1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

CS is a tough place for a Pally in 1.09 - I'd suggest taking extra care.

On your plans - you can't shop Cryptic Swords (due to vendor bug in A1 and A2), so keep an eye out for one to drop. However, you CAN shop Mythical Swords.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah, I'll definitely be taking things down a notch versus all of those OK's in the CS. I've got a cryptic sword that dropped while doing some pindle runs so I'm in the clear there. Unless mythical swords are a better option for speed/dps against the cryptic swords. Guess I should check that out before I start trying to roll one either way. Cruel and of quickness on another chippie roll would be pretty epic... but cruel and of evisceration would work equally well... even just plain cruel will do. We'll see what rolls and what I choose to go with.

Hopefully the CS and A5 keep going well. No school Wed, Thurs, Fri so I've got a splendid 5 day weekend to get this bad boy into Hell, hopefully. Had gotten my brother in-law-in-law (wife's sister's husband) started on some 1.13 D2 a couple months ago and might be playing some 1.13 with him this weekend to steal some of my time away from 1.09. But it should be fun playing with someone else again.

PB's can't roll cruel correct? Even if it's a ilvl 93 drop? I couldn't remember how the recipe rolled and changed the lvls of the weapon. The list I read from you says not... which really sucks because I looked through my stash and found a magical PB along with my magical cryptic sword. I think I'm going to stick with it for the faster speed rather than go searching for a mythical sword. The average damage might be a little higher with the mythical, but I suppose I run with that possibility of the higher max damage this way.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

PBs can't roll Cruel with the chippie recipe, no, because the qlvl of the item is too low. As for Mythical Sword versus Cryptic Sword, I don't know which would be better - MS has a much tighter damage range than CS, but it's a little bit slower. But, it also has a higher qlvl, so if you were wanting a sword spawning big elemental damage, I think MS is the way to go.

In the CS, my advice is to run around all the Doom Knights straight to the OK - they usually cast Decrep and you can take them out, letting your merc tank the Doom Knights and whatnot.

That Cruel of Quickness was truly epic - I've rolled probably 10 Cruels, but never "of Quickness" - probably my best ever was "of the Wraith".

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

What about using the pgems recipe to reroll magic items? Then using the socketing quest don't you get max sockets on a magic roll? thus returning a 6 socket cruel pb? or does that pgem recipe also leave the qlvl too low? If so, I may be shopping some MS's for the chance at high elemental damage as well as the cruel roll.

Haven't had a chance to play the pally any more so he's still sitting at the river of flame before taking on the CS.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

If you use a socket quest on a magical item, it can only get 1 or 2 sockets, and its completely random which one you will get. That is assuming that the item could get 2 sockets naturally, of course. If you used a socked quest on something like a wand or a dagger or something you would only get 1 socket no matter what.

If you want a phase blade with 6 sockets, it can only be a plain phase blade with no magic bonuses. A magic phase blade with the Jewelers prefix can get 4 sockets, and then you can hope for a good suffix like quickness or evis.

Also gg on the 1.09 Soul Cage , those were uber rare back in those days.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Damn I missed your 1.09 MFO! :) So great find with the Soul Cage, it's the only thing missing with my IK Barb.. Though I'm so in love with my Arreat's Face I don't know what I'd do if I ever found the IK Armor :)

I've been quite busy with real life, but I've still been managing to play a little bit during the last few months.

I've gotten my whirwind barbarian to lvl 70 doing NM Baalruns right now. Still going with Steeldriver, and will keep running NM Baal until lvl 76 for the IK Hammer. I played the whole NM with p7 and mostly I kill everything with 1-2 whirlwinds. I have might mercenary and I'm pumping strenght more than needed for gear, so that helps.

I have also done some mephisto runs with the my sorceress (lvl 88 now) and I have been REALLY lucky with the drops. First, I found Tal Rasha's Amulet and then THIS:

Doombringer
Champion Sword
One-Hand Damage: 117 to 292
Two-Hand Damage: 282 to 394
Required Dexterity: 103
Required Strength: 163
Required Level: 69
Sword Class - Fast Attack Speed
Indestructible
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 90
Fingerprint: 0xb509ec6a
+250% Enhanced Damage <--- 180 - 250% !!!
+30 to Minimum Damage
+100 to Maximum Damage
6% Life stolen per hit <--- 5 - 7%
Increase Maximum Life 20%
40% Bonus to Attack Rating
8% Chance to cast Level 3 Weaken on striking

So an elite unique with near perfect roll!

