Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

I admit that my play style in the first days was way off, but I blame it on RL. Sure, I should have been lynched, but it would have been so cool to rub it in your face, Sathoris.
Speaking of which, do I get an achievement for evading two lynches in a row in the same game? :)

Regarding the accelerating voting mechanic, I believe it to be useless and to cause more confusion. But those are just my two cents as some would say.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

The accelerated start mechanic is something I still think has no value. However, I don't generally like things in a game that force people to do things they haven't chosen to do, so that's perhaps just my bias.

The game itself was awesome and I had a lot of fun with it. The balancing, considering the number of powers available, was remarkably good.

The TC claim debacle - this was high-comedy :) So bad, TC could not possibly be faking it, but then the WIFOM ... (RL can seriously mess with your mafia mojo, it's true)

The "Mad Scientist" role - genius. It kept the Town alive after the modkills struck, and then it really placed the final result in the balance. Excellent and for me, quite unexpected.

9.5 out of 10.

Here’s the City Slicker Role PM, followed by Valhauros’s claim. Should I have allowed his claim to stand without a mod-kill?
I guess I would have done the same thing, in theory. While writing, I pasted the entire content of the message, resumed it in a line and left it there until I had finished the rest, but due to that post of mine being so long and elaborated, with so many references and links to check, I realized I had forgotten to change the claim after I posted the entry. Since editing is not allowed, all I could do is hope you wouldn't notice (and I wonder, if Goryani hadn't pointed it out, Would I still be alive?). Anyway, I do have a gripe regarding the rule:

Do not post any information sent to you in a pm. This includes, but is not limited to, numbers of words/letters/punctuation marks. If you want to claim a role, don't copy paste the PM I sent you.
Here the first sentence contradicts the second one. Hosts have to reach an agreement regarding claiming, because while here states you shouldn't even think of the PM while posting, several wrote they were City Slickers too, but they were fine. Either keep the rule as it is and stick to it like you should, or modify its content so that it clearly states what can be done; if the rule would have been strictly followed, half of the players should have been mod-killed, or I shouldn't have, because technically I didn't include the entire PM.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

I sympathise with you, Valhauros, as I was one of those who used the wording of my PM in a post.

I simply didn't think it through before I posted. This is embarrassing for me, as I hate the use of role PMs to establish roles during a game, I think it is cheesy. /hypocracy
In my defence, I was annoyed that the role PM City Slickers received was for "The City Clicker", implying that there was only one in the game - I was thrown when there turned out to be several unique "The City Slickers"! /lame defence

I was lucky to be only warned and not modkilled, for my infraction. I would have accepted a modkill.

If I ever host a game, I will consider giving all roles the wording that I give to plain townies. Those with additional abilities will also get their own specific instructions as well. This may be seen as giving the mafia an unfair advantage, but that is nothing compared to the advantage the Town gets by being able to identify roles simply based on the wording of role PMs - which is not cool.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Congrats to the town. I only wished Krazey got lynched a day earlier, things may have ended differently.

Krazey, after the mafia died we were all convinced you had it easy street and would have won the game. Cal had that full proof aliby though on night 2 with me targeting TC, and I think that sealed it for you.

My first time playing as mafia, and I had fun being evil! sorry for the deception all. Ankeli, you were a darn thorn in my side! I should have killed you off sooner.

here's the QT for the mafia, you all have fun reading about how sneaky we were!

Hey, when I smell mafia, I mean business. ;)

Depends if Ankeli has the time to host his Star Wars. Last time nurman said he was fine with waiting until more people had hosted. Trionth, I haven't seen around much. So it could be you. The List.

I won't have the time. My summer holiday off work starts in a week, and I'm going to be touring music festivals back and forth for the next month.

Uraj, Thank You for a nice game. The roles were rather balanced, which surprises me given the amount of active or pro-active abilites in them. Congrats on making it work!

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

yay town!! congrats to us! how long has it been since a townie victory AND all the mafia were dead? idr...

thanks, Uraj, for a good game! sadly, i stopped reading it about a week ago because of RL and work. but i tried to keep up with the Dead QT and Mara kinda kept me up to date to it so it was all good. :)

if there is another game in the Community, i'm going to have to step out of it. The SPF game has me a bit busy and i think i will be too irritated or busy to participate in a Community game. sorry. :(

congrats again, y'all!

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Great game - damn you Bad Ash I had that in the bag but you decided to come clean and give the town most of the mafia info too - plus no one spotted the odd and even day kits/kidnaps - if I had the chance to change it I would have kidnapped you and let asrrin live. If only would have died quietly! :)

Nice job Uraj - and I got Leo back .... again! lol

great game uraj! really fun one.

IDK if I could have been kidnapped? Cause I was NK immune, but it was a kidnapping, so IDK.

As always, I carry no ill-will from game to game as I am a little too intense sometimes haha. Helluva game Cal, that was impressive. I honestly did think you were the SK and when I found out it was KI I thought 100% sure that he was going to win the game or go into a stalemate.

only reason I wish KI had won was so I could say you shoulda teamed up with me! haha, but you didnt have to and you guys did a good job.

Can not believe I didnt get lynched for my Feysal role claim mix-up :-D

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Heh, this was a very interesting game to follow from the sidelines (rather unusual since I tend to get bored very quickly when I'm not taking part). Totally dug your 'all cards on the table' move, Ash - t'was very well executed, shame it didn't work ;).

Also, impressive job on balance Uraj, rare to see a game with so many PR done so well, kudos.

"The most unlikely escape from a lynch after a botched role claim" award.

Here the first sentence contradicts the second one. The only part that was at fault, was the entire sentence with quotes around it, the role name: City Slicker and alignment parts were fine. The rest of the PM should be explained in your own words. I agree the wording in the rules could be clearer on exactly what you can and cannot do. It's best to PM the moderator before you do something if you're unsure its allowed.

IDK if I could have been kidnapped? Cause I was NK immune, but it was a kidnapping, so IDK.

It was possible for you to be kidnapped. Bulletproof would have stopped the Vig, a busdriver bullet from a switch or the Bodyguard.

Huh? The game is over? I've been totally disconnected with what was going on... Stopped reading new posts three weeks ago, focused on games I was still alive in.

And town won? So miracles do happen. When this bunch lynched the cop instead of obvscum TC, I gave up hope.

About the only things you missed were the newbies CoolguyBad and Caluin Graye being vastly underestimated by the Mafia.

And the entire Mafia team accidentally "busing" Noodle their traitor with Bad Ash locking the vote.

Not sure what the deal with Saturday's are. Some games (Saw) see a flurry of activity on Saturday while others are a graveyard. Might be a fall/winter vs spring/summer kind of thing.

Yes, winter/summer might be the cause of the change in activity levels.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed the game.

Agreed! I actually consider you to be a friendly rival now, as you made one hell of a case against me. I still can't believe I managed to dig myself out of that hole you managed to put me in.

Ivan, well played as well. I still wasn't sure it was you, even at the end.

Re: Ravenwood Retreat Mafia Game.

Right, meant to reply to this one:

As I said in thoughts section, I'm curious what you thought of the accelerated start mechanic in this game. Did it help much, if any, in your opinion?

I don't think it worked as well as I'd hoped. It probably works better on mafiascum.net, since they have a tradition of starting with random votes, and an accelerated start simply helps in bypassing that phase in a game. With us, it doesn't seem to work that way. Some folks got confused by it, and no random wagons emerged from it. I'm not sure if I'm going to give it another try next time I host.
