Tournament: Envious of the Green and Gold

GreenGoldieII has made it to Lut Gholein. Went through Act 1 on p7, but had little success with chipped topazes (5) and S/Us (0). Andy gave me complete garbage.

Selene got to the Arcane Sanctuary, cleared 2 wings and still haven't found the Summoner. I wanted to make an update when I finish Act II but I'll probably won't play her until next week so...

6 Sets in total and 0 Uniques so far. Cleglaw's Pincers, Arctic Binding (belt), Arctic Furs (armor) x2 equipped and Isenheart's Case and Cathan's Mesh are stashed. 1 green Jewel Of Freedom which might come in handy at some point.

Despite of what I said (again..) I finished Act II.

The Summoner dropped a set shield quite a useless one tho. I was thinking of skipping the false tombs as they're not really my favorite areas but I convinced myself not to as I'm doing full clears. And... another set shield in Kaa's false tomb. A very nice find so early in the game! Cleared the other false tombs, no interesting drops until the true tomb. A set ring dropped, that of course I thought it's Cathan's but it wasn't. Later in the true tomb I found 2 set items I already have, another Cleglaw's Pincers and another Cathan's Mesh. Duriel's drop was rubbish.

So far I've found at least 6 or 7 MF rings, a MF amulet, gambled a perfect 25MF gloves in Act I and had a 10fcr 10mana ring drop. Damn why do you drop in this tourney?! I've also found 3 (!) minimum roll small charms of life (5)...

I have about ~350k saved up atm and I'm gonna gamble them away on daggers, heavy gloves and boots before I start Act III. I hope I score something :)

Gambling daggers is not the most cost efficient thing to do as there is no set dagger but Gull is my favorite item in the game :)
Probably after Level ~24 it's best to gamble for heavy gloves as Sander's set gloves become available and so are Bloodfist, both a pretty nice set of gloves.

On topic:

Bruno has progressed up to the Inner Cloister WP. A few notable finds: Spineripper Poignard (massive ED and ITD, very cheap to repair despite its +1 necro skills), Sigon's boots (completing a 3-combo of shield, gloves, and boots), The Impaler War Spear, and Aldur's boots from The Smith. Spineripper is particularly nice since it allows for an 11fpa attack, which is more than double the attack speed with the Berserker's Axe. 90 MF (114 on merc kills) now.

Most problematic are lightning enchanted monsters, and there were a few nasty CE/LE bosses on the way.

Progress is pretty easy for Martina and Jelani and I feel no need to Jab with a two-hander. Killing is fast enough as it is, and safer.

It was quite dangerous once, when we were welcomed by this in Tower Cellar level 3. This was a devious combo, with a small army of monsters that blocked us in (some of them pretty hard hitters; I think there was a Berserker among them, too!) backed up with Blessed Aim so they hit us a lot. Plus the arrows that often chill, of course. I was grateful for two things here, that Jelani took most of the hits and that the archer pack had a tame second ability: Mana Burn. Jelani died soon after the screenie and I fled up the stairs. I told myself that this shouldn't be too bad, I just needed to be careful and take it over as many 'rounds' as I needed.

When we entered again, I cast a Decoy right away. I do not know if that was important, or if the Devilkin just happened to have moved away a bit, but a chance to run through that first room presented itself, and I took it. Jelani died again, and I bumped into another Devilkin pack (a regular 5-pack). TP out, resurrect and now we could hold that doorway with the help of Decoy, and defeat them.

On the next floor, the item that is both wanted and feared in these tourneys dropped: Milabrega's Orb. It's a crappy shield for fighting but greed makes us use it...My resists got lowered to 0-70-16 and blocking went from 60% to under 40%. I have moved Steelclash to the switch and stashed the Umbral Disk I had there. It's not a bad idea to have that switch with Steelclash and Skull Splitter as a 'survival' kit when I need resists and blocking. When I fight to regain control, the blinding, OW and better weapon range are not bad.

I later found a nice 29% Ruby Grand Charm. Other finds that I stashed are Iratha's Cuff, Ironstone unique War Hammer and Skin of the Flayed One unique Demonhide Armor.

Its time for more detailed report from Thors journey, i guess...Well, he finished Act 2 - partially at least - killed Duriel, but still four false tombs remaining, so he needs to clear them before moving forward...Act 2 was very interesting and fruitfull, speaking about battles and items, Thor and his friend desert Combat merc are now using 9 S/U items already, thats a big progress compared to Act 1...

