Final Fantasy Forum Mafia Game Thread

Think I forgot to say earlier, I am fine with posting the mafia QT.

Drixx, I just had to kill you. Damage control and you were giving me something I could argue. Will lasagna let you forget the vendetta?

No real vendetta. There's no hard feelings in this game. The article I wrote which is waiting to go live for the next mafia game where the host(s) are willing to take on a bunch of new players actually talks about the fact that the game involves posts which attack other posts or people's roles, but that the thing to keep in mind is that nothing is personal.

I was just flabbergasted by the fact that you followed my script for what I'd have done as an anti-town black mage, and it worked. LOL.

My thoughts on the whole Moar>>Drixx>>BPC thing was this:

Drixx would most likely be town, because he reacted to the game, but Moar reacted to a reaction, and would have more likely been the scummy one of the pair. I'd like to think that's how I would have read it in game, but, of course, I had knowledge that quite possibly tainted my perception.

I really appreciate pharphis letting me co-host with him, I learned WAY more hosting this, albeit slow, game, than in the other games I've played. I'm really excited to stick around and play more now!

Thanks for hosting pharphis and logoutzero. It's great to see games with no cop. Now town just has to learn how to win those games.

Grats mafia. It wasn't a pretty win but it worked.

Our original thoughts for the game were to have no cop/watcher/tracker anything, and force town to rely on intuition. We added in Scan to help, hoping to allow town to catch people in lies, but, the whole "job =/= alignment" thing pretty much made it so nobody needed to make a fake job claim. Looking back, we could have done it differently, but, meh, you live and learn!

Oh, it's over. :p

Made it to D7 in a game with two killing factions, one of which had a strongman, 3 day vig (2 performed their kills) AND a poison kill AND two modkills and only 21 players. I do not understand.

I really liked some of the roles we had, but probably liked blue mage and SK the most. WE originally intended to have the mediator have a chance to recruit up to one player if they were a squire, but only if we had more players.

I'd like most of all to hear thoughts on the SK's chakra ability, odd day talk enabler and nameless dance.

In general I'm super disappointed in what happened with this game. Two modkills sucks ofc but so does 4(?) no lynches. I felt like no one else even wanted to try which annoyed me for preparing the game to begin with. I understand people are sometimes busy, and that's fine, but if you look at the votes probably 80% of them are by mafia.

I don't know if it's a problem with this game (I doubt it) or just the attitudes of the players this one specific time. I had several players tell me they weren't really into the game because others weren't.

Question mods....AAA's Cover: would he have taken the shots from both mafia and SK if they were both aimed at town the night he used his ability?

Nameless Dance: It's fine. Very very strong for the scum, fine as a 1x in an otherwise weak mafia team I think. There's just so much you can do with global roleblocks and blackmailing people and such.

Chakra: I still think it wouldn't have been COMPLETELY broken if the kill immunity extended to lynches. :D Other than that, I like it, seems balanced...although apparently variants of NK immunity's are common for SK's, so that's pretty unfortunate, but it's my fault for not doing my research and knowing that claiming nk immune was a sign that I was a SK.

odd day talk: Different. Is day talk considered an OP thing for scum to have? If so, then that's a decent way of toning it down...although that combined with a godfather type effect on him possibly makes it as strong as just being a day talk enabler.

RE: this games activity

I think it was a combination of the talkative players who would be into the game being scum, and the ones who weren't scum, getting killed. Also, possession of powers by town could very well have made people less willing to draw attention to themselves.

BTW: I was denied 3 out of my 5 kills!

Also: FoE: I was actually going to kill laarz, because my plan originally was to just kill all the silent people throughout the game unless I had a reason to believe someone was scum, in order to let the talkative ones do the scum hunting for me...and laarz is usually fairly quiet. So, you replacing him in this game went a long ways towards letting your role live as long as it did. :D

cover would only protect from one kill and only protect townies. If more than one town death, it would randomly select one

Nice job team, glad I got into this! Told you it would be OK moar ;)

On the activity - very much a shame that most people barely participated. I think it was a pretty great setup with some unusual roles that I really liked. I myself got pretty excited the last 3 day phases.

On my team's play - I think we did pretty well over all. Minor mistakes, but a lot of sound decisions. The start of the game we all played terrible, but we got over it, managed to distance ourselves from eachother and got town to focus on other players (which wasn't especially hard given that we were pretty much in control of the conversation during the last half of the game). Especially moar deserves credit. The "he's gonna talk you all into lynching me argument" was surprising but worked, and she managed to actually put of enough of a town vibe to apparently get most people to believe in her during the next days. The play to kill drixx was awesome. More action is always great.