I haven't been trading at all, yet, but I figure this might be of some value to some of the frenzy barbarians playing 1.09 here, right? I like being independent, but if I'm sitting on something that might get me things that would be nearly impossible to find, that might change things.

So, I know this isn't a trade thread, but can I still ask: is there someone who would be interesting in trading that Doombringer sword? Or is there simply better options available, even in 1.09?

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

@Mouseman: That is a very nice sword and I'm glad to see you back! Hopefully we'll be having another 1.09 MFO in the near future, like around Christmas possibly. RobbyD had brought up a tc3 tourney idea or race to the Gull dagger with some character choice stipulations for the winner. As for the doombringer I would love to have the sword, but am running with dual cruel collosus blades on my frenzy barb so I'm not in the greatest need for new swords. Mostly just need some nice jewels to go in them to ramp up my damage a little more.

@Steven: also nice to see an old 1.09 face back in the thread.

Made it through the CS, albeit I did it on p1 just to get through fast. Switched back up to p8 to take on the bloody foothills and got two more levels, made it through the frigid highlands for another level and am getting ready to save Anya before moving through A5 more. Switched the general's tan do li lang for that unique shamshir or cresent... w/e it is that has the blinds target. Can't remember at the moment but the speed is pretty insane on it. A5 should be a cinch now:)

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I curse that 1.09 chipped recipe for making my Doombringer be second rate :) Although I think the 1.07 swords makes anything else obsolete prior 1.10 runewords.

I've been making headway towards the IK maul with my barbarian. He's lvl 73 now. I actually found out that running general A5 areas is faster XP than doing Baalruns. So first I was clearing out WSK lvl 2 & 3 plus throneroom before a Baalrun and after that I decided to seek a little bit diversity. Now I'm running nithlatlak's place far and wide plus the cold caves. Couldn't be happier with the decision, XP is better and also I get more drops.

Now the question is: when I finally reach lvl 76, what do I socket my IK maul with? Shael rune seems like the obvious choice, right?

EDIT: Googled up the german weapon speed calculator, and it seems dropping a shael to the maul won't change anything (40% -> 60% still second to last BP).

Charakter Barbarian
Waffe Ogerhammer / Ogre Maul
Fertigkeit Whirlwind
WIAS Frames pro Angriff Angriffe pro Sekunde
0 % 12 2
6 % 10 2.5
16 % 8 3.1
37 % 6 4.1
69 % 4 6.2

I guess this leaves me with socketing the maul with some of the crap damage jewels I've managed to find, since I don't need any life leech or other mods. Which one of these three would give the best result?

Crimson Jewel of Burning
Required Level: 49
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 63
Fingerprint: 0xa4c7a0b9
+6 to Minimum Damage
Adds 20-43 fire damage

Jewel of Carnage
Required Level: 18
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 65
Fingerprint: 0x79db2061
+13 to Maximum Damage

Ruby Jewel of Malice
Required Level: 58
Item Version: Expansion
Item Level: 75
Fingerprint: 0x8adb0a05
+34% Enhanced Damage
Attacker Takes Damage of 5

I'd of course use hel runes to replace the jewel if I found a better one.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah I believe using that shael will push you to the second to last bp but I can't remember. If you search the weapon speed calculator you can figure it out. Off-weapon ias does not help with WW fpa so a shael is going to be the best way to speed things up.

As far as the PB plan I had with the socketing... I think I was getting mixed up with the new socket recipe for rolling the sockets. So sad that I couldn't get a cruel 6os pb to throw 6 eld's in for some MAJOR undead ed. That would've been 450% just on the sword! ohh well... I'll stick with the 225% on weapon that I'll get from a 3os cruel MS/CS.

Still haven't gotten through A5 norm with the pally because I've preoccupied myself with trying to understand video cards. Looking for the cheapest possible laptop to run the game even if it's only on low settings. Found a doorbuster at walmart for 250 that can apparently run SC2 on low settings and all the D3 techie forum has been saying that if it can run SC2 then it can probably run D3 on the same settings. But there's also one for 500 that can definitely run it at low/mid. Except my wife does not want to spend that much right now... Phooey... Get a laptop on sale now or wait until taxes and pay more for the same thing.

Anyways, I'm done searching for laptops for now. Done wasting time on that dream... Hopefully I can get some D2 in this afternoon before all the festivities begin.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Yeah I know. I was just mixed up on how the sockets rolled on the socket quest with the new hel rune recipe. It's too bad the upgrade and add socket recipes weren't there back in 1.09. That could've made for some really great items...

