wavedash) Paladin: Zeal/Fanaticism

My progress/Activities:

Since my goal is to level, here are the current levels of my characters:

Fall - Level 87
SweetSpot - Level 87
Beast - Level 82 (I'm very proud of this guy)
DashDance - Level 77
MindGame - Level 42 (Waiting to find more SoJ and a Harlequin's Crest before going on)
Wavedash - Level 26 (Waiting to find HoZ, another Gaze, more Raven Frosts)
L-Cancel - Level 25 (Waiting to find another Stormshield, more Raven Frosts and he'll be ready)

Note: I used to have a level 94 sorceress, same build as Fall, but decided to start over for some reason :/ Same goes for a level 80 Druid I had with Arkaine's Valor (Hard disk died :weep: ).

And recently, I lost my level 90 MFer sorc because I used to have both 1.09 and 1.13 installed on my PC, and loaded my sorc when I was on 1.13, which made her unplayable. I decided to rebuild her by using Hero editor (exact same stats and gear) but made another mistake by giving her the same name as the one I lost, so the save files overwritten, and couldn't remember what her gear was EXACTLY, so I don't have any MFer for now.

Today I played my Classic Softcore Sorceress, named Blast, I just finished Act 3 on Normal, and I'm currently doing a few Meph runs, in order to level a bit and get some semi-decent stuff.

Notable finds:
I got many good items over the years of SP
Edit: not that much, after seeing what others are finding lol

Sets
Full IK set: Got the plate at Pindleskin, almost didn't realize it, I usually don't even identify Set items lol. I keep the whole set in Beast's stash

-Helms-
Arreat's Face: On my Barb. Found one Ethereal too, but didn't keep it
Harlequin's Crest: Fall wears a perfect one(141 Def) socketed with UM, my MFer had one, too
Gaze: Got two of them, both are 6/8/20, on Sweetspot and DashDance
Jalal's Mane: Currently in my druid's stash
Also found a rare Diadem, kinda useless, but still fun to keep: 2 Assassin Skills, 15 All resistances, 52 life and some random mods.

-Weapons-
The Oculus: Currently wielded by Fall, I had such a hard time finding it, don't know why
Bartuc's Cut-Throat: I found at least 8 of them. DashDance wears a 194% and a 192% both Shael'd
Buriza-Do Kyanon: On Sweetspot, 196% I would prefer Windforce though haha
EagleHorn: On Sweetspot, as switch
Baranar's Star: Got 2 of them, 1 in L-Cancel's stash, and the other in WaveDash's stash
The Grandfather: Found this in a cow run; I was soooooooooo happy ! Now, beast wears it proudly, Shael'd

-Armors-
Arkaine's Valor: Remember finding it in a cow run, with the druid I had back then, but lost it due to hardware problems
Skin of the Vipermagi: Got a few of them, maybe 5-6, but kept only 2 of them, a 34 all res (on Fall) and a 32 ( on MindGame).
Shaftstop: Got 4 of them (1 on Beast, 1 on Sweetspot, 1 on DashDance, and the last one in L-Cancel's Stash)

-Shields-
Stormshield: Currently on my Barb. Found at Mephisto.
Homunculus: Currently on my Necro.

-Boots, gloves and belts-
I don't think there's anything special about these
Gore Rider: Got 2 of them ( 1 on my Assassin, and the other one on my Amazon )
Waterwalk: With 64 to life, on my Barb

As for the gloves, I went with Frostburns on my Necromancer, Magefist on my Sorceress, and Bloodfist on every other character.

And for the belts, Nightsmoke for my Sorc and Necro, Razortail for Amazon and string of ears for all others.

-Jewelry-
Highlord's Wrath: 3 times. On Sweetspot, on Dashdance and in L-Cancel's stash
Mara's Kaleidoscope: 26 all Res, in my Necromancer's stash
Tal Rasha's Adjudication: On my Sorc, duh
Rare Amulet: The one my Barb wears, which is why I Shael'd his Grandfather... 14 all res (35 to poison), 16 Strenght, 6% Mana Leech
Raven Frost: I love it when my characters are wearing two of them lol, got 6 for now, still need 4 :/ . One of them is 19/241
Bul Kathos' Wedding Band 2 of them, both on my Sorc.

