Ender's Mafia Game

Don't forget to read the dead thread, everyone, as everyone hates the town, mafia and SK in this game. I don't think I've seen an angrier dead thread.

Great game pharphis! Even though there was a couple of confusing elements for some people ... I think the setup was great.

Congrats to Val and Noodle.

On my own/mafia play:
I was thrown into the game at a not-to-convenient time but had tons of fun wifoming. Very, very suprised that I survived the first lynch (more on that in dead/mafia QTs), and on top of that I apparently killed CG before even entering the game - thanks for that one moar - so all in all, I felt pretty good.

Sadly though, town and mafia both played terribly regarding the SK. Mafia knew there was an SK but failed to get the lynch after gory directed at Val (of course they didn't at that time know he was SK) even though he was under a lot of heat, and town simply failed to realize there even was an SK, which was probably part of the extreme number of failed kills from both us and Val, and later gave him a complete free pass (looking at you jason) :badteeth:..

Well, all in all, I had tons of fun - I'm not going to link the mafia QT before the other guys show up and tell they don't mind, but after realizing jason's ability the thread went crazy with all sorts of BS. It's a great and somewhat confusing read.

IIRC there were only 3 nights with 2 kills. The first was Sath killing Solar (after Val failed to do so because of coju's save), The second was when Thyiad died (?) and the third was our final night. So, only the mafia knew for the LONGEST time.

However, I believe coju could have guessed earlier if he thought about his action on Solar. That would take assuming no bus driver and such, but it was an important insight that could have changed the game, I think.

Also, coju, expect Drixx to come in angry about you not even sending in a target the night he died! (much like me in the cheers game where I didn't know I could target the same person other than myself infinite times - yeesh).

Best Dead's Quicktopic's quote:

Second best:

Not quite sure if I should take revenge upon you, or upon Moar. Let me stew on that one a little bit.

Over all, I think the game was quite balanced. Only role I felt was too over the top was the Day-vig in the hands of the mafia.

Quickly on the subject of Eavesdropper - the moment you claimed, your ability was worthless. You should have realized that anything you received from that point on would be either fabricated to fool you or pointless spam. The fact that a few days were spent following bad leads (time zones, anyone?) was just silly. The fact that Valhauros was the one leading the charge with that information should have tipped you off that he was not on the level.

I actually did find the powers of mafia to be pretty well-balanced as well - including the vig. We were only 4 and had to recruit our vig (which means he could've used his power to accidentally kill one of us). Remember that town had both Jailkeeper, Doc, Cop and Eavesdropper. That's a lot of strong PRs.

and two of those were masons!

But mafia had godfather (meh) and politician (holy poop!)

Well played. I still wish Coju had saved me. What ultimately made my decision to do a full claim on the last day I was alive was the fact that any competent mafia member would have realized what my pressure on Jason meant about me so a full claim with some townie confirmations could potentially help the town and buy me another night with a handy doc save.

Unfortunately it didn't work out that way. Well played Val. I can't recall a game with a SK/Survivor both winning before so that's kind of neat also.

FoK, great epic post you made in a tough spot. That one will be remembered for awhile.

Thanks for hosting pharphis. Was a fun game, although a little disappointed by town (as well as myself). Was a very weird game to follow, but the dead QT provided some good laughs! :jig:

Congrats Val and Noodle! I found it strange people didn't pick up on you pushing the timezone case Val, but nevertheless well played.

Thanks for hosting pharphis.

Grats Val with yet another win as SK, using basically the exact same method (complain about how people vote for you because of your avatar then fake claim VT early with no pressure, then ask townies what they think you should do).

The game was pretty weird, for several reasons.

Eavesdropper - Totally overpowered role. Mafia unable to night talk effectively is brutal. Mafia have never won with that role in the game. Just sayin. It's impossible to say what the "who is the SK/is there a SK?" conversation might have turned up if we had an actual conversation but I wish we could have one.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many prevented night kills. So many that mafia were no longer the informed minority. Night 4 was when the unaccounted for extra kill was repeated (but that wasn't learned until Pyro claimed - could have been the result of a bus driver mentioned by a couple non-mafia). N7 is when town first had a clue about the SK. A night kill was prevented the first 6 nights of the game! That completely changes the dynamic of the game.