Finished off A5 with my pally and I'm currently sitting at lvl 39 in A1 NM. lister's pack was much easier on norm this time around versus how it was running with my untwinked barb about a year ago. Man what a difference a few items make. Finally switched out the Sigon's set for some more useful gear through NM like a whitstans with 2 pdiamonds and a rockstopper for some awesome resists. A spirit shroud for the +1 skill, cbf, and decent defense. Running with goblin toes for now for the cb and a string of ears for the additional dmg red % to couple with the rockstopper. He's a pretty beefy pally for the time being. Will keep updated once I start making it through NM.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

@RobbyD: What do you think about holy shield in 1.09? I've banked up a bunch of skill points and I'm trying to decide what to invest in. The increased block % and def don't seem to make that huge of a difference, especially given that I don't have an HoZ yet. So are the extra points worth investing or is ~10 with +skills enough in Hell to help out?

To make him the beefy Pindle runner I'm hoping to turn him into I'll be maxing out sanctuary. But I have thought about working some points into something else to give him another skill like vengeance+conviction or holy shock. Idk it just seems like I'll have a ton of extra points by putting just a few in zeal for the AR and maxing fanat/sanctuary.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Hey everyone, I just started play D2 again, and decided to play some SP 1.09 for old times sake. This is my first time posting on the forum, so I figured I'd say, 'Hello!' and whatnot. Anywho, I'm running 1.09d with ATMA V as the only 3rd party program installed. Since I've only ever played SC, I figured I'd see how HC treats me. My long terms goals are to get my 3 favorite builds (Lag-mancer, LF javazon, and leap attack barb) up to Guardian with decent gear.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Welcome and good luck with your projects. Summoners are a little tougher in 1.09 than in the later patches. But the LF zon will definitely be a winner.

Even though this isn't quite your intro thread...

*kicks shins*
*steals wallet*

May the drops run green and gold :D

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

@cheerupemokid10: I like Holy Shield - if for no other reason than it's pretty much an automatic 75% CtB. The defense only gets applied to shield def in 1.09, yes, so if you aren't pumping a defense build (I did), just a point + skillers should get you to the blocking max. I made my Pally have a Zeal/Conviction switch with a Lightsabre and Tiamat's, and HS got the Tiamat's to 75% CtB. If you want to go with pumping Veng over HS, then just getting the 75% CtB should work.

I only went with 1 point + skillers in Sanctuary because I used it for the sole purpose of removing PI from undead - I have not tried running with it maxed... but it sure is a Pindle killer.

@tanookisuit: Welcome to the SPF, and especially to us 1.09 old-skoolers! I would suggest starting over from 1.09d to 1.09b, because (a) you can set player settings over P8 all the way to P64 in 1.09b, and (b) Chance to cast on items is broken in 1.09d (that's bad except for a Sorc and a Summon Necro - they like the broken CtC because the CtC on AoKL and Occy don't annoy the crap out of you in 1.09d).

Hey! Look over there!

*pulls down pants*
*runs away laughing wildly*

"Good Luuuuuuuuck!"

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Okay... one other question. Since I've finally made it to A2 NM I'm switching my merc. I've got the might merc right now and I think I've got him geared up to survive pretty decently... but I'm wondering if I should switch to the HF merc for the added crowd control for if/when I get swarmed. If I were to ever try out running the cows with this guy I'm wondering which would be better to stick with from now.

I know my frenzy barb gets a little overwhelmed as soon as he's swarmed and that's no fun. Leaves me with no cow runner atm as a matter of fact. He's staying a might merc for now and I'm hoping the lvls will bump him up to match me quickly and help him stay alive a little longer. My survival is no problem yet, but I'm wondering if that may change once I get into Hell and haven't found any more great armors yet other than the duriels shell my barb is wearing.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I'd go with Might if he's going to do primarily Pindle - HF if primarily Cows/Baal. I went with Defiance for my Pally and he's good with Cows... but Lister knocks him around something fierce.

On balance, I'd probably say HF.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I made the switch to HF for now. While it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference for me, the merc has stuck around a lot longer than the might merc so far. I think the bigger difference will be once I make it to hell. I'm basically using all the gear I've got for him already, so he's not going to be jumping up the ranks in awesomeness any time soon as far as gear goes.

Given that, I think the HF will help a lot for questing the rest of the way through. Maybe once I get close to running pindle I'll switch back to the might for the added damage. Considering using charge to go along with sanctuary for the bigger damage boost. Coupled with the KB effect from sanctuary the other undead should hopefully bump out of the way and I can take him out quickly and efficiently.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

Alright, so I uninstalled and reinstalled the game and patched it to 1.09b. Wow, being able to go up to players 64 is ridiculous! My javazon is currently lvl 15 about to enter Tamoe. Quick question, where would the best place to try to find Titan's be? Where's the earliest place I could see it drop? Since this char is obviously untwinked, I'm trying to get at least some of the necessary items as soon as possible.