-Charms-
Skillers: 1 Martial Arts, 1 Shape-Shifting, 1 Poison and Bone, 1 Fire, 1 Cold/12 FHR ( I know I found more skillers, but only kept those )
Others: 20 Life SC (X4) 100 poison SC (X5). I also remember having a 3 max dmg/20 AR/18 life SC on my previous Hard drive, which died

-Runes-
Found at least 5 Um, also found 2 Ist, 2 Mal, 1 Gul

Multiplayer: I never MPed with these characters, but would like to, if possible :)

I see this post is getting rather long, I hope there is to rule about this on this forum.

For anyone just starting in 1.09 or interested in starting in 1.09 I've gotten a stash together with some starter gear and a bit of other stuff sent off to thyiad for the Christmas Giveaway. Now is as good a time as ever to maybe start searching for that 1.09 Raven Claw or try out some of those old nostalgic characters you used to love while actually being able to plausibly make it to level 99.

Welcome aboard the 1.09 train. Make sure you read through the spf rules stickied on the forum. As for your lost character, sorry about the loss but don't try to edit back in. You'll be banned from MPing/trading if your using/pimping hacks. Even if it is an exact copy. Now if you had a backup of the character and went to the last known good backup that is allowed but should only have to happen the one time. If you're not already doing so, using ATMA will help to keep things organized and I believe runs backups of your characters for you.

Nice drops on the different runes and gear. Sounds like you've gotten quite a bit of time invested into your different characters. Good luck getting SC/HC septs in both classic and expansion. That is quite an endeavor and I look forward to hearing updates about progress. Especially with the firewall sorc. I've never had the real patience to learn to set the walls up for maximum effectiveness.

My pally's made it through nm with Sigons on nearly the whole time. That set is amazing for twinking and really lasts. If you have that either of your lower level melee characters will make it just fine further into NM while awaiting for the better gear to drop. Heck, I'm using pretty craptastic gear on my pally and he's been tearing things up. RobbyD's been working on a werewolf and might have some good insight to help you out there if you've got any questions as well.

As far as MP goes, RobbyD runs a Hamachi server (which I know nothing about but is some kind of MPing platform). Otherwise there haven't really been enough of us on here to do any MPing together. My internet at home is pretty crappy and unreliable so I could try to play but might have interrupted connections. It's been running better lately but Idk if it's steady enough to keep up with an MP game. Maybe I'll post something tonight, if I'm on, for a tcp/ip game on the single player MP sub-forum (at the top of the SPF main page). I'm Central Time America so if you're close on time maybe we could match up, given you're playing 1.09b and not 1.09d :/ Enjoy your stay and may your drops run green and gold.

Don't worry, I never cheated on SP, it was just hell frustrating to lose my MF Sorc (679% MF iirc) for such a silly mistake. I did some Hero editor in the past, mostly for testing builds and for making overpowered chars for fun, and these characters NEVER ever interacted with my legit characters.

If you're not already doing so, using ATMA will help to keep things organized and I believe runs backups of your characters for you.

I already use Atma, it's quite useful, and I like the drop calculator too :)

Thanks! I plan to give an update every week or so, maybe more often if I do a lot in a short period. As for the Firewall, I like to slow enemy packs with Frozen Orb, then I cast a firewall while facing the enemies like:

-> being me
X being the enemy pack
| being firewall

-> |X Then I run to one side of the Firewall, and move left/right so the enemies walk into the Wall while trying to get to me.


I have a question about the Necromancer, what is a good build for a SP 1.09 Necro?
Mine is currently using CE + Amp, Revive + Amp and Bone Spirit + Lower Res, and a Merc + Life Tap, which is WAY too hard to play, and is not effective at all, so I plan to restart it.

Quick update: I'm currently playing my Classic Softcore Sorc, she just finished Normal. Killed Diablo at level 25, did cows on Players 8 until level 37. Saved Cain, now heading for the Countess.

I've been pretty lucky with the maps so far, in Stony Field, the WP, Cairn Stones and Underground Passage are all very close to each other, near the entrance from Cold Plains. In Dark Wood, the Exit from Underground Passage is really close to the Tree and WP, so that helped clearing this "boring part" quickly.

I used to play 1.07 in the past, and remembered this today, Frozen Orb was different in 1.07, because I remember that in order to deal the most damage on a single enemy, I had to Shift-Cast just besides the enemy (so the middle "ice ball" doesn't hit), like the closer it was, the more damage it dealt. But if I casted directly on the enemy, it would do less damage. it seems it was fixed in 1.09. Don't know if you guys knew about this?