A doc. A jailkeeper. Two 1x bulletproof roles. A bomb. The chance of a "good" night kill on N1 isn't much more than 70%. That's too low. Far too low for a 22 player game. If the chance of a prevented NK is much more than 1/N where N is the number of players left in the game, mafia have a real hard shot at winning.

Mass claim time was fun. Mafia had 2 fake claims for 4 players (and one was a treestump...). Two gave their actual mafia names. More effects of the eavesdropper and prevented night kills.

Mafia were able to elude lynch in 6 out of 8 days and somehow still lost. Town succeeded in 2 out of 8 lynches and somehow were mathematically in the game until the last day. Go go third parties. SK took out more mafia than the town did. VI's not playing to their win condition... VI's are supposed to help the mafia win con, not the town one. Survivor did the same. That 1x cop ability was used in a pro-town manner rather than a neutral manner (or tried to).

Bulletproof SK. Turns out the bulletproof wasn't needed but if it became relevant, it would have won the game for the town. Either way, mafia were out of it. I mentioned this in the dead QT but I'll say it again here: Bulletproof SK seemed out of place with an eavesdropper in the game. Or the other way around. The eavesdropper can't detect the SK which makes the SK part godfather as well.

This game would have been PERFECT for a mafia doc. Mafia roleblocker would also be good. Given the win rate of SKs in our games, maybe we should start giving mafia protection from the SK rather than the other way around.

I think I said this in the dead thread, but I was so frustrated with this game that I can no longer be frustrated, I no longer care that the town lost.

Also on that note, I want to know exactly how many saves I made, and I would really like an award for my actions.

*Gieb award, you know you want to*

I am fine with posting mafia thread as long as others are. Fun game, although I got a suprise move in the middle of it which made it harder. We were doing so well until SK butted in and killed us all.

Congrats to the winners! Thanks for hosting phar, it was great!

No wonder I never had a ****ing clue what was going on! Every kill I thought was Mafia was actually the SK. I didn't even believe there was a SK because I couldn't envisage one only using their kill a couple of times. Congrats you sneaky bastards Val and Noodle. :badteeth:

I thought there was a strong likelihood I was being fed BS by the Mafia once Pyro was gone, but there wasn't much I could do with that knowledge, so I never voiced it. I think, all things considered, I failed pretty spectacularly for my return to Mafia, yet somehow survived until the last day (which I've never done in my entire Mafia career before, that I can recall).

Thanks to phar for hosting.

Congrats to Val and Noodle. Although Val should have been killed; I had a GOOD idea fellow mafia! :p

Apologies to Jason for feeding you the timezone stuff. I hoped it would keep me alive long enough to help my team. :)

I don't mind the mafia QT being posted. Pretty sure everyone will be thrilled by it's contents. Especially the Wiki entry. :D

Congrats to Val, and thanks to Pharphis for hosting. I did not expect to make it to the end.

I had a one-time night investigation power, which I used to confirm flubbucket was town. The rest of the time I was largely in the dark, and was primarily concerned with not presenting myself as a serious threat to either side.

One game. I take one freaking game off and you guys let Val win as sk again -.-

But really, gratz to Val and Noodle for the win!

Yup. I do love the irony of an article on communication used as spam/filler.

I think this makes for one of the more interesting games with nuetrals - both VI and Survivor had a twist.

Well, ****. If you check the mafia thread I thought I may have mentioned the possibility of a bus driver, albeit unlikely. Val was my second choice for kill, I thought Jason was the safer option just in case there was a bus driver.

Damn. I made the wrong choice. If I targeted Val, what would have happened? We both die? Or whoever sent their action in first?

This ending is hugely unsatisfying. There was many instances in which I could and should have played much better. Val should have died much earlier, and I shouldn't have focused on Noodle so much.

Just, ugh.

I plan focusing on school for the remainder of the year, so I'm probably going on vacation from the forums. Mafia is way too much work and it gets in the way of my schooling. I'll definitely be up for any games during the summer though.

Congrats Val and Noodle on your win. Great play.
