Wacky project: Gabrielle´s quest

Re: Wacky project: Gabrielle´s quest

I have been toying with the idea of trying a v1.13 RWM Gabby (with ATMA stash allowed). 'Insight' would be a nice weapon to make, with about the same damage bonus as 'Passion' but uses much easier-to-find runes.

Please do this! Please!

@GoldenredDragon: I have not made all that many themed characters and my other best achievement (difficulty- and writing-wise), Mike the v1.09 Mojomancer and Isolde the Fire Rogue was eaten by the Great Forum Crash in 2003.

I pretty much play only tournament characters nowadays. I have so many at various stages of semi-retirement and in limbo (due to burnout, boredom, build ADHD, my love of the early game, new interesting tourneys, etc) that I could play them for years to come, just completeing my existing characters.
Do it!

Just read this, and it's pretty fantastic :)

Very nice rune luck in act 3 ;)

Too bad on not repairing your weapons! I suppose if you try again and need to use lots of javs/harps again, you can always run around picking up the javs to remind the game you want to keep them. Also, stash gold maximum from 1.13 may help a bit for the really long sessions you may need gold in.

You could always do normal on p8? ;)

Indeed. I have never seen anything close to it in that game version, and it was on players 1! It would have been great luck even in v1.13 on players 8.

I am thinking about it. There are many advantages but I will suffer grueling slow gameplay. I guess I'll start on it and see for how long I can stand it.

One thing I will do differently is to put only one point in Dodge. That NM Duriel fight taught me something.

So is this an official statement of starting then? That would cheer me tremendously :balloons:

Re: Wacky project: Gabrielle´s quest

This has been my bedtime reading for the past few nights. I didn't realize until now that the thread was started ten years ago. Pretty cool that someone dug this up and bumped it for old times' sake.

I would like to officially encourage bumping ancient threads. This was a ton of fun!

*Casts revive*

So I'm thinking of doing something similar, albeit with an assassin. I took a look at Passion today and noticed for the first time that it works in all weapons  And then I remembered you referencing your staff amazon from time to time, and I thought a staff assassin might be viable!

Do you have any tips/tricks (I realize that this thread began all the way back in 2004...) on increasing damage? While I'd like to rely on physical damage as much as possible, after reading through this thread a bit makes me think that might be foolhardy. Plus I don't want to do any respeccing, I think it's made me lazy with my builds. I was thinking, for the sake of not going crazy, this skill set-up

20 Fists of Fire (only for synergy, staff doesn't work with it!)
20 Phoenix Strike
20 Venom
10 BoS
10 Death Sentry
and 1 point in all the usual 1-point wonders.

The way I see it is I'd master Fists of Fire and Phoenix Strike first to get me through Norm and NM (getting to lvl 30 for PS will be an absolute bore), and then run a couple areas in early Hell Act 1 that don't have that many fire immunes until I find an elite 4os staff to make Passion. But do you think it's cheesy to rely on spell damage instead of my staff? I'm just worried I'll die like you did against NM ancients, if not sooner, if I don't use something like Lightning Sentry or Phoenix Strike. I'd like to use my staff's own power, but I'm just concerned it might not work, or take wayyyy too long. Though I suppose these days an Insight staff could carry me into Hell...

For getting to level 30 (if you don't want to rely on a merc), I think your prereq point in Tiger Strike (with staff) will be key. Once you can make a 3-socket IthIthIth staff (late Act II), you can release with plain Attack. Before that, Tiger Strike + Dragon Talon will work if you have decently sized boots (but harder if you limit yourself to the leather types, like Gabrielle did).

EDIT: Nightfish made Guardian with a staff Assassin, as part of his septuple septavirate. Not sure about the skills (I think it was TS + DTail). However, she was twinked, with Ribcracker as main tool.