There are some screens, as i've promised...Arctic furs from Corpsefire , Hands of broc from random bosspack in Black Marsh, Razortine from Champion in Far oasis (i love this item ;)), and Thors luck continued, namely in Maggot lair - Snakecord belt, then in AT dropped another very interesting and usefull item - Deathspade - very nice in Unreaveler infested areas for its Hit blinds target ability...Nothing worth mentioning in Palace and Arcane Sanctuary, but two false Talse tombs and one with Duriel filled many spots in Thors inventory...First was Angelic amulet, might be very usefull with other set pieces, and then, in the same false tomb this unique bow...I've realized its true value after some in depth analysis :), because it allowed Thor to be Holy shock ranger in very tough areas...Its fast and thats only important ability right now, and killing some dangerous monsters from great distance is exactly what Thor needs before getting FoH...His Lightning resist is low and others aren't high either...On the other side, this item dissapointed me alot..By by my MF dreams about armors...Personaly i consider this armor as most common and at the same time most useless S/U in the game...

Duriel dropped set ring and i really hoped, that it will be Angelics, but it wasn't...Nevertheless, it still might prove to be usefull in long run

Most common is probably correct, but I think that Stoutnail, Leadcrow, The Dragon Chang, Cathan's Rule and a few others are crappier. Isenhart's Case has at least credible Defense in the early game, and some combos in the set are not useless if your item pool is restricted. In the first Green with Envy tourney, my merc used the whole set in the endgame.

Sorry jian, but i have to disagree...Leadcrow is realtively fast and has DS, Stoutnail has at least some + vita :), Dragon chang some fire dmg + minimum dmg and 100% dmg vs undead, which might help too...And Cathans rule thanks to partial set bonuses (+ lots of mana, and res all), and with the fact, that other parts of the set are common and can be found early isn't bad item at all...I know, its more matter of personal opinion then anything else, but i will take all items You've listed over this stupid green Breastplate anytime:wink:

Edit: @kestegs: Basically, i don't like the fact, that HRs are now so common, i still remember good old days (from my point of view), when finding rune higher then VEX meant huge luck or hard work, basically, when runes had some value...I was selfound during my entire career, so trading is world outside my D2 experience, but i still found BER, 3 SURs, 3 LOs, OHM, etc, so i don't think it was necessary to change runedrops...On the other side, i can understand, that for players like jian or Insane wayne its great, because they have now some chance to make good RWs at least...Also, removing IM curse from the game wasnt good change either, i always considered it as a part of the challenge in some areas...But as i said, its just my personal opinion ;)

Decided to a paladin to enter my first ever tournament. Got through act 1 while finding 2 s/u, Lenymo (bloodraven) and Axe of Fechmar (the smith). My only other equipment consists of a cap w/ 2 chipped topaz and a ring mail w/ 3 chipped topaz. Right now the build is zeal/holy freeze, but that might change depending on what drops during the rest of normal/nm.

Found my first SU weapon: Axe of Felchmar. Decided to use it in preference to a shield with a scepter. The +3 to Freeze is absolutely golden (pun intended). Managed to finish off act 1. A champion pack of vampires actually posed more problems than Andy. Bloody things are resistant to all damage types it seems, or else they just have ridiculously high life. Andy just required a lot of potion guzzling. She nicely ignored my merc and concentrated on me. Found my second weapon at the start of A2: Serpent Lord unique staff. This promptly went on switch, useless thing that it is. Hoping against hope the next weapon that drops is a spear or polearm. Also found Arctic belt, so I have maxed cold resist, and 10 to everything else (from Infernal Cranium). Damage output isn't great. Qirana's main job is to freeze everything while the moron kills them. Will suck if I have to ditch the moron's weapon (plain Spetum).

20 physical, 50 cold. Champion The Banished have 183-252 life on Normal.

Will suck if I have to ditch the moron's weapon (plain Spetum).

Indeed. I feel your struggle if that happens. I was lucky enough to not get my third weapon until Duriel (I had mostly armor pieces drop early). Iron Wolves do pretty good damage without a weapon.
 
After some days of struggling through act3 and now act4, my small army has taken down Diablo! The fight took two whole armies to win, but continueous spamming of clay golem helped alot!

Dia dropped another Tarnhelm, this with 49% mf though! (My old had 37%)
And he also dropped Astreon Ward (which on a sidenote, Ive been looking after for quite a while on ladder) with pretty crappy stats.

Still, not only did it gave me 25% Target Slow, or 33%cb, but the result being that my Necro does more PHdmg then my merc... First time for everything.. Still weird! My merc must feel pretty bad about that fact! ;)

Next will be Frigid Highlands and Shenk for punching a hole in my Trang Armor! (Which will be filled with a Perf Topaz!)
That will give me 97mf!