I was also pretty satisfied with getting AAA lynched using my own actual role.

Day talk was very nice, it definitely made quite a difference during some days. Nameless Dance was also a great ability, and I had the feeling the entire game that using it N1 may have helped confusing and stiffling conversation for the town. It was great for our team, but probably not for the game.

I do believe that my team was somewhat underpowered. Without the modkills and pretty much consistent bad play from town I think the game would have ended a lot earlier. 4 scum out of 21 felt really low to me. If moar had been lynched when she should and Numbers had hit us with a single kill, it would have been very very hard. I would probably have preferred an extra member in exchange for some of our powers, but in general, I think the game was OK balanced.

Btw, I'm completely fine with linking to our QT if anybody wanna read.

I was pretty quiet for the first few days though ;)

I'm suprised you didn't take the opportunity for exposing me to town with some hail mary fake claim before you got lynched though - since you obviously knew I was lying?

Edit: also, "denied a kill" is a nice way to describe trying to kill an already dead player :p

Yes, you were quite quiet but I has failed a shot at val and suspected doc self protection N1… So I shot him night 2. N3 I had an assortment of quiet people to pick from and got slowed+picked the same person you guys did, so there goes N3 and N4 kills...I would have shot scum every night after after that.

Good job on the AAA lynch, that was fantastic...and I did say to the town that you were at the top of my scum list and that ba and zokar should be looked at more closely as well..town wins if they listen to me. ^^

Would you guys have ever shot at me?

I would have, if you hadn't been our primary deflection candidate. You so scummy and the only one we could get lynched that day, so we couldn't kill you.

My only downside with this game was that I put myself out of it with the day vig shot. I couldn't post after that, so I had to go down to the required two posts a day. I really hope I'm town next game. That is much more fun!

Oh wow! Ash and Freddy, you guys are awesome! I can't believe you haven't been on the lynch list, much less be in trouble the last 2 days!! Moar, you were amazing too! I can't believe you pulled that DK off like that! This is the first game I've won, but I feel like the weak link!

Numbers, you and Jcakes had us pretty much nailed, if CDM hadn't slowed you, you might have won. It was sad the town wasn't more proactive, but I can't complain too much.

I was afraid BA and I were gonna get linked because we kept passively ignoring one another while going after the same people. On Goryani's lynch, we were the first 3 votes! Too ballsy to all be mafia? Then on my lynch, Moar, BA, and FoE all ninja-locked me at the same time! I thought our goose was cooked then.

I'm totally fine with sharing our QT. I imagine "Ashy Poo" would be fine with it too, but I'll let him speak for himself.

Thanks to Logout and Pharph for hosting, I had a lot of fun even if there was l-i-t-t-l-e a-c-t-i-o-n in the middle. That's a play problem, not a hosting problem.

I don't think Techno or BA will mind. And it is custom to show the mafia thread. So I will post it.

I can't do that fancy link thingy. Do a copy paste, you lazy buggers.

Edit because I can now: It turned out as a link. GooddyGood. Enjoy and get lost and cuddle me, please.
Yes I am slightly drunk right now, but I want those cuddles anyway. They will be good!

Numbers, we *almost* targeted you the night we killed... CDM I think? It was a coin toss. Iirc, BA was the first to suspect you as a SK, then I came around about a game day later after your resistance to my assertion that we had 2 killing factions. Hit my radar like a ton of bricks, should have started running with it immediately. Overall, I feel like I played the whole game a bit too cautiously.

When we realized there were single-shot abilities, we thought it would be best to use Nameless Dance N1 so hopefully everyone else would waste some finite abilities. That's why you (and everyone else) were blocked N1. I was afraid no one would believe my ability description, especially since there were 2 NKs N1, but no one really questioned me.

The odd day daytalk was interesting. It gave us an intermittent advantage, but we had to plan ahead for the even days. That's one of the biggest reasons we thought there may be 2 mafias for a while, that they would have even day daytalk. That would be an interesting idea for 2 mafias though.

Also, Fred's strongman kills were totally baller!

Drixx: Thank you for responding. Was that really so hard? :P

Not at all. I just felt very dumb about it and I had all my start of semester professor paperwork which took a lot of time up, so it was just a matter of putting the time aside to go back through the thread.

Side notes: the mafia article is ready for whichever game it will be used to promote, and I'm back streaming this coming week and regular crusade articles and wiki work now that my job has settled into the more routine. Snow days have things a little hectic though. 2 of my sections have only seen me for one real class, which has had me scrambling to adjust the next 4-5 lecture plans to get them caught up from the snow days and back on schedule.

Oh, and one last thing: My first game as mafia was also with BA as the godfather! We lost that one, but finally pulled it off this time!