The frozen orb thing has been brought up in RobbyD's 1.09 guide and the different casting style is discussed in retrospect for people running 1.07/8 FO/static sorcs.

I haven't started working on a necro in 1.09 with my current character set. But I did try making a couple way back when on battle.net. I made a summoner before and with amp damage, revives, might merc, CE, and lots of plus skills they were okay against cows and what not. I seem to remember act bosses pretty much destroying them as well unfortunately. RobbyD's gotten one pat'd and I believe that he wrote up a nice thread for him. Was the standard summoner/ce/amp necro like I discussed. I remember revives making a solid difference when you picked up good monsters to use like high attack rate/damage. I remember bone spirit really sucking and I'm not too sure if lower resists actually helps increase bone spirit damage or not. I do know it helped quite a bit when using poison nova so that may be something to consider.

For as much as people like gomule, ATMA has been really great for me so far. I love the drop calculator.

I've been thinking about running some NM Andy for the soj's that my sorc is missing. I have a feeling two of those bad boys would make a nice difference in her damage output. Plus I want to get her leveled up some more because I'm interested in running some higher players setting A5 superchest runs to look for some runes.

I feel like I've hit a wall with my pally. He is having some major issues in Hell, for what reason I'm not sure. Cursed bosses are destroying me, even after adding some stat points into vitality. Decided to go back and do some NM cows/cold cave runs and get him leveled up enough to equip that cruel mythical sword he's got. Only a couple of levels to go and he'll be doing better, I hope. Also did some NM cows with my nova sorc and remembered why she was so fun on cattle.net back in the old days. Made me want to go work on my LF zon just the slightest bit... But I think I want to get that WF, buriza, eaglehorn, or silence bow before I really start in on her. The levelling is going so slow, I just want to be able to keep moving on to get this guy to Pindeh to test out his real purpose. I guess he'll get there eventually. Maybe it'll be time to switch to p1 or p3 for a bit through hell just to get past some of the boring stuff.

Played quite a bit since the last two days, Blast (Classic SC FO/FW Sorc) went from level 37 to 54.

On my way from Act 2 Normal to Act 2 NM:
Found The Face of Horror, Manald Heal and Lenymo, helps a bit with resists and mana regen.
Gravenspine X2, from the Smith and in Far Oasis
Found SteelDriver (240%) in Ruined Temple from one of Sarina's minion, nice looking stats. I don't know if there is any build that can use this effectively.
Cubed 50 + PGems

When I faced Coldworm the Burrower, he was Immune to both Fire and Cold, but my Fire Walls still killed him, how could this immunity be broken?

Ran Arcane sanctuary P8 from level 42 to 51, stayed at P8 afterwards. I then finished Act 2 and 3 NM, and decided to do Meph runs. Luckily, I found a spectral shard after about 10 runs, and Wall of the Eyeless on the very next one lol. Also found Tarnhelm (38%) about 10 mins later, and this made me think about one thing I need help with:

I have no idea what would be the best gear for a Classic FO/FW Sorc, I thought about either going + Skills and mana or high resists ( I feel like having a good Mana pool, high skills level and nice resists all at once is impossible in Classic).

If going for resists, I'm not sure if I should use The Ward or a 3 Pdiamond shield, and if I should use Full Iratha. I feel this would lead to a huge mana issue, where I would just drink lots of potions or waste many points in Energy. I already have 125 base energy, because I HATE having to be careful about mana consumption. It would also result in less killing power. Maybe there are other alternatives that I am not aware of, any clue?

If going for + Skills and Mana, I'd go with like Sigon's shield or Wall of the Eyeless (but cast speed isn't relevant with this build, except for Teleport), Magefist or Frostburn, Nightsmoke, Spectral Shard, Silks of the Victor (maybe should I go with Goldskin?). I fear that with this kind of gear, I will get killed REAL quick in Hell.

Well, I'll try and look what I can do, maybe doing some kind of mix to be average in everything.

I haven't played classic but am aware of the tough item changes there. I think if you look at some of the 1.07 guides they have some good tips on gear to use that will apply to classic play. Since you've already invested so many points in your energy I would use the frosties over the magefist. Like you said, you don't need the fcr except for teleport and the spectral shard has plenty to help with that. If you need the resists do the 3 pdiamond shield, or if you need the skills do the sigons. My guess is the plus skills will help out more than the additional resists as far as killing goes. I'd stick with the victors for the plus skill over the goldskin. You could always use an orb with plus skills and the sigons then on switch use the diamond shield/wall of the eyeless with the spectral shard. Unless... You can't switch on classic can you? So I'd say the best balance. As long as your resists are out of the red then they don't make quite as much of an impact on your survival when compared to the necessity of resists in 1.10+.