Re: 1.09 Roll Call - Goals, Progress, Finds

I think the earliest it can drop is NM Mephy, or at least he's your best first odds of finding it. Although the odds are slimmer on NM Meph than on Hell Meph for them to drop. And with much more options possible on Hell Meph, he's a better target to run for all the other items your javazon will be able to use like Shako/Peasant Crown, Skin of the Viper Magi, T-Gods, Lidless Wall, etc.

One of the only real places you'll be better off running NM bosses is NM Andy for Soj's since there's no chance for BKWB, Ravenfrost, or Dwarf's Star to drop from her. That increases your odds for any unique ring to be a Soj, all the way from 1/62 to 1/31 (or something close to that). It's in the item drop calculations for 1.09 in the D2Wiki.

The increased players setting is much more novelty than anything else. I recently played through on p13 for most of norm with my new pally just for kicks. That and I finally have some decent twink gear rounded up to make those lower levels much easier and normal go much faster.

With all the chippies he's collected I decided to give rolling my cryptic sword a chance and after a stash worth ended up with a 1-320ish arcing cryptic sword with three sockets. Went through my stash and found a rare jewel with even more lightning damage, something in the 60's I believe. Two more sockets open so one will probably go for an eth so I can stop worrying about AR and hitting and then I'll wait for another good jewel for the last one. With such a nice lightning roll on that it's hitting 2-387 lightning damage now with that jewel. CS's a pretty epic elemental sword... so I think I decided to max holy shock after sanctuary to give me a solid PI solution.

Then I still wanted to make up a cruel something and knew I couldn't shop another cryptic sword so I spent some time shopping with my baba and found a mythical sword. On the first roll I got 288% ed and 10% ias! not quite the of quickness like before but a very awesome roll on the ed. The damage spread is not quite as high as I'd hoped, especially after looking back at the damage listed on my CCBoQ, but I'm very satisfied either way. Especially being on the first roll! :D I had loaded up my whole stash expecting to blow through and see absolutely nothing after getting that lovely arcing CS but man. The damage reads out at 159-197 so that's got a pretty high average damage. With a little +min damage I might get something with almost equal average damage. The average damage on that is the same as the one handed average damage on that CCBoQ so maybe he will stay pretty on par with the baba given those stats.

I've found a 21%ed realgar jewel that I'm considering putting in to get past that 300%, but the damage increase would probably be miniscule compared to the 15 max damage jewel I also found yesterday.

I need to check the weapon calculator and see if I need to put a shael in that bad boy to reach the last breakpoints with fanat and without for when I'm using sanctuary. Of course I'll do an eth to ignore any chance to hit issues.

Otherwise I've been banking up stat and skill points for quite some time now. I've reached lvl 53 and made it past NM Shenk. My merc has even caught up in lvls with me now and makes a nice difference slowing down all those baddies. My kill speed is going down some with the butcher's pupil but he still takes the mobs down pretty quick still.

First this guy was a chippie finding machine and now he's found more charms than either of my other characters. And pretty great charms at that. Just found a 3 max 20 ar 4-6 fire damage sc. That one made my jaw drop. Other than that he's gotten several lc's with some pretty decent lightning and a dual fire and lightning damage with 9-50 damage between the two. got a 90 pdlc for now too. It's the first time I've completely filled up a stash and had to carry around a cube with me for drops.

Cold caves cautiously completed and the Ancients, while almost destroyed on /p8, left me deader than a doorknob from a cursed ww attack. After a switch to /p1 ancients went down like a breeze, level 59 reached, and throne was next. Kept it on /p8 through all the waves but Lister which was taken at /p1. Back to 8 for Baal and he went down like a fly. Thank goodness for goblin toes giving me some nice CB. Finished NM at lvl 60. Need one more or two more points for Holy Shock and then I'll finish maxing out Sanctuary leaving any extra points to go into Holy Shield afterward. I did have a lucky drop while running through the Arreat Plateau IIRC of an Um rune from one of those green spikey guys. Their name escapes me now. Second Um, first from barbs HF drop, and nothing to stick it in yet. Maybe if I find a better roll on another Viper Magi it'll go there.

I'm looking forward to getting this pally to pindle so I can see just how well he actually runs there and maybe get that WF or schaeffers. Then I've been thinking about running Countess for the Vex to make a Silence bow and create an awesome Medusazon. It's lovely how so many more effects carry over to all arrows in 1.09.
