Player's Choice Mafia Sign-Ups
Howdy folks. I'm stealing some initiative and starting up the next mafia game. Everyone is welcome to join, from new players to veterans alike!
However, I have a small twist. I'm letting the players decide what type of game they want to play. You have two options!
Option 1) A mostly standard, vanilla game, with a flavour of a zombie apocalypse. Unlike my first game, this will be vanilla, and will likely feature no non-standard, made-up roles. I still promise it to be fun!
Option 2) A 'Wine-In-Front-Of-All' game, also known as "WIFOA", with a geographical flavour associated to it. This game will in no way, shape, or form be guaranteed to be balanced, is somewhat complicated, and causes all kinds of mass confusion as roles are not necessarily tied to alignment. It is, however, a load of fun. If you're the kind of person who liked the concept behind Ash's "All Bus Driver" game, then this will likely appeal to you.
In a nutshell, I would give a list of 20ish roles that can be in the game. Everyone is given their alignment, but no role. By using a lottery system, a bidding order is created, and going down the list people may secretly pick whatever role they want. However, if you pick a role that's already been chosen, then you become a vanilla instead.
This introduces a HUGE amount of WIFOM into the game, as players have options to take roles that are powerful, or steal roles from their opponents (e.g. mafia taking the cop), or some players taking roles that are less powerful because they know they might be targeted sooner. I will admit though that it can be complicated at first glance, so if people aren't comfortable with that, then there's always option #1 (which is still going to be a great game, trust me). If people want to play this game though, I will do my best to explain everything thoroughly and completely.