If you really want to survive, start dumping some points into vitality or else you'll get 1 hit KO'd once you make it into Hell. My sorcs at lvl 64 with 7-800 life right now and it only takes a couple of hits in hell to knock her life down. She is a nova sorc so she does get a lot more up close and personal with the monsters, but still... I say one of the best ways to help out mana is to pick up every ring that drops from now on (in NM/hell) and start looking for a bahamuts. I've got one with something like +130 to mana or some ridiculously high number like that. With the frosties on that bumps her mana up a ton to be able to nova a lot. Given your high investment in energy and use of timered skills, I'm going to say you probably won't have too many problems running out of mana.

Wow - I take a little break from D2 and look at all this activity in the 1.09 thread!

A lot of questions have been answered, but I'll add my 2 cents.

First of all, welcome ERayz to us 1.09 OldSkoolers! I see Cheerupemokid10 has given you a proper welcome already! That is some seriously cool gear you've accumulated already - and I thought I was super rich in 1.09 terms (though I don't see a Schaefer's Hammer or Tal's Armor in the list - those are 2 finds that have been put to serious use on my characters). I do very much want a Windforce as well - I continue to run Pindle/Baal/Snapchip with my WW Barb on that hope.

On a 1.09 Necro - yes, I've patted one (MasterGomez), and while it was a challenge, it also turned out to be the only character that I patted without a single death. I had a very hard time finding a build for 1.09, and ended up coming up with my own - I dubbed it a Melee/Minion Artilary Necro (MMAN) - relying on a strong IG and Merc, along with useful revives for the Minions, and relying on Lower Resists + Bone Spear (yes, LR works on Bone damage in 1.09) for PIs, and doing much of Hell on P1 to let CE work well. Since Amp doesn't break PI in 1.09, I would use LR to enhance the fire damage of CE. I chose Bone Spear over Bone Spirit because it is fast and pierces, and is singularly enhanced by a White wand (especially with +3 Bone Spear, which can be shopped from Normal Drognan).

On Frozen Orb - yes, in 1.09, you want that to pass directly through the target - and not even exploding on the target, but to pass all the way through.

@cheerupemokid10: I'd like to help you with your Pally - mine actually had a pretty easy time of Hell until the Durance of Hate (ironically, when he was able to wield the Schaefer's) - he was using HoBL and then a Cruel Conquest Sword (handy for the low level req). What's his (and merc's) current gear, and what specifically really seems to trip him up?

I think I've come up with a good item set for my Classic Sorc

Helm: not decided yet, probably rare with res or maybe just a 2os Perfect Sapphire if needed
Weapon: Since there are no orbs in Classic, I'll stick with Spectral Shard, Teleporting quickly might save my life a few times, and +50 Mana and +10 All res is alright too.
Armor: Goldskin has semi-decent Def (good for Classic I guess), and +35 All resist will help me in Chaos Sanctuary
Shield: The Ward for 30-50 All resists
Gloves: Magefist for Mana Regen, + 1 Fire Skills for better damage input from Fire Wall and 20% FCR
Belt: Nightsmoke, 10 all res, 20 Mana, 50% damage goes to Mana
Boots: Hotspur will be hard to find, so I will have to run norm Coldcrow (based on ATMA's Calculator), but provide 45 Fire Res, 15 Max to Fire Res, and 15 Life
Rings: I don't expect finding that but SoJ X2 for 25% bonus to Mana, and +1 Skill
Amulet: Aiming for a +2 Sorc Skills which should be easy to find, and if possible, with a decent bonus to mana.

On Hell difficulty this sorc would have (without helm):
80-90 Fire Res (penalty is only 50% in Classic, right?)
35-55 in others
+4 All skills, and 1 more in Fire
70% FCR
Mana Regen 25% (might put extra points in Warmth when main skills are maxed)
50% bonus to Mana
110 to Mana
50% Damage to Mana

Her stats will be like

80 Strenght for Goldskin
51 Dex for Spectral Shard
rest in Vit
125 Energy

As for the Necro this is by far my least favorite class in D2. I read your entry about MasterGomez, and that convinced me to use Bone Spear :) I don't think I will stab monsters with Poison Dagger though. I read a build somewhere and I want to try a combination of Thorn Merc, Iron Maiden, Revives, CE, and a Golem ( I never knew which golem is best in this patch).


EDIT: OMG just found a SoJ and Magefist from NM Meph in the same drop !

Well EdTheJanitor has been cleaning things up in the cold caves and he's sitting at lvl 65.5. Almost ready to weild his Cruel Mythical Sword which I'm going to put an eth, shael to reach the 4fpa bp since I have no Cat's Eye or Highlord's yet, and either a 21%ed jewel or 15 max jewel. He's using rockstopper, goblin toe (might switch to waterwalks for life), sander's gloves (might switch over barbs LoH for a while though), Que Hagen's, string, Angelic Ammy/rings, butchers pupil, and moser's with 2 pdiamonds for the 63@res.

His resists are in the positive in hell. His block is at 75 with holy shield active. I just think the issue is his life was too low and so as soon as he was getting amped by cursed champs he was getting taken out. He's hitting at the 5fpa right now and might not be leeching enough back either. I don't think I have any LL other than on the rockstopper and with the reduction in hell that may be making a good difference. Thinking about switching on to Tal's helm for the leeching but don't know how much the DR and resists will drop after taking off the rockstopper. I also think -25% def eth bug will make a difference as well once I can equip that MS. He can still kill really quick, it's just that he gets killed really quick himself when I'm not careful. Need to put some life charms or something on him I suppose.

@RobbyD: I was getting worried about you there for a while. It was strange to not have your responses filtering through the SPF. Glad you're back on and hopefully got a renewed craving for some delightful 1.09.

@ERayz: awesome drop with the SoJ and magefists! That will help your sorc out a lot. I forgot about there being no class items in classic so the spectral will probably be your best bet for now.

I read through Urlik's rune finding guide and was really struck by the odds for Ist+ (IIRC) to drop on the sparkly chests at /p8. So I pm'd Thy and asked if superchest runs at higher player settings would be asking for the banstick with an approval back. Here's my thinking: Bonesaw's superchest and the other cold cave chests have a chance to drop any rune el through zod and something like 16 runes per 100 runs with roughly one of those having a chance at being a HR. Given the increased player settings and a slowing based build like medusazon with hf merc or a frost nova/glacial spike sorc with an hf merc, you could net more HR's than that listed drop rate from that guide. It may be the pre 1.13 answer for rune farming...?

I'd do a little more research on your build idea - Thorn merc and IG auras might not work well together (and really, I think Might + Amp will make for much more effective posse). PI stops all that - Thorns, Might, whatever, so you just have to have the most effective PI solution you can muster.

@cheerupemokid10 - thanks for the welcome back - I've work a little on my dual Druids - got them to Act 2 and my 1.09 guy has gotten the Staff made. On rune farming - I guess it depends on what you want the runes for. If you want Silence, I really think Countess is, by far, your best option. If you want to use runes for 1.10s runewords, then sure, run those chests, but I've never had a rune over Vex drop in 1.09, and the vast majority of my Um+ runes have come from Countess.

But, try it and see what kind of results you get.

Well I'd like the runes for all the reasons I suppose... I'd like to try making a silence bow since I have been eluded by any other good bows. I guess I have to find the base for the thing too still though, which could drop during those runs. Also for the beta runewords and for 1.13 runewords if/when I start the switch up to that. I'm in for 1.13 stuff in the christmas giveaway so maybe I'd be lucky enough to get some alright gear there. But probably not an infinity for this Poison Quartet I've dreamed of for a couple of years. It just seems like it may be an alternative to the heightened rune drops that were added in 1.13 and possibly even out that rune hunting field that is weighted so heavily against 1.09. May be another reason for some people to try time travelling if the theory holds out.

Either way, I'm not close to being ready to trying it out yet. I'm lacking gear for any of the build ideas to run it and would probably just get 1 hit KO'd trying to teleport past mobs, or search through chest drops, etc.

Thanks! I still think SoJs are a pain IN the *** to find IMO, but I feel they could be much easier to find in Classic, since there are no Raven's, Dwarf Star or Bul Kathos.

Also thanks a lot for pointing this out, about my necro build. I did not think about PI at all omg ! But while it may be bad against PI, I believe it will be useful in cows... I'll have to try this out. I guess I'll have to use CE + Lower resist and bone spear spamming against PI. Don't know if should put points in Poison Nova ? I feel that if I do this, my skill points will be spread too much; Curses, revives, bone spear + prerequisites, CE, poison nova.

Today, I ran Normal Coldcrow like a mad man and finally found Hotspur after 13 rare boots. Then started Hell difficulty, and was nicely surprised to see my fire resist being at 90%. So far I found two items that I believe have great potential in Classic: 6os Executionner Sword and 6os Gothic Bow.

Any Idea what I should put in these? I thought about 2-3 Perfect Skulls but idk.

Well I never used bone spear in 1.09 but I did use poison nova. With plus skills it was pretty decent but not a crowd killer on its own. You'd probably be better off sticking with bone spear for the faster casting since I believe nova has a next delay before being cast again. CE + LR + Spear seems to be a winning combo but switching the spear out for the poison nova might not be too bad for the cancelling of regen.

Awesome resists going for your sorc. The SoJ issue can be avoided in expansion by running NM Andy since she can't drop bul kathos, ravens, or dwarfs. But if you're just looking for jewelry she's good for just about everything else. I think the only ammy she can't drop is Mara's, might be one other. I'm sure RobbyD will set me straight here.

Socketing... well... since there's no jewels or runes then a couple of skulls and topaz' lightning for the higher max damage or ruby's fire for the higher average damage would be the way to go I would think. Correction: 6os Perfect emerald bow, no skulls. RobbyD confirmed that this makes for a pretty killer bow with 6 perf emeralds. If you multi it carries over to all arrows and has some bugged way of stacking the damage to make it really good.

Nice to know about 6 Perfect Emerald, i'll do this on my Gothic Bow for sure then, but I'll need to find a source of mana leech at least. As for the Executioner Sword, I think I could use like 3 Perf. Skulls and 3 Perf .Topazes cause there are less monsters immuned to Lightning. But the Storm Casters in CS are gonna be hard to kill with it. Anyways, I got plenty of Pgems to waste, so it's worth the try.

I knew that NM Andy couldn't drop Bul Kathos, bu I didn't know about Raven's or Dwarf Star :) But since running Meph is faster, I might farm my SoJs in Classic in the future (depending on how hard it is to run Meph in Classic). Then I'll transfer these SoJs on another character and convert him to Expansion, or directly trough a ATMA stash. I hope this is allowed ?

Just a quick little bit for any lurkers out there or people reading up on 1.09. There are some items in the Christmas Giveaway if you want to try out time travelling.

Classic to Expansion is allowed but expansion to classic isn't IIRC. Same thing with no going back in patches like 1.09d to 1.09b or like what's happened now in the forum for 1.13c players who mistakenly updated to 1.13d while not many others did. That takes those 1.13d people out of lots of trade pools until, for whatever reason, everyone updates. But it can be done through stashes so you don't have to waste the time making a character, loading up, switching over, unstashing, etc.

I'm pretty sure NM meph can drop the raven/dwarf so that only takes out the slight chance for the unique ring to roll as a BKWB. If you are truly searching for SoJ's then NM andy is the single best bet to find it in terms of drop odds.

I forget about Classic not having A5 either, so the lightning will probably be the better way to go there seeing as there are more fire immunes than lightning immunes.

I really want to be able to get some 1.13 runewords going for this Poison Quartet I want to run. I had started it a while back but had none of the gear to match for the ideal end set up. I can start shopping for some +venom/shadow claws to up my venom damage and make a kicker out of her with the -%PR weapon and +%PD armor (bramble?). Also want to run something similar with a rabies druid. Then the one I think will be the most interesting is a Poison nova/explosion necro with mages using LR or, if I could ever possibly make one, an Infinity to save the points in LR and add that much more synergy. I've heard decent things about LF/PJ zons but that the poison damage really just takes forever to kill them off. Maybe using the PJ and then switching to bow and strafe slowing/cold at them until they die from poison? I don't want to just have the poison skills as a secondary thing but to be the main killer for each of the characters so I want to find intuitive ways to get the poison to really do it's job.

I'm not absolutely certain that the bugged poison stacking in bows works in 1.09 Classic, but it definitely does in LoD. With Andy bling drops, I can only speak to LoD - NM Andy is the best source of SoJ from what I understand, but I never ran her at all, and I still ended up with all the SoJs I needed for my builds - many of mine came from running Hell Countess. Hell Andy can't drop Mara's, but I think that's the only 1.09 bling she can't drop.

Got my WW Barb to level 97 running Pindle/Baal/Snapchip - hoping against hope that a gold Hydra Bow drops.

@ERayz - My 1.09 Necro tore through almost any pack of monsters with ease.... until PIs, and PI is ridiculously common in 1.09. I chose Bone Spear over Poison Nova because White focuses on Bone Spear and LR helps magic damage - I did try some Poison Nova, but abandoned the effort. Actually, on P1, Bone Spear is quite effective.

@cheerupemokid10 - poison quartet, huh? Well, then, I see you have a very vested interest in high runes in 1.09 - it takes a Sur to make that ridiculously overpowered 1.10s Bramble armor - I think cows are your best bet for a HR, but I've done my fair share of cows with the highest rune being a Lem, I think. 1.09 has really low HR drop rates.

@cheerupemokid10: The main reason why I wanted to run Meph on NM was because he cannot drop LoD rings in Classic, so I thought the time per run/odds for a SoJ were much better there IMO, but it's still to confirm.

@RobbyD: Nice job with your Barb, level 97 is really good. Are Baal runs more efficient than cow runs for leveling a WW Barb?

I don't know if Baal runs are more efficient than cow runs for the singular goal of leveling - what I do know is that I've gotten Aldur's Deception, Griswold's Valor, and a Grandfather from Baal's minions, so I'm running targets with the best chance to drop Windforce. I think WF is possible from cows, but prohibitively rare, whereas Baal, Pindle, and Snapchip are the best targets in 1.09 for one.

Well I haven't made any progress on my characters over the past few days with work and such. And I don't think I'll be playing tonight since I have grading to do tonight still. I'd like to get it done before the weekend so I can relax and not worry about anything else until finals next week.

That leaves Ed still at 65.5 and waiting for his cruel MS. I can't wait to get him into A5 Hell and test out this Pindle theory... I just might have to go p1 up to Pindle just to make it there.

I didn't know that the beta bramble was better than the 1.13 one. I really need to check up on those beta runewords and see if there are any others to try for like the CTA. I've got a +2 HS scepter but with no sockets... If anything, maybe HF rushing and switching to 1.10s for the higher hf drop chance. That would be a lot of runs and a lot of cubing... But running the chests/LK would probably be an equally high number of runs and cubing to get everything. I've just got this itch to see if the theory matches up with reality about those chests. Lots of people swear by LK or at least used to.

Maybe I'm just feeling lucky since I've been having pretty good drops on this pally. He hasn't found the most S/U's, but he's been a charm/gem finding fool and has netted my first mid-rune on a monster drop out of all my characters (the Um found in A5 nm a couple of weeks ago).

I've seen a Zod drop before in 1.09 so I know it's possible. Unfortunately, it was when I was a b.net player way back when testing out a frenzy barb idea with an editor in A5 Hell just past the frigid wp. I was breathless and at the same time so disappointed that it was found under such circumstances.

Here we go, my first character to beat the game in Classic mode, Baroness Blast

When I finished Act 3 Hell, I still didn't have Goldskin, so I decided to run Meph in order to obtain it, before starting Act 4. I ran Meph for a few hours in Hell difficulty, but finally concluded that I'd have better odds in NM. Running Meph on NM at P5 took about the same time as running Hell Mpeh P1, and gave much more interesting items. And after about 50 runs, he dropped the so conveited unique Full Plate Mail.

As soon as Blast wore Goldskin, I noticed her resistances, 90/75/75/75 ::thumbup: but I was wearing Duskdeep, a helm I don't like. I decided to use Tarnhelm instead for the +1 Skill and Threw Duskdeep in my stash. Her resistances are now 90/62/62/62 which is very good IMO. Act4 took about 30-45 minutes, I was playing on P1, and most monsters went down in one Frozen Orb, and instantly when they walked in my Fire Walls. I died once vs Hephasto (Lightning enchant, holy freeze, extra fast) I had to be a bit careful in Chaos Sanctuary, but killing Oblivion knights first in monster packs made things rather easy. and the fight against Diablo took about..... 10 seconds, uncapped Static Field is really overpowered. Blast could tank Diablo' s ligthning hose with ease,and even with her low 530 HPs, her life bulb stayed full. Only his melee attacks damaged her a little (2 hits = lost ~200 HP).

She's currently level 68
